HSV R8 ‘Tourer’ unveiled
May 12, 2008 by George Skentzos
HSV has announced the arrival of a new addition to its performance garage with the new HSV R8 ‘Tourer’, set to be released this October.
Official pricing and final specifications will be confirmed closer to the sale date, however HSV has said it will feature equipment levels similar to the ClubSport R8.
The Tourer will also feature the new 317kW LS3 V8 engine, which is now standard across the HSV fleet.
HSV has so far only released one official image, with the aggressive rear-end treatment yet to be unveiled.
Although HSV has not yet revealed specific plans, there is also the possibility the Tourer could join its sedan cousins in overseas markets under the Chevrolet and Pontiac namesakes.

Boring.
Where the innovation?
It’s a fair bit better then any wagon ford currently offers, Phil
Inevitable I guess. However I do like the Sportwagon. Definitely Waaaay ahead of Fords real living-in-the-past cart sprung Falcon Waaaaagon
Hopefully they dont use the same tailight set up as on the maloo ute…
Amen to that!
Another petrol guzzling (Adventurer), will not do as well as people might think… Holden went down this path before and look what happened… good try, but no cigar here…
Have a close look at that photo. A REALLY close look.
What a dodgy photoshop!!!!
I’m guessing it’s gauging reaction from the public if they can’t even be bothered fitting a bumper to a real sportwagon. That’s not a photo of a car, it’s a VE Sportwagon with a bumper/wheels.badges shopped on from a car that has been photographed outside… bumper reflection anyone?
Cheap and nasty.
Spot on Bob – However if its only a mtter of changing a few bodypanels creating a full blown model now for October would be a bit premature.
That looks pretty damned good, as long as it doesn’t cost $180000.
Might be a good thing, but in that photo it just looks like a sinderblock with a silly front end. Has none of the elegance of standard wagon (especially Calais).
Just who is going to fork out $160K for a holden????
Not I!!!!!!
Answer ScottT;
1. Someone rich
2. Doesnt mind paying huge increase in tax threshold
3. Deep pockets of money to put petrol into willy nilly
4. Someone not worried about average, ugly and not worried that Holden have so many Commodore variants….yet all carry same headlight shape and same grille shape that is looking overkill as on “all” Commodore variants. To me this should be changed period….as when driver of say R8 tourere would drive past base model Commodore there is still a massive tie with base models (as with all there models)
ScottT, you are never going to fork out $160,000 for ANYTHING.
Even if a house only cost that, you will never be able to afford it.
Very sleek an Euro.
And you know this how?????

Oh, and who ever said it was a photoshop, I believe it’s a total CGI image, not a photoshop. In the high resolution version, you can clearly see it.
Do some of you really think this will be sold for 160 grand? Slap! Slap! It’s an R8! We’re talking $60,000, to the nearest ten thou, not $160,000.
I reckon they give it this name, HSV BBM – Bogan Breeder Mover. HSV – I just want more rednecks.
I hope someone doesn’t think its going to be $160000 Golfschwein.
I will seriously look at this car. I want a HSV badly, but this will be perfect for kids.
And $160k. Crap. I received a letter in the mail the other day from HSV lsiting the final rrp for the W427. $149K. This thing thing will be a cost between an R8 an a GTS
Actually, further, you guys are comparing it to an Adventra. Please. I owned one of them and yes, it was terrible. But are so are most cars that way well over 2t and have a really bad AWD system. The Sportswagon won’t be as heavy and won’t have constant AWD system sucking the life out of it. This thing will go well and will suit most Aussie lovers of V8’s. It lets dad have a HSV but becomes practical with the kids. Tell Audi that their RS4 and RS6 wagons are a bad idea. I think you’ll find they still like a drink. Maybe the HSV sportswagon will come with the engine similar to the 300C – deactivating 4 cyclinders. I was once told that when you buy a V8, you know it’s going to love a drink so you accept it.
this is to hit back at FPV F6X 270 thats all….
Very Nice! Hey Bret you were right! And Andrew M i have seen the picture now, so i can COMMENT it looks great!
They said SUV’s killed the wagon market (Falcon/ Territory). With fuel prices the way they are, SUVS are taking a bit of a hit, so Holden thought they would re-introduce the wagon…No different than Kia marketing its new people mover (the Rondo) as having SUV-like attributes and snagging a few of the uninitiated.
As a Ford-man, I hate this!
Why? Because it’s what Ford should be doing. I love wagons, I had a white with tint EF II Fairmont Wagon lowered with 17″ AJRs, and it looked mickey mouse!
I think Holden will do wonders with their sportswagon, especially the SS, SSV, and Calais V variants. Now this!
This could well hurt the F6X….
BTW, anyone seen the FG XR8 Wagon CGI???? It is P.O.R.N!
the adventra was a half a#se after thought. the new commy wagon isnt.
the adventra was tacked together as holdens answer to the territory. they got a bit c-o-c-k-y in thinking they could put a holden badge on any ole tacky thing and people would buy it.
boss,
send us a link to the XR8 wagon…
im sure with the right roof line etc it would look awesome
Try hard car for bogans who have no idea about motoring.
V8 – CHECK
HOLDEN – CHECK
PUB MATE APPROVED – CHECK
= GOLD CAR
Andrew M,
I think the Adventura hit the streets before Territory, but I take your point that it was Holdens sulotion to the segment.
Did you know that the Adventura development and release was delayed because one of the lead AWD engineers was poached……by Ford to work on the Territory project.
AM check back to the other post where I explained your error with the funding issue.
Bret,
well you got me on a technicallity.
i suppose to be politically correct i should have worded it as the solution to the segment as you did.
Andrew M,
CGI is in the forum under car talk. Check it out.
