I actually purchased one of these brand new and paid a small fortune having upgraded from a 2003 Subaru WRX.

As an investment, it’s poor…i know i’ve lost a hell of a lot of $ on the car as saabs have always been very niche and since GM took over, it’s killed the brand and product. but i really like the car…the XWD is superb and the car does have a quirkiness to it. for those un-informed ppl, it’s not a turbocharged commodore motor. it’s from the same GM ‘high feature’ stable of motors but not the same and has won a best engine award in 2006. the car is very underrated and i admit it’s not perfect. i’ve owned a new e46 bmw 325ci previously and build quality is probably comparable. there isnt the nice clunk like a bmw when closing the door but thats just extra door insulation/sound deadening…doesn’t mean a lot.

Bit overpriced for the car. But it looks good! Specially in sedan form. Some people wont like the brake lights that look like they have been faded.

There is no reason to believe that this SAAB will hold its value any better than any other SAAB. The only saving grace might be the Limited Edition run. So 23990 might not be too far off the mark

I sat in one of these at the Motor Show in 07 and it wsa nice-ish. But it is overpriced just like the Volvo S60R. It prolly equates to over 100K on the road unless the SAAB dealer is desparate. And they usually are.

Leaving aside comments on horrendous depreciation, recent testing in the U.S. by a Lemans winning driver Jan Magnusson got the following results on a Michigan track;

Dry Track

Subaru WRX STi: 138.60
BMW M3: 138.65
BMW 335xi (5dr AWD) 142.58
Saab Turbo X 142.91
Audi A4 3.2Quattro 145.27

Wet track figures not supplied but the Turbo X was beaten only by the M3 by 0.1 of a second.

Using Jimbo’s reasoning above, if the STi is less than half the price of an M3 why bother with the Beemer???
