“Just 680 Swift RE2 cars will go on sale. With $3000 of extras, it represents an outstanding opportunity to get behind the wheel and discover why the Swift has established itself as one of Australia’s most popular small cars.” said Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers.

Must admit to liking Suzukis little cars, not that i’d drive a small car personally. I honestly would have this over a Corolla at that price.

  2. Dlr1 Says:

Yeah, they’re not a bad little hatch, but a hell of a lot smaller than the corolla.

  3. Reckless1 Says:

I love the way the calculate the value of the extras - $3000 for a few bits of plastic and an Ipod interface.

But they leave out the curtains……

cost of the extra stuff - maybe $300 worth there.

However, I do like the Swift - they look great in any of their many colours, and are spacious inside with a good ambience. They don’t feel cheap like a Rio or Getz.

  4. Joober Says:

    Goddamit wheres the GTI!!!!!

  5. Jimbo Says:

Extra value while keeping the price low. Go Suzuki. Although, for a guy its hard to look manly while driving this car. Which is a shame because its a great value ride.

    (Report)

  6. Reckless1 Says:

You could be right, Jimbo. My daughter has a pearl white Swift S, and it doesn’t diminish her femininity at all.

I guess the guys driving these need to be mindful to take their earrings out and leave the makeup off, to stand a chance of remaining macho!

  7. kasparov Says:

    huh?

This is one of the less girly small cars out there. Which small car is more macho than this? (excluding sports/hot hatchs)

This is an awesome car! And many guys do drive it!

  8. coconut wireless Says:

true my brother.. these small cars are so feminine.. doesnt help that the ladies dress up the car with pink assessories. hell, i dont drive my partners car as she has got girly seat covers and a bright pink steering wheel cover and guess what the seat cover says—wicked princess. the last time i drove the yaris was for servicing and man, i got stares from the brothers..
Guys, enjoy your day and peace… :)

    (Report)

  9. Reckless1 Says:

Compared to Yaris, the Swift has monster balls :) I definately feel for any male who is caught driving one of them. Hate to be a mechanic… But surely no guys BUY them??

Must confess, I did get a few weird looks a couple of weeks ago when the Jackaroo was in for a timing belt & tappets - I was driving the wife’s Pearl White Sirion. (And the seat covers have bloody paws on them……)

But a few had to have a second look at the next roundabout, cause they got a good look at the GTVi badge on the back after I took off. It goes pretty well for a baby car :)

Great news for racing stripe suppliers…No doubt you will see bucket loads of these on the road driven by aggresive young gen-Y’ers, hogging the right hand lane and tailgating anybody doing the right thing in traffic…Luckily (like the old Swift and any hyundai excel) these things only hold together for about 5 years before they are admitted to that giant car-yard in the sky.

    (Report)

  11. Reckless1 Says:

And you are an industry expert on how durable a Swift is. Wondering who appointed you to that illustrious role.

    5 years, eh?.

    You’re a wanker mate.

  12. D 1 0 N Says:

Funny how it’s a “rally inspired” upgrade but the changes are purely aesthetic. Oh, how I long for a modern interpretation of the GTi…

    (Report)

  13. SteveC Says:

Scrap all the extras and give me $3K worth of bigger rims and rubber. I don’t know about you, but it looks a bit under tyred.

    Cheers
    SteveC

So you’d sacrafice a good compliant ride to go round a corner 2k’s faster. Mmmmmm boy racer by any chance, you want loud pipes and stickers to go with it.

    (Report)

  15. The Axe Says:

Joober, the modern day GTi is the Swift Sport. Much better than the old GTi.

If anyone thinks the Swift will fall apart in 5 years is deluded. They are one of the few small vehicles we get in Australia that are built in Japan. Reliability and quality is definately there.

    (Report)

  16. Eyma Teapot Says:

Luckily (like the old Swift and any hyundai excel) these things only hold together for about 5 years before they are admitted to that giant car-yard in the sky.

Fenno, this is one of the dumbest comments i ever seen posted on this sight[and thats sying something, you should see some of TP’s.] you must be legally blind if you have”nt seen the whole armies of old swifts and excels on the road. These two may not be the most glamorous cars on the road but boy, they just keep going.

I agree with Reckless 1…Your a wanka mate

  17. Trini Chile Says:

Hey guys I’m also in love with the swift sport and i’m a proud owner. I don’t think the car is too girly for aguy, in trinidad the manual version is a favourite when it comes to road rallying alot of guys love it for the speed and affordability besides its quite the eyecatccher if u get it in one of the brighter models with the black and red sport bucket seats, definitely not too girly

    (Report)

  18. Jools Says:

You guys are all over compensating for something if you think its girly and too small for a guy. I saw a guy in an S model driving around sydney and trust me, he looked hot!

    (Report)

  19. Duck Says:

Ive been turned off by this car because it does look to girly.

    (Report)

  20. Brad Says:

well i’m also a proud owner of a swift re2. not only do i think its one of the better looking small cars out there, but coming from someone one has been driving an r33 for 5 years, it doesn’t go to bad either. and boy is it cheap to run. as for being girly…well i never really saw it as a girls car, but i have done an exhaust job on it and put some new rims on, not because it looked girly but in memory on the skyline :( god bless the Japanese.

    (Report)

  21. EllzBellz Says:

I’m a proud owner of the ‘08 Swift RE2. I love our new car, it’s civilised, it’s cheap to run, and it’s damn hot looking. Also very easy to drive.

I don’t find this car girly at all, and I AM a girl. I find Barina’s and Tiida’s a bit girly, but maybe that’s because they’re craptacular and made in Korea?

    (Report)

  22. Bek Says:

Hmm…I just bought a white one, I think theyre great, then again I am a girl…and I’m just about to put hot pink racing stripes on it, unless theres a better colour suggestion? hehe

    (Report)

  23. Rob Says:

Has anyone noticed a burning smell coming through into the cabin? I’ve had my Swift for 3 months now, and find myself having to open all windows to get the damn smell out! This however only happens when heavily accelerating(onto motorway), or overtaking.
I”ve taken it back to the dealer, and after being given the runaround by the service manager(tosser), decided to speak with the general manager, who arranged for a Suzuki rep to come out and test the car, their verdict was that the smell was from the catalytic converter and that this is normal.
Is this normal? this is a new car, should i be getting any smell coming through?
this is not my first used or new car and have never experienced this prob.
I would be happy otherwise but find myself contemplating getting rid of it!
    Any similar experiences anyone?

  24. Da Devil Says:

You lot are are pack of complaining girls i bet not one of you could even aford a swift, Pack of rope smokers is what you all are.

    (Report)

  25. Ash Says:

The Swift is a great car but who the hell would buy the RE1??

“Hey check out my car, I bought it because I couldn’t afford the Sport model..”

    (Report)

  26. MK Says:

Well being a 22 year old, who is sick of paying $100+ to fill up a V6, and only use the first 1/3 of the cabin space, i went out and got a Swift Sport (in Champion Yellow). Combined with tints, and leather interior… its awesome!
