Subaru to launch four new cars, RWD sports car coming Q2 2012

Subaru will release three all-new models and its first hybrid vehicle over the next five years in its attempt to reach one million global sales before 2022.

Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the manufacturer of Subaru vehicles, revealed its ‘Motion-V’ mid-term strategy overnight, which lays out its plans from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2016.

FHI says it is determined to grow its base of Subaru fans and customers by offering them the “core values of enjoyment and peace of mind”.

One of the new models launched under the strategy will be the rear-wheel drive sports car co-developed with Toyota, which will go on sale in the second quarter of 2012.

The Subaru XV concept, which is currently on display at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne, may also be transformed into a production model.

Reports suggest the hybrid could be based on the Subaru Hybrid Tourer concept, which was revealed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

Three of Subaru’s key focuses over the next five years will be enhancing driving performance, improving safety technology and creating environmentally friendly solutions.

Subaru plans to become ‘the world’s leading brand in safety performance’ by making significant advancements in active and passive systems, and pre-crash safety features like EyeSight and Active Driving Assist with stereo cameras.

On the environmental front, Subaru plans to improve average fuel economy across its fleet by 30 per cent by 2016.

FHI says it will focus on the US and Chinese markets in its aim to increase global sales by 40 per cent, and predicts overall cost reductions as it strengthens its production capacity and dives further into it alliance with Toyota Motor Corp.
