2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK at Australian International Motor Show 2011
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne. This is the first time the Australian public has had a chance to get a glimpse of the new model.
This is the SLK's third generation now and it comes with an all-new design in tune with the latest Mercedes-Benz design philosophy. The new convertible also comes with a fresh interior layout, including a number of unique features such as MAGIC SKY CONTROL, as well as a new range of four- and six-cylinder engines.
Kicking off the model range will be the Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY and SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY, both using a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine producing 135kW and 150kW. All models are now fitted with the new 7G TRONIC seven-speed transmission. The SLK 200 is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.0 seconds, while offering an average fuel consumption rating of 6.9L/100km.
Completing the range will be the SLK 350. This model gets the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine producing 225kW of power and is able to sprint from 0-100km in 5.6 seconds. With help from a new multi-spark ignition system and piezo injectors, the V6 model offers an average fuel consumption rating of 8.3L/100km.
Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars, recently spoke about the new model, saying,
"The new SLK embodies the role of the trend-setter like no other car. I am convinced that with its passionate design, its highquality interior and its modesty at the filling station it will continue to provide an enormous amount of fun on the road in future, too, consolidating its status as a cult roadster.”
The new 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK will go on sale in August. Prices start at $82,900 for the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY, and $118,900 for the SLK 350. The SLK 250 will go on sale early next year, prices are yet to be finalised.
