Hyundai Veloster five-door on the way?

The Hyundai Veloster is a sporty four-door hatch, but it's far from conventional. There's two doors on one side, one on the other, and the hatch at the back. In case this layout doesn't go down too well with consumers, Hyundai is apparently working on a normal five-door version.

According to reports, Eunjoo Shin, Manager for the Overseas Product Planning Team at Hyundai Motor Company, has revealed to certain sources that the company is working on the development of a five-door version of the sporty new hatch.

Hyundai hasn't publically revealed official plans but it is something that could be headed our way further down the track. With the Hyundai Veloster being built on the Hyundai Elantra platform, there's certainly room for a five-door layout.

It will be interesting to see if the Veloster's 1+2 door layout takes off when it arrives in Australian showrooms towards the end of this year. What do you think, does it defeat the purpose of making a quirky sports layout in the first place? Would you prefer a 1+2 hatch or a five-door if you were in the market for a Veloster? Let us know in the comments section below.

Pricing for the Hyundai Veloster is yet to be finalised. Reports point to figures of around the $25,000-$30,000 mark, but we'll keep you updated with more concrete figures as soon as we can.
