2011 Citroen C4 on sale in Australia in Q3

The all-new 2011 Citroen C4 will go on sale in Australia in the third quarter of this year bringing with it a stunning new design and a revised range of petrol and diesel engines.

The new Citroen C4, which made its global debut at the Paris Motor Show in September last year, is a considerably more premium offering than the vehicle it replaces.

Edward Rowe from Citroen’s Australian distributor, Ateco Automotive, confirmed the make-up of the new C4 range in Australia would be very similar to the outgoing one, with entry-level petrol and diesel options as well as a higher performance turbocharged petrol engine at the top of the range.

The 1.6-litre VTi petrol engine will produce 88kW of power and 160Nm of torque (up from 80kW and 147Nm). It will be teamed with either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. Combined cycle fuel consumption for the UK-spec vehicle is 6.9 litres/100km for the auto and 6.2 litres/100km for the manual.

The 1.6-litre HDi diesel will produce 82kW and 270Nm (up from 80kW/260Nm). It is teamed with a six-speed manual and six-speed ESG sequential transmission and in the UK achieves combined fuel figures of between 4.2 litres/100km and 4.7 litres/100km.

The top-spec 1.6-litre turbocharged THP petrol engine generates 115kW of power and 240Nm of torque. In the UK, it comes with just one transmission option, the six-speed ESG, although this may change when the vehicle is launched in Australia. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 8.7 seconds while combined cycle fuel consumption is tidy at 6.4 litres/100km.

At 4330mm long, 1790mm wide and 1490mm tall, the new C4 is 50mm longer, 20mm wider and 30mm taller than the outgoing model. The 408-litre boot with its practical, square dimensions promises to be one of the largest in its class.

Overseas, the entry-level C4 comes standard with stability control and six airbags, Hill Start Assist, cruise control with speed limiter, six-speaker CD player, multi-function steering wheel and 16-inch steel wheels.

Higher models in the range score larger alloy wheels, front fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, automatic headlights and wipers, leather steering wheel and upholstery, electric front seats with massage function and dual-zone climate control.

The new C4 has been awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP.

The outgoing Citroen C4 is priced from $26,990 to $33,990 before on-road costs, and the new model is expected to be available at a similar price point.

Full pricing and specification details of the 2011 Citroen C4 will be revealed closer to the car’s Australian launch in the third quarter of this year. Stay tuned.
