Comments on: 2008 Jaguar XF lands in Australia

I,m from Rome and I had a XJ6 I series (1973)and a Daimler XJ40. Now I’ve a XJ6, III series (1982) and a XK8(first version, of course: the last design of Mr. Lyon). I always loved Jaguars, also the uglier: they always had an ageless trimness. This XF isn’t an ugly Jaguar, because it isn’t a Jaguar at all. We can only hope the new ownership and management will give us a real Jaguar style (technically modern but stylistically fascinating).

Sorry, but its simply UGLY.
Surely, it cannot be that hard to design a nice looking car.

Antonia….no they are not run as separate organisations. That is the point of ownership, they are very much directed by the parent company. This not only includes money but shared use of designers, engineers, developement and even parts sharing, as in some models of Jags which used the Mondeo platform and other parts. This new Jag even has design similarities to the Mondeo and FG Falcon.

I love it! best looking jag in a very long time..It should sell very well, much nicer than bland 5 series bmw and E class merc, Looks much better in real life than the photos..

i have to say that i really don’t like the front end; it looks like a Skoda crossed with a Celica – not cool. Rear is fantastic, side profile is hot, just not the front. That’s my 2 cents…

Yes Rogue, Ford was the parent, but you must understand that Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston martin at the time were and still are, all run as entirely separate organisations, with entirely separate design teams. The fact that Ford is (the Tata deal is not finalised) the parent, has little to do with the design direction Callum wanted to take the XF. They don’t pay the kind of salary package Callum is on, and then sit down and give him a lesson in automotive design.

Anthony.yes Ian Callum is director of design at Jaguar which until recently was owned by Ford, this car was designed during Ford ownership. He worked for Ford in Britain, USA, Germany, Japan and Australia. He also worked on styling at Volvo and Mazda which are still Ford owned. So really until recently he was still working for Ford therefore its a Ford design.

hmm now that I see it in this colour,,, well one things’ for sure , its not the typical Jag.. more an Americanized version and those humps in the bonnet are going to age that car in a bad way..

not quite a fan of the exterior, a darker colour perhaps ? to hide the lines.. rear reminds me of an Aston Martin..

hopefully it does well. Doesnt Tata own Jag now? (wanna read something funny? look up tata in urban dictionary :P)

nice looking car …..glad it doesnt have those stupid oversized front wheel arches …its a nice smooth classy look………..much like the FG Falcon……which is no surprise really……. this was designed by Ford.

Looks great inside and outside. Has a lot of maserati in its design and dare i say it aston martin in the rear. Great photos as usual Paul. Keep it up.
