Eminem sues Audi for use of ‘Lose Yourself’ track

Eminem has sued Audi and filed a cease and desist order against the German manufacturer for allegedly using his song ‘Lose Yourself’ illegally in a commercial for the 2012 Audi A6 Avant.

Although the soundtrack to the Audi clip is not Eminem’s actual recording of the 2004 Grammy award winning rap song, it is almost identical and unlikely to be a mere coincidence.

The commercial itself is also very similar to the ‘Imported from Detroit’ campaign that starred Eminem and the new Chrysler 200, and was one of the most popular ads during the Super Bowl earlier this year.

Compare the two for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Eminem’s Detroit-based publisher, Eight Mile Style, filed against Audi in a Hamburg regional court this week and is seeking damages.

“We believe Audi not only used ‘Lose Yourself’ to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler's commercial campaign,” Eight Mile Style spokesman Joel Martin said in a statement.

Chrysler is yet to react to the developments and has not confirmed whether it plans to enter its own legal battle with Audi.

Audi in the US has responded to the 38-year-old rapper’s claims, denying that the product film is a commercial and insisting that Audi has never publically aired it in the US.

“The video referred to is not an advertisement. Also, this does not involve Audi of America. The video was not shown here in the US,” an Audi US spokesperson said.

The case is far from over. We will keep you updated as the story evolves.
