2008 Ford FG Falcon Ute (base model)

The entry-spec FG Falcon ute is available in either Cab Chassis or Styleside Box bodystyles and can be optioned with a choice of engines and transmissions.

In standard trim, the base level ute is powered by the I6 petrol engine, producing 195kW of power and 391Nm of torque. Power is put through a new six-speed manual transmission. The new five-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift (SSS) is available as an option.

Buyers going for E-Gas dedicated LPG engine (option), will have to make do with the old-tried and tested four-speed automatic transmission with SSS.

Safety is taken care of by driver and passenger airbags, driver Beltminder® system and ABS with EBD. Side head/thorax airbags are available as part of an optional Safety Pack that will also equip the ute with a perimeter alarm system.

    wre are the FPV’S?

  2. Frugal-One Says:

NOT going to upgrade, wait for the V6 in 2010.

Will go and check it out, maybe something from the update can be fitted to mine?

Far to much like the BFMK11 all the same.Engine, LPG system and transmission on the bench seat model same, oh and you dont get power seat if you go bench seat, same with adj. steering height/reach, get bench seat and thats all fixed.

Seems Ford are not smart enough or more likely bothered to make the changes required.

GREAT to see a bench seat and NOW with headrest!!

    Cheers

    Forgot -

    Should/nt that be IL6 not just l6?

Oh, and “tried and tested 4 speed auto” i KNOW not, yeap you guessed it something is wrong with my A/T. Dont know if its a software issue or internal?NFI?

Does not shift in and out between 3rd/4th, dealer is cool with it, will fix it at the 3000km inspection.

    Cheers

Is it me or the VE Commodore Omega ute looks better than fords base model cab chassis ute?

    (Report)

  5. Duck Says:

How much storage space in litres does it have behind the seats compared to the commodore ute?

    (Report)

  6. Frugal-One Says:

    DUCK -

The Comm. does look more *pretty*, but lot less workhorse, infact you CANNOT buy a cab chassis in a Comm. ute since the VE came out.No bench seat either.

The VE is more carlike and better resale to boot.

The VE utes are the new Monaros :-)

Well the Styleside box is what i meant.

  8. Fenno Says:

F-O, from your previous comments you seem to be an advocate for Gas. Will the new motor come with an approved gas kit? Is it worth waiting or sticking with something proven…

    (Report)

  9. Andrew M Says:

    F-O,
mate, does the 3rd picture turn you on?
ooohhhhh baby, a photo of a bench seat!!!!!
ha ha ha ha ha ha

    Fenno,
what do you mean by approved LPG kit?
ford fits a dedicated LPG system. it runs LPG only and no unleaded fuel at all.
the motor is set in the best way to take LPG unlike the many converted models, BUT the brain ford uses to inject the LPG into the motor is old school, but i suppose it does the job. its also a less complicated system. all the taxis use the same system.

there are better LPG systems out there than what ford fits BUT ford provides the best set up motor to have LPG on

what were you wanting to put LPG on?

    (Report)

  10. Fenno Says:

Andrew, I was referring to Frugal one stating his intentions to wait for the new motor. In my experience in this industry, factory gas is not always immediately available (if at all) on new motors when they are introduced. Just wondering why F-O hadnt already been down to his local ford dealer and putdown a deposit.

    (Report)

  11. Andrew M Says:

because he just purchased an LPG falcon ute about 4 weeks ago.
surely he isnt going to replace his new one already

  12. No Name Says:

Hey baby what a loverleee bench seat. Eh Frugal.
Must admit why you guys like the trays on the back mystifies me. Ugly. sorry

    (Report)

  13. Frugal One Says:

    FENN0 -

    Falcon and LPG go hand-in-hand.

Its required by taxi fleet and high mileage drivers like me, i am sure it will be out same day the V6 is released.

    ANDREW-M -

    Re bench seat

Like he BIG man use to say…”i’m excited” ! :-)

  16. No Name Says:

Yeh I know Ford G - appreciate that. Can’t imagine anything in the back here in pommieland would be there for long, the scallies would half hinch it, then the gypo’s would strip the tray for the alu scrap. Ha Ha ;)

Toyoda does sell a mass of rocking chairs to the masses….

  20. Andrew M Says:

    Ford G Series,
well said mate. ha ha ha ha
    ” It’s a work-horse not a rocking horse..”

    realcars,
i have learnt that thr RTV got left out so that it didnt detract from the ranger fleet.
    weird i know.
RTV is possibly the best all round work vehicle i reckon.

the word is it may make a return though

    no name,
    come on admitt it,
the real reason you cant have open trays on vehicles is because the weather is so shyte.
thats why vans are the choice aye ;)

  21. TP Says:

Toyota sells a mass of rocking chairs… yet they have the quickest vehicle in SUV market, quickest vehicle in 4WD market, quicker vehicle in Large sedan market, quickest vehicle in people mover market… also the best handler in large car market. Hmmm Im not sayng Toyota are that great at performance, but gee whiz they are topping just about every market in ‘performance’ credentials. Whats that Make Ford in these markets?

    (Report)

  22. Andrew M Says:

    TP,
    quickest SUV?
havent you heard of the turbo Territory?

    and best handlers??
yep those drugs are really kicked in now

  24. Naughtyius Maximus Says:

Must admit I seen a Toyota Camry Sportivo in lime green and it looked hot and suited the car (colour). Thats just me - I like to have a NON - WORK car that is cute as and has hot inside. I hate cardigan and Mozart playing in back ground…..rather a terrier and stunning svelte number like a turbo ute! The look of the turbo flaws me. I think the Falcon will do well if great deals are enhanced onto poverty packs (5 alloys, curtain airbags, upgraded gearboxed OR LPG….all at ‘NO EXTRA COST’ and market it fully hard). The way Ford in the past marketted has been flawed and hollow! I sense that Ford is going to hit market hard in around 12months when some stunners come into marketplace…..and then some!

  25. Golfschwein Says:

Aurion couldn’t beat XR6 in WASP test. Sad.

    (Report)

  26. Duck Says:

Still whats the base line ford ute called? It’s not called the XL anymore is it? So you can’t call it “The base line falcon Ute”. So what is it called?

    (Report)

  27. TP Says:

Haha Golf… base model v sporty, the fact the Aurion came close indicates in sporty guise the Aurion will have a great chance of winning… suspension adds ALOT… so do wider tyres. Nothing floored in that argument.

Corrected AndrewM, but even with a turbo slapped on it doesnt the Territory T do the 100 in 7s? The Kluger still NA does it in 7.4seconds… also cheaper then the $65k Territory T which is fugly compared to Kluger.

    (Report)

  28. TP Says:

I agree NM for $45k the XR6T for me, even with that great 0-100kmh, is floored. It needs those 5 spokes that are seen on XR8 (the ones it comes with are done to DEATH on Fords now), Curtains must be std (base model Commo and Auron have it…. a $45k XR6T should have it…ridiciulous it doesnt) and other features should be added. I imagine they will do this, just doing some market skimming atm

    (Report)

  29. Golfschwein Says:

TP, if only the Dockers kicked another ten points yesterday afternoon, they’d have won too! Oh man, they were SO CLOSE!!!

But they didn’t. They lost, just like the Aurion.

Your argument is heavily, dare I say it, “floored”.
