2011 Mitsubishi Outlander ACTiV on sale in Australia

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has reintroduced the Mitsubishi Outlander ACTiV special edition, adding a range of extra features for no additional cost.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander ACTiV is based on the entry-level Outlander LS model and can be ordered with a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission, front- or all-wheel drive, and five or seven seats.

On the outside, the ACTiV includes 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome grille with black centre, fog lamps, black roof rails with cross bars, chrome exhaust tip and ‘ACTiV’ badging.

Interior additions include chrome door handles and silver trim highlights, reversing sensors and Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity. Two-wheel drive variants also score automatic air-conditioning and side and curtain airbags (features already standard on the four-wheel drive models).

The Outlander ACTiV is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 125kW of power and 226Nm of torque.

Combined cycle fuel consumption ranges from 9.2-9.5 litres/100km depending on the variant.

This is the third special edition Outlander ACTiV released by Mitsubishi Motors Australia in the past three years, with the previous models released in August 2009 and May 2010.

In total, 1750 new Mitsubishi Outlander ACTiV vehicles will be made available to Australian customers.

The Mitsubishi Outlander has lost ground in the sales race so far in 2011. Mitsubishi has sold 2906 this year, down from 3608 over the same period in 2010. The result is a loss of about 20 percent in the healthy compact SUV segment, which is up overall by almost five percent.

The Outlander’s compact SUV market share has decreased from 8.1 percent to 6.2 percent year-to-date.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi Motors Australia confirmed an all-new Outlander was scheduled to go on sale locally in late-2012. At that time, a long-awaited diesel engine is expected to join the line-up.

2011 Mitsubishi Outlander ACTiV manufacturer’s list prices (excludes government and dealer charges):

  • FWD manual – $28,990
  • FWD CVT – $31,490
  • AWD manual – $33,240
  • AWD CVT – $35,740
  • AWD CVT seven-seat – $37,690
