Lexus LF-Gh concept at Australian International Motor Show 2011

The Lexus LF-Gh concept has been unveiled at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne in just its second public outing anywhere in the world.

The dramatic luxury grand tourer previews the next-generation Lexus GS sedan, which is due to launch by 2013.

At 4890mm long, 1870mm wide and 1450mm tall, the LF-Gh concept is 40mm longer, 50mm wider and 20mm taller than the current Lexus GS 450h.

Lexus says the LF-Gh concept gives showgoers their first look at the latest evolution of the Lexus ‘L finesse’ design language, including the spindle grille, which will become the focal point of all upcoming Lexus designs.

The exterior is a significant departure from the current Lexus GS, and draws inspiration from the LFA supercar as well as the newest addition to Lexus’ showroom, the CT 200h hatch. All the details are sharp and the extensive use of LEDs gives it a futuristic and crisp appearance.

Only a few teaser images of the interior have been revealed so far, but it promises to be more fluidic and elegant than its brutal shell.

The LF-Gh concept utilises a hybrid propulsion system, although Lexus is yet to reveal the details of this new powertrain.

Lexus Design Division general manger, Kengo Matsumoto, said the LF-Gh aims to balance the normally opposing qualities of style and functionality.

"For this concept, Lexus designers studied characteristics that are often considered contradictory and difficult to execute together," Matsumoto said.

"Although only a concept, we hope the LF-Gh will resonate with our customers worldwide and communicate our intention to once again advance ideas about the face of Lexus luxury in the years to come."
