Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Smashes World Drift Record

By Anthony Crawford |

Mauro Carlo is a professional driver who is also a member of the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows Display precision driving team, but he wasn’t out to entertain crowds at the Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey, today.

Today, he became the drift king by taking a high powered Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG sedan and smashing the world record drift by a massive 394 metres, achieving a total controlled drift distance of 2308 metres.

The handling circuit at Mercedes-Benz World provided a 360 degree circle of tarmac and after eight laps, Mauro Carlo entered the record books.

It seems that Andrew Mallery, Commercial Operations Director at Mercedes-Benz Cars had absolutely no doubts about Mauro’s ability to get the job done either when he said:

“When Mauro approached us ti hold his record breaking attempt on the circuit at Mercedes-Benz World we were happy to offer him the support. He has been a valuable member of the driving experience team for several years and is a respected driver in the industry, so there was no doubt he would achieve his aim.”

CarAdvice hopes to be able to provide a video of the world record drift in due course.

Didnt really expect Mercedes to be involved in these sort of shenanigans. Good on them for doing something different…..I guess.

  • B-spec Bob

Better this than Lewis Hamilton on the streets of Melbourne.

  • http://www.nsmg.com.au Wil-son

    What does it acually prove??
Who are they trying to attract to the brand?
I really can’t imagine that the traditional Benz buyer is going to find it a great sales pitch. And for the younger market they are obviously chasing with this, will they find it the thing that tips them into a Benz over say and Audi or BMW??
All it will do is bring the hooning, wanna-be street drifters into the showrooms to check out the C63 AMG. BRO!!

    • XA-Mont

      i completely dissagree with you.

I assume the normal market for an AMG would be cashed up middle aged professionals.

Whilst i assume this isn’t what most of them are going to do with their car (we have all seen the old bald guys driving around at 10 below the speed limit in there megabucks luxo sports cars) they are buying an AMG as an IMAGE thing.

They want other people to know that they have a fast car that is capable of great things… like drifting for over 2 kms

Geez Wil-son walk over to a friend & ask em to pull that huge stick out of your butt!!!

It’s just for s@#ts n giggles man like HSV with The Worlds Fastest Pick-up/Ute record several years ago.

Just get bck in your Camry and RELAX!!!!! sheesh!!!!

      Well done Mercedes!!!!

  • Roadtard

To the knuckleheads at HSV, you DO NOT need to chase this record.

    • drama queen

WHY! I might just give the supercharged GTS with 450kws to Mauro Carlo and see what he could do with that!!!

The guy is a great driver he could of done it in any powerful car……. Well maybe not a FWD

  • Car Fanatic

It shows the capabilities of the car. It’s a world record that requires skill and it gets the worlds attention. The fact it was done under strict controlled conditions raises brand awareness.

Just because they are Mercedes Benz, doesn’t mean they can’t appeal to the rich adrenaline junky who might get a thrill from drifting at a track day.

  • Valet Dabess

next time drift on a figure of 8 track. around a circle is a bit easy don’t you think

    • morons

I agree, this is more a high speed doughnut not a drift, they need to do it around an actual track with different corners.

      • Hudson

Come on boys, the record was for a continuous, unbroken drift..impossible to do on anything but a circle.

  • Horehey

Wasn’t the record they were aiming for meant to be 3km? They sort of failed then don’t you think?

  • MPS funjet

OMG! But where are the stickers!

  • Vince

    Let’s see an M3 do that :)

  • nobody

With a bit of animation M3 sure can…..
