Hyundai Veloster five-door on the way?

By Brett Davis |

The Hyundai Veloster is a sporty four-door hatch, but it’s far from conventional. There’s two doors on one side, one on the other, and the hatch at the back. In case this layout doesn’t go down too well with consumers, Hyundai is apparently working on a normal five-door version.

According to reports, Eunjoo Shin, Manager for the Overseas Product Planning Team at Hyundai Motor Company, has revealed to certain sources that the company is working on the development of a five-door version of the sporty new hatch.

Hyundai hasn’t publically revealed official plans but it is something that could be headed our way further down the track. With the Hyundai Veloster being built on the Hyundai Elantra platform, there’s certainly room for a five-door layout.

It will be interesting to see if the Veloster’s 1+2 door layout takes off when it arrives in Australian showrooms towards the end of this year. What do you think, does it defeat the purpose of making a quirky sports layout in the first place? Would you prefer a 1+2 hatch or a five-door if you were in the market for a Veloster? Let us know in the comments section below.

Pricing for the Hyundai Veloster is yet to be finalised. Reports point to figures of around the $25,000-$30,000 mark, but we’ll keep you updated with more concrete figures as soon as we can.

i think i would prefer the 1+2 config.

I hate having to squeeze into a little front door on a small 5 door hatch. (i’m just over 6″)

I reckon a two door would be better!

I think it looks better from the drivers side with the long doors, if your in the market for a 2 door hatch you normally do not have much to carry in rear seats, and if you need easy access to the rear you buy a traditional hatchback.

    I’d take a Turbo over a 5th door…………..

It looks great, but there is a certain something that’s not quite right with the looks. I just can’t think of the certain something.

I think to hyundai to save money
For LHD they will keep 4 door and 5 door
Possible on RHD market they only sell 5 door
So they can save some $$$

    Hope NOT…

    I think 3door,4door,5door & a TURBO!

4 Door. The car is designed for the driver and in my case no-one would have any legroom behind me. Another thing is if you loaded the car up it would have to struggle with the weight only having a small amount of torque. Its suspension would also be on the sporty side, so you would be feeling every bump on the road. Its not a family car so there is no need to worry about getting kids in the back seat.

I’ve read somewhere else that they’ll be around the $20K mark. They are $17,500 on the US market!! Might as well make it a 5 door, what’s the point of only having 2 doors on one side?!?! If they were $20K who wouldn’t buy one????
