Jaguar set to take on the Germans

At the recent Goodwood festival of speed, Tata president Carl-Peter Forster, spoke of his experience overseeing Jaguar and Land Rover's operations.

Mr Peter said Tata was extremely pleased with the two British brand's progress in the last few years. Stating that "for once we have an opportunity to develop both brands to a point they've never been".

Jaguar Land Rover is set to double its annual investment in new product and pour all cash generated back in to the business. This will result in a significantly wider product range and new powertrains. It also means the company will have the opportunity to do what many thought it couldn't, such as putting the Jaguar C-X75 super car into production.

Mr Forster is determined to keep Jaguar's core heritage of creating cars that are "technologically advanced but with a lot of charisma". Tata has envisioned Jaguar Land Rover to become the fourth premium OEM. Nonetheless he believes that the sister companies "want to be different (from the Germans)" and can afford to be different without having to chase volume.

When quizzed about sustainable motoring, he said "ultimately we sell to people who buy a lot of emotions - we have to deliver emotion."

With cars like the C-X75, which make use of high powered electric motors as well as a high powered internal combustion engine, times are changing at Jaguar. The company wants to create efficient powertrains which still deliver emotion with the likes of the C-X75 being just the tip of the iceberg.

Mr Forster hinted that Jaguar is set to create more cars with hybrid powertrains. We suspect that a smaller sports car to sit below the XK and a smaller model to complement the XF are in the works.

The British company was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type with a 28 meter high statue of the original model enacted near Goodwood house.
