i wonder if alice cooper will get a free one to match his face

    FPV……………Meh

  2. jbot says:

The F6 ute looks very boring from the back. At least the Pursuit and Super Pursuit tell people what’s infront of them. A big Typhoon in the same style as the Pursuit wouldv’e looked the goods.

  3. Tony M says:

These cars have attitude in the way they appear. They look like wolves in sheep’s clothing when you compare their appearances with the HSV product.
If the FPV product proves to be “faster, more drivable and more economical” than the HSV product then I think Holden has a problem.

  4. jbot says:

The V8s aren’t more economical than the HSVs. Maybe the F6, but not the V8s.

  5. Ford G Series says:

Get over the your so called “make up” comments, cause for one, people driving HSV are only going te see the rear end 99% of the time anyway, The FPV range has a unique style not so boring or tasteless like HSV…

  6. John says:

I think the whole ford vs holden thing is ridiculous. But everytime I see one of these new Falcons, I’m stunned.

I agree, the new Commodores are tasteless, they’re nothing new or exciting. In a way, I think Ford are more mature, as a business. They’re the quiet type, who suddenly throw out some grenades to wake everyone up.

    Holden just…fail.

  7. trackdaze says:

    People

Can we get past the looks. On This car and all others. Styling is the great automotive con.

The real important stuff is underneath. Aluminium Virtual pivot front suspension, front mounted steering rack. Increased track, wheelbase, revised 6speed auto/manual. the v8 making peak power at 6-5 & Stability control a first for FPV (should be good) to name but a few.

Don’t tell me you lot all use hair gel?

  8. Tony M says:

Trackdaze Says: I agree, but don’t tell me you didn’t check out how good your partner looked first before checking what was under the bonnet etc.

  9. trackdaze says:

Tony M, very lucky in that regard but it’s the ride and handling that’s kept me happy.

  10. Minnow says:

This is freaking awesome, this is Australia’s new ICBM, oh yeah!

Holden’s response is chucking a 6.2L v8 into its HSV… pathetic. ” *apprentice* Uhhh, boss fords engineered a more powerful 6cyl. *Boss* well my apprentice grab that old chev block and bore it out” dumb stupid holden, its gonna be the only car that will exceed 20L/100ks in fuel consumption.

  11. Richo says:

minnow, your a tool, the new 6.2ltr V8 actually uses LESS fuel then the 6.0l V8 it is replacing, and is more economical then the V8 falcons to boot. Do your research so you don’t look like a giant nob next time you comment

  12. Richo says:

John, ford and holden.. one produces a car that has been the number one seller in Australia for over 10 years in a row now, the other company produced an $87.2m loss last financial year. So clearly, the latter is the one that…fails

Oh, by the way, it was ford who posted the loss and it’s holden who makes the most popular car, just so your ontop of everything!

  13. Tony M says:

Richo: I didn’t write this just read Drive in the Age,
“So let’s take a look at how the 6.2-litre HSV cars compare to the rest of the world for fuel efficiency.

The 4.0-litre V8 in the BMW M3 puts out 309kW and is quicker to 100kmh than the ClubSport, but uses just 12.4L/100km. To put that in perspective, the ClubSport uses 23 per cent more fuel to make less than 3 per cent more power – and it’s slower.

The Mercedes-Benz C63 has the same size engine as the HSV but puts out 336kW and uses just 13.5L/100km.

Meanwhile, the Lexus LS600h engine produces 327kW and uses just 9.3L/100km. Yes, all these engines belong to cars that cost at least twice as much as the ClubSport but if you think I’m being unfair comparing Holden with the world’s latest and greatest engines, let’s look closer to home.

Ford’s 4.0-litre XR6 turbo engine puts out 270kW of power and uses 11.7L/100km. That means the ClubSport uses 30 per cent more fuel for 17 per cent more power. And by Drive’s stopwatch, the turbo Falcon is quicker.”

You must be a young fellow because in the 70’s – 80’s Holden was making loss after loss and if it wastn’t for GM in the States bailing them out we might not have a VE Commodore. Live long enough and you will realise that “what goes around comes around”.

  14. ChopstaR87 says:

havent Holden had losses the loss couple of years as they were paying for the new commodore as Ford is now doing???

  15. Richo says:

Tony M – you, or Drive, are comparing a mass produced engine that is reasonably cheap to make to two hand made and excessively expensive engines in the BMW and Merceedes power plants, fairly unfair comparison. Then they compare it to a hybrid drivetrain! Again fairly unrealistic and unfair comparison.

Also no one is denying that holden used to struggle quite badly in a financial sense, but we aren’t talking about the past we are talking about now and right NOW holden is a very strong and financially viable company, Ford Australia on the other hand are struggling ALOT. Thats fact, no matter how you try and look at the mirror

  16. Richo says:

Chopsta – no holden has been profitable for a number of years now

  17. matster says:

I would like an F6 in white with the black wheels thanks. The only 2 things I absolutely despise on the F6 are:

    1. The ridiculous power badge (310) which Ford/HSV like too do. Could you imagine Audi putting a 426 badge on their new RS6. Pathetic!

    2. The naff steering wheel. That thing is dog ugly. Just like the one in the commodores. Why did they go too the trouble of getting rid of the ford badges and keep it on this piece of garbage? Also the silver buttons hanging off the sides of the wheel are a shocker IMO!

  18. Starky says:

Hehe, Richo says Ford are struggling – hmm, who’s been making the bigger losses over the last couple of years? Who is now under threat to be built in the States more?

  19. matster says:

Who cares about whether ford or holden is struggling more? Ford and Holden are both F*cked. They can both fight over the crumbs left over by the Numero Uno (which they are) Toyota. I would like an F6 because it has a Euro look, goes like stink, for the performance is not shocking on the fuel and toyota does not have anything on offer in my price range!

  20. matster says:

that meets the criteria I said previous!

  21. Dj says:

It appears ford have taken to more of the euro look, with a bigger emphasis on engineering whats under the skin.

PS-Holden have had bigger fianacial losses in the last couple of years.
    2006-146 mil loss
    2005-144 mil loss

  22. John says:

Richo, firstly, don’t treat me like an idiot, because I’m not, secondly, SO? Money doesn’t matter. To make a car that is perfect, in every sense, takes PASSION. Holden has NO passion. At least FPV’s are BUILT as sports cars, not just throwing a hunky motor into a taxi and whopping up the price tag.

  23. Bret says:

Richo: “holden has been profitable for a number of years now”

    Holden:
    2006 – $146 million loss
    2005 – $144 million loss
    2004 – $300.8 million profit
    2003 – $285.6 million profit
    2002 – 256.5 million profit

    Care to comment?

All I know is that these things are cyclic and For Aus is in a strong financial position overall.

  24. XR_2 Capri says:

VH commodore was going to be the last holden then GM US came over with cash to bail them out.

I am hoping that with the V6 going into the falcon that it might be a way the change the configeration behind the fire wall to make a LHD falcon, just a wish. Fords version of the billion dollar baby

I think now that I would buy a second hand F6 and take it to a turbo expert take it to about 350kw but up the touque to about 700nm now that would be a cheap performance car

  25. Duck says:

With the new V6 coming in the falcon in 2010, does that mean there will be a large drop in torque power in the falcon?

  26. XR_2 Capri says:

I would hope that ford would at least equal what they have now!
Does anyone know the power output now for the V6?

  27. Duck says:

    Power and torque^!

  28. XR_2 Capri says:

    3lt v6 164kw torque??????? I will keep searching

  29. Bucket (Formerly Known as Chris) says:

    Richo,

It’s actually the Toyota Corolla which is the most popular Car in Australia.
Commodore isn’t Australia’s Favourite Car. Not by a mile.
Holden have nothing to back up their claim appart from figures which are jacked up by fleet sales of Omega.
Holden are still holding onto that “Australia’s favourite car” line to evoke emotional feelings of attachment and ownership of a GM globalised car.
Are you on that gullible bandwagon too?

  30. XR_2 Capri says:

    duck
    3.5lt V6 197kw

  31. XR_2 Capri says:

    taurus
    FWD
    3.5lt V6 197kw @6250rpm torque 337NM @4500

  32. TP says:

Bucket 100% correct. The Corolla is #1 among private buyers (ie Australias fav car), the Commodore is that bad once you take away its 80% fleet sales it doesnt even feature in the top 5.

  33. PoisonEagle says:

On ya TP. WTF does the hopelessly boring Corolla have to do with FPV???
Oh to hell with it- no point delaying the inevitable.
Falcon V6 will need direct injection end of story; Maybe then it will come close to the 4.0 in terms of torque. Direct Acting Mechanical Buckets seem to be the engine’s trump card too.
Can anybody explain why direct injection is more expensive to implement? What so expensive about putting the injectors in a different position?
And as a concession to staying on topic; when do roadtests of these monsters begin?

  34. matster says:

TP What does the Worlds Best selling car ever (more than the beetle) 34 million to date have to do with FPV? Get with the program. This topic is about cars that don’t sell. Get it!

  35. XR_2 Capri says:

    mustang motor RWD
    4.0 V6 157kw @ 5300 rpm
    325NM @ 3500 rpm

about AU petrol or BF gas

  36. Eyma Teapot says:

I am neither a holden or ford man but can clearly see and read all the facts above. FVP vs HSV, Ford wins hands down on both style and performace.
Ford also has a far stronger product range ie. Feista,Focus. Holden are digging their own grave with a
    cheap and nasty Daewoo range.
Go TP you excitment machine with your radically awesome Corolla. I can just picture you now all jazzed up in your latest cream cordoroy jacket with your hair greased back with brill cream on your way to square dancing lessons.
Wow. Who needs a ford gt when i have my snowflake white fully sic corolla sportivo man.

  37. Oz. says:

I’m looking at the pics of the blue GTP and they are HOOOOTTTT!!!!!

  38. trackdaze says:

Not again TP, the corolla is number one for fleets, rentals etc the overwhelming majority of corolla’s private buyers are 45+ rather largish women. outside of that demographic I can only think the private buyer might be “lured” by corolla’s phallically suggestive centre console and gearstick placement TP,does this mean that corolla drivers literaly have their hand on it?

Mazda is top of the pops for the well informed user chooser car purchaser.

Back to the FPV’s. I’m liking the rear mounted brake calipers. Do we know whether the manual 6 will have launch control?

  39. Richo says:

Ok, i’ll admit i am wrong with the profits/losses, BUT atleast i am willing to admit that i am a holden fan, rather then running around saying “oh i am neither ford or holden, but ford are WAAAAAAAAY better then holdens!! like way way way way WAY better, but seriously i’m not a ford fan!”

    wankers

  40. Westy says:

Been checking back here all day but still don’t see any updates as the article first stated. Where are all the impressions etc guys ?? Been hanging out since reading this first thing this morning but nothing has come through. Deflated…….

  41. No Name says:

Eeeeek I’m a wanker according to Richo. See yah I’ve got a date with Palmerla and her 5 lovely daughters.

Really not sure on the panda alice copoper eyes though. Nah G6 for me.

  42. Roudy says:

They all looks stupid, They don’t look any good,

And then as i was moving down the GTE comes to my attention, This is the pick on looks alone it towers over the rest easy.
I really like the look it’s so much in tune with the way i like cars.

Anyone notice the large gap between the door trim and dash?.
Actually the closer you get in with pics the high res ones you see the command centre is surrounded by the same plastics in my Calais?. Look closely.

  43. trackdaze says:

aparently the DSC when turned off it has a panic mode if you jab the brakes.

  44. PoisonEagle says:

LOL @ Trackdaze and the Corolla’s handbrake phallic symbol. It stimulates TP yes it does. It offers him tailpipe action in return for desperately endorsing Toyota at every chance. oh OH OHHHH! what a feeling!

  45. Jetski says:

I think FPV have done a descent job in upgrades, why bag out a product when none of these wanks have test driven one..
Until then keep your gobs shut…

  46. Richo says:

Jetski – equally wouldn’t you think that stating that it is “sooo much better then a HSV! oh but i’m not a ford fan!!!!!” is an equally stupid comment considering most of these clowns haven’t driven either car?

  47. Bavarian Missile says:

hey Roudy………wouldn’t talk too loud we hired a VE Statesman for the last 6 days and my 14 year old picked the bag out of it compared to the last BF……like those stupid tacky pull out pockets and the gap in the fan surround the rear vent system,50/50 I think.

  48. John says:

I know Richo is referring to me, and trying to get people on his side, but no. Just..no.

I wouldn’t buy either, because they’re both wastes of money, but as I said, Ford have definately put in more effort. Have you driven the new HSV and the new FPV, Richo? No? Hm. Funny that.

Am I not allowed to like neither, but respect one? Oh, I forgot, that you Holden drivers, for some reason or another, think you know everything, and drive the best cars in the world. No, you dont. Not by far.

And. AHAHAHAH! Serves you for skiving off with facts, trying to make yourself seem smart, and getting. them. completely. wrong.

    =]

  49. Prim says:

    Sweet…
These Cars look awesome esepcially that dark blue GT-P, it really looks the part – mean and aggressive, imagine that in your revision mirror. Although that looks the part the F6 is deffinetley in a class of it own and should put FPV in a very good position with the recent power wars with HSV. A pitty they couldn’t get times, would have been great to see the times on the F6, I am hoping low 12’s for 1/4 mile.

    Cheers
    Prim

  50. davidt says:
