Renault Frendzy electric concept unveiled

The Renault Frendzy concept is the latest creation from the French manufacturer in its ‘human life cycle’ design range.

The Frendzy is a “multi-faceted friend” designed to take the strain out of life, which Renault says has become such an intricate interweaving of the professional and the personal.

The passenger side is all about work. The rear door slides for convenience in tight spaces and incorporates a 37-inch window screen that can display advertising or branding messages.

The driver’s side is focused on family, with a wide opening, rear-hinged rear door and a proper transparent window.

The rear bench seat rises up from the floor and the front seat folds back from the dash. Kids in the back can watch films or play games on a touchpad that slides out from the driver’s seat, and can draw on a special slate integrated into the sliding door display.

Renault says the extensive use of wood inside the cabin is designed to echo “the simple yet practical world of camping”.

Back in work mode, the fabric roof is flexible and adapts to the shape of bulky objects, while the floor utilises magnetic fixings to secure loads. Sensors located along every doorsill log the loading and unloading of RFID-equipped (Radio Frequency Identification) packages, giving the driver real-time inventory information.

The Frendzy is powered by the electric system from the Kangoo Z.E. and its charge point is positioned beneath the front Renault badge like the ZOE preview vehicle.

The Renault Frendzy will make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
