2008 Jaguar XF lands in Australia
April 28, 2008 by Paul Maric
CarAdvice has just attended the Australian launch of the all new Jaguar XF. Radical styling and handling characteristics to rival its competitors place the Jaguar XF as a major contender in the luxury car market.
The entry level 3-litre V6 petrol, and 2.7-litre twin turbo diesel kick off the range, at the starting price of $105,500. The 4.2-litre petrol powered V8 is next up at $130,500, leaving the supercharged 4.2-litre V8 to round out the XF stable at $166,700.
So far, the XF has been claiming awards overseas. It has bagged the What Car 2008 “Car of the Year” Award, in addition to the “Car of the Year” from the Sun newspaper and the “Interior of the Year” from Car magazine.
Although a thorough first steer will appear in the coming days, check out CarAdvice’s exclusive photos from the Australian launch at Mt Buller.

as ford says
“make or break” car………….i like it actually

It looks far better in person believe it or not.
Your right there Paul. It got loads of presence. Aparently 90% of the sales in the UK are diesel. cool.
Snowing early this year ain’t it. Have to buy my ticket to ski Falls again.
It’s a fantastic looking car, except for the front grille, it seems like it was almost 5pm when they got to design that part.
Whats wrong with the grill. I kinda think it look classy and fits well. Folks have mentioned the headlights as being upside down Passat lights but they work for me along with the grill.
Strong Maserati themes here
Looks less like a Jaguar than ever.
But that’s what happens when the original ownership is lost.
Love the pics, can’t wait for the review!
I like it, although I think they could have made the exterior door handles a bit more upmarket. Also, the front headlights look a little too Toyota Avalon for my liking.
Agree with reckless, hasnt got that jag look esp like X-types / XJ’s, i dunno, looks ok.
For some reason it reminds me of the new Falcon.
Pretty bland looking to me.
Man we get ripped off here. In the states the prices range from 49k for the standard v8 to 62k for the supercharged, they don’t even have the v6 for sale there. When our dollars are so close to parity it is outrageous how they can charge us so much here. Looks like a nice car though.
your right odog we do get dodged something bad here with prices. look at the GTR if you really want to cry. or bmw m3.
i think the fact that this jaguar dosnt look like a jaguar is whats gona save its hind. audi bmw and mercedes “………………….holden?”…………people might shift across to the big cat? ive always loved jagaur… their dodgyness and history of problems was something to smile at.. now.. i think its time to grow up and move up into the big school

Overall it looks fine, it has more of a coupe shape going more than a sedan, which is nice. I’m not sold on the headlights though, I just think it’d look a whole lot better without that bubble bit. The rear lights are very Aston-Martin, which can only be a good thing.
Looks great inside and outside. Has a lot of maserati in its design and dare i say it aston martin in the rear. Great photos as usual Paul. Keep it up.
haha should’ve read the other comments before i posted. Sorry for stating something that others have already mentioned – re. maserati & aston
nice looking car …..glad it doesnt have those stupid oversized front wheel arches …its a nice smooth classy look………..much like the FG Falcon……which is no surprise really……. this was designed by Ford.
Designed by Ian Callum – Director of Design – Jaguar.
Looks great, would be even better in a different colour though.
hmm now that I see it in this colour,,, well one things’ for sure , its not the typical Jag.. more an Americanized version and those humps in the bonnet are going to age that car in a bad way..
not quite a fan of the exterior, a darker colour perhaps ? to hide the lines.. rear reminds me of an Aston Martin..
hopefully it does well. Doesnt Tata own Jag now? (wanna read something funny? look up tata in urban dictionary :P)
Saw one of these on the road in Sydney the other day. Looked great. Wish I could buy one
Aw – do you agree it look better in the ‘flesh’
Anthony.yes Ian Callum is director of design at Jaguar which until recently was owned by Ford, this car was designed during Ford ownership. He worked for Ford in Britain, USA, Germany, Japan and Australia. He also worked on styling at Volvo and Mazda which are still Ford owned. So really until recently he was still working for Ford therefore its a Ford design.
Check the interior of this car, somewhat pointless but fun at the same time. Just search youtube for video LYqL01WB2Is (my comment gets moderated if I link to it).
Yes Rogue, Ford was the parent, but you must understand that Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston martin at the time were and still are, all run as entirely separate organisations, with entirely separate design teams. The fact that Ford is (the Tata deal is not finalised) the parent, has little to do with the design direction Callum wanted to take the XF. They don’t pay the kind of salary package Callum is on, and then sit down and give him a lesson in automotive design.
anti-spam = audi lol
i have to say that i really don’t like the front end; it looks like a Skoda crossed with a Celica – not cool. Rear is fantastic, side profile is hot, just not the front. That’s my 2 cents…
I love it! best looking jag in a very long time..It should sell very well, much nicer than bland 5 series bmw and E class merc, Looks much better in real life than the photos..
Antonia….no they are not run as separate organisations. That is the point of ownership, they are very much directed by the parent company. This not only includes money but shared use of designers, engineers, developement and even parts sharing, as in some models of Jags which used the Mondeo platform and other parts. This new Jag even has design similarities to the Mondeo and FG Falcon.
No Name. Yes it looked so much better in the flesh than in the photos. It was great. Pity I didn’t have that sort of cash lying around!
Ford will still supply the engines to Jaguar
Sorry, but its simply UGLY.
Surely, it cannot be that hard to design a nice looking car.
Its going to be a flop in Australia, mark my words.
SJ – suppose you think a Ssanyong is lovely. pfft.
I,m from Rome and I had a XJ6 I series (1973)and a Daimler XJ40. Now I’ve a XJ6, III series (1982) and a XK8(first version, of course: the last design of Mr. Lyon). I always loved Jaguars, also the uglier, also the S-type: they always had an ageless trimness. This XF isn’t an ugly Jaguar, because it isn’t a Jaguar at all. At the present we can only hope the new ownership and management will give us a real Jaguar style (technically modern but stylistically fascinating).
