May 2, 2008 by George Skentzos

These exclusive spy shots reveal a glimpse of the new Cadillac CTS Coupe undergoing testing in the US.

Despite the heavy camouflage, similarities with the concept revealed at the 2008 Detroit motor show are easily identifiable.

Primarily it seems to have maintained its unique integrated centre exhaust outlet, as well as a unique touch pad set-up in place of conventional door handles.

The coupé will also feature a backup camera which is not currently found on the sedan.

Code-named GMX226, the stylish couple will be built alongside the CTS sedan in May at the Lansing Grand River Plant in the U.S.

Although there has been no official word as yet, it is highly possible Cadillac could include this model in its newly introduced Australian line-up.

Cadillac knows that they have to fix up the rear end on the coupe if it did make it to production for europeans or ozzies! etc. The styling for cadillac rears dont work for coupes ^ as we can see or converibles like we’ve seen. But the the new CTS sedan, i reckon it suits it lovely!

But americans, it wouldnt matter, they love any weird styling!

hmmm…. i dislike the rear, its too high, just like the concept. I prefer the 90’s eldorado coupe.

I can’t wait for the sedan to come. It should be a great 3-Series rival, which handles nicely and is bigger and better looking than the Bimmer. I’m just not sure about the engine, which is simply a direct-injection version of the lethargic Alloytec of that Commodore. It may not beat out what the Germans have to offer, especially the twin-turbo I6 of the 335i. But the bottom line is Cadillac has made its mark, and the CTS, among many promising new GM models, should help lift the company from crisis.

I think it would also look a s–tload better if it had rounded headlights [like a Merc] as seen with the car bra instead of the blade style headlights as seen on other caddie images

Not much a view out of the rear. Guess the boot ha ha sorry trunk will get a few set of golf clubs in there for the fat yanks.

That’s right I saw that Duck, the Wheels mag has spy pics of a 2-Door Commodore.

This is a weird shape Cadillac, epically the rear. Looks like a box

I got nailed last time I mentioned fat yanks…their so sensitive.I mean look at Gordon Ramsay…..he rocks!

Good old AndrewM came to my defence, before the days of BIG W and myself. Didn’t help when I got a bad bum steer from my son …..Dan!

Have they made a good looking Caddy since 1959? Now that was cool, these new ones are no representation of the old ones.YUK!

O and No Name when I was there in August last year I saw a set of golf clubs in the front seat of a Ferrari I think it was from memory! I did a story on a drive of the Hertz Shelby Stang the EX and I drove down the coast, Alborz posted up on the site that I now think he regrets ,may have been before your time! Anyhow it disgusted a lot of Yanks? I was just trying to add humour!I think the thread has now been deleted but hell it got a lot of hits in 24 hours!I dont think Big W ever read it but maybe………..he was a closet BM lover then, not that I ever knew!

The yanks need to go back to their roots with Caddies. Worked for Ford with the Stang…….and will with the Camaro. I know they are trying to compete with the luxury market but really all there providing America{cause no one else would want it}is a Wall-mart equivalent of Harrods……you know what I mean!!!!

Honestly American syle is a love hate thing bit like vegemite. Some of the things they produce look like they’ve been fashioned out of a cardboard box and a stiff one at that. Its probably a male thing as we blokes like our curves eh wheelnut ;)

I could never be confused for someone who appreciates American cars. Infact by definition generally, i hate american cars. BUT just lately something strange has been happening… i think i am starting to “get” american cars! The latest incarnation of the corvette i find incredibly gorgeous! and the new range of caddy CTS’s i think are truly brilliant designs AND they appear to even be pretty well made and good to drive! A revelation! Richo now likes American cars! Well not really.. but i now don’t hate all of them anymore! There are a good two or three of em that i like!

      americans arent really that fat..

well theres a lot, but if you guys actually come here, you’d notice that a lot of females are generally “fit” looking..

I already made a comment about “big” Lexus owners complain anf file warranty claim as they continuously rub their bottoms on the B pillar garnish as they ingress/degress of the car (get in and out).

That’s right No Name we and the Europeans prefer curves.. I mean have you ever seen a perfectly straight line nature

Look at how aerodynamc a Fish or Bird with its curves etc is compared to a Brick or a Fridge…. the same principle allpies to cars

Apart from the New Mustang and Challenger there arent to many American cars with any half decent looks or real style.. I would include the Camaro but that was designed here in Oz

However; the fact that Toyotas major design studio is in California could explain why the majority of there cars are Boxy/Edgy Bland and Boring – heres a tip for TMC if you want style move here or to Germany

Bavarian Missile, I’ve seen your write up about the Mustang and you say how yanks seem to under rate Australian cars because they Australian that is right(e.g. JWFisher on CarConnection), but I don’t think all yanks think that. I have no problem with American cars, the old ones in the 50’s and 60’s were great cars although the Taurus and Exploder(Explorer) we got were lemon crap. One thing we have to remember though, if it wasn’t for the yanks, we wouldn’t be living the way we are now epically in the motor industry.

Trust you to remember OZ, your right there is a lot we can thank America for, thens there’s a lot we can blame them for too . Jamison American ? Or an Ozzie living there?

Evening No Name, curves and stiffness….don’t they go together sometimes? hehehe

      im with wheelnut,

the body looks great and even better with the bra on so you cant see the lights.

the rodeo style lights look horrible and ruin the whole car.

      its a “butter face” car.
      nice body, “but-her” face……………

      A mate of mine is restoring(more like remanufacturing)a 1959 barge,ummm not my cuppa,all arse & front.
Have they learned anything or just a glorified Chevy with more chrome bits?
If the CTS doesn’t make it here I won’t feel left out.

hahaha ,But you don’t look at the mantle piece Andrew when your poking the fire!

really David ,59 Caddys are ultra cool, and expensive. Better than a 57 Chev I think. Especially the convertibles.

      BM,
yep thats true. i also thought of the paper bag trick, but i dont think the temp gauges would appreciate that one

when you shop in this segment, you cant simply say dont look at the mantle. what are your mates gonna say when they have seen the fire you are poking?
you cant keep it in the garage all the time

Would I go out with Paris Hilton? NO – simply bcos you can’t put brains in statues.. just as money can’t buy love Paris shows that it can’t buy class or substance either.. and if you have to buy your friends what does that really say about you?

I have found that special someone with a lot more class style brains and substance than Paris could ever hope to have!
