2011 Audi A6 at Australian International Motor Show 2011

The all-new 2011 Audi A6 is now on sale following its unveiling at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne.

The seven-generation A6, which was revealed to the world exactly seven months ago, has been completely revised inside and out, and features a range of new fuel efficient engines.

Audi Australia has launched the A6 with the three higher-end models: the 2.8 FSI, 3.0 TDI and the 3.0 TFSI. In the fourth quarter of 2011, Audi will introduce two entry-level front-wheel drive four-cylinder variants – one petrol and one diesel.

The 2.8-litre FSI petrol engine produces 150kW of power and 280Nm of torque. Combined cycle fuel consumption is a tidy enough 8.0 litres/100km.

The larger 3.0-litre TFSI petrol engine pumps up the power to 220kW and 440Nm. The sprint from 0-100km/h is all over in 5.5 seconds, while combined cycle fuel consumption is only marginally higher than the 2.8 FSI at 8.2 litres/100km.

The only diesel available from launch is the 3.0-litre TDI. It produces 180kW and 500Nm of torque, yet combined cycle consumption is kept to an impressively low 6.0 litres/100km.

All three models come standard with Audi quattro all-wheel drive, a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, engine start-stop system and brake energy recovery, and Audi drive select dynamic handling system.

Prices have increased over their respective models from the previous range – 2.8 FSI up $100, 3.0 TDI up $6000, 3.0 TFSI up $7000 – although all three remain cheaper than their direct BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class rivals.

At 4920mm long (wheelbase 2910mm), 1870mm wide and 1460mm tall, the new A6 is slightly shorter and lower than the outgoing model, but is wider and has a longer wheelbase. The luggage compartment is 530 litres.

The new dimensions translate to a more spacious and open interior feel. The high-quality interior features a number of new standard luxuries including layered-wood veneer panels, ‘deluxe’ climate control, the latest-generation MMI radio operating system and touchpad with numeral and letter recognition.

Higher-end options and features include Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, head-up display, night vision and lane assist.

2011 Audi A6 manufacturer’s list prices (excluding government and dealer charges):

  • 2.8 FSI quattro – $93,900
  • 3.0 TDI quattro – $116,500
  • 3.0 TFSI quattro – $121,500

Overseas model shown. Live pictures from Melbourne coming soon. Stay tuned.
