2011 Volkswagen Passat CC updated with BlueMotion technology

By Tim Beissmann |

The 2011 Volkswagen Passat CC has been updated in Australia with improvements to efficiency coming at no extra cost to customers.

Both models – the Passat CC 125TDI and the Passat CC V6 FSI – now come standard with regenerative braking, while the diesel model also benefits from start-stop engine technology.

The 125TDI now uses 5.7 litres/100km of fuel on the combined cycle and emits 150g/km CO2 (down from 6.3 litres/100km and 166g/km). Engine performance from the 2.0-litre unit is unchanged at 125kW and 350Nm, and 0-100km/h acceleration remains at 8.6 seconds.

The addition of brake energy recuperation to the V6 FSI model takes combined cycle fuel consumption from 10.5 litres/100km to 9.7 litres/100km. Emissions are also significantly reduced from 254g/km to 227g/km. The 3.6-litre V6 petrol continues to produce 220kW of power and 350Nm of torque, with a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 5.6 seconds.

A number of new features introduced to the new Volkswagen Passat sedan and wagon range are also now available in the Passat CC. Buyers can now option in Adpative Cruise Control with front assist and city emergency brake, Park Assist 2 and Lane Assist.

Standard features carried over from the pre-update model include panoramic glass roof, 18-inch alloy wheels, four individual sports seats with Nappa leather upholstery and automatic headlights.

2011 Volkswagen Passat CC manufacturer’s list prices (before government and dealer charges):

  • 125TDI six-speed DSG – $54,990
  • V6 FSI six-speed DSG – $64,990

Why would you buy an ordinary Caprice, when for 5 k less you can get this magnificent vehicle in Diesel?

    • Bent 8 Brigade

Ever sat in the back seat of one of these? Enjoy the chiropractor visit. Anyhow, it’s a VW so it’s only built to (hopefully for the lucky owner) hang together until warranty expires anyway.

      • Jim Sim

Dont lie Bent 8 Brigade, they last 20,000kms if your lucky. Then comes the DSG problems, PCV + EGR valves fail. Numerous switches fail etc etc etc….
But hey! They’re good reliable cars…. Must of missed that memo.

        • Mad Max

Jim, what a load of crap! Do you own a VW? Probably not. More likely a VN lowered so the fuel tank hits the ground on rough roads with a set of white walls! So the new VW’s are unreliable? Well sorry but according to the European and US magazines that I look at when traveling overseas, no they are not. Then the same base engines (in different tune), switch gear, transmissions (except Audi) suspension etc are fitted to Audi’s, Skoda’s, Seat’s VW’s to name just a few. VW build millions of cars all over the world and don’t seem to have any major quality or reliability issues with their new range of cars. Sure in the past maybe, but so have Holden and Ford but these days they are also reliable. Just because somebodys brothers cousins aunts neihbour had a problems with her 96 Golf doesn’t mean its a problem.

          • MPS_BNE

Wouldn’t somebody’s brothers cousin, also be their cousin?

          • Jim Sim

Madmax, And what do you own? A VW golf that requires injectors every 20,000kms weather it be a diesel or petrol? Or handbrake switches, or cracking dash panels?
Or maybe you own a Golf R, that has multiple DSG problems or diff problems or coil spring problems? Or maybe its manual and requires a new gear box at a mere 30,000kms?
Or perhaps its one of those beautiful VW EOS’ that leaks water into the cabin like a siv? Or EGR fails and lets exhaust gas into the cabin?
And dont get me started on the Caddys, Transporters or Passats.
Audi’s, Skoda’s and Seat’s? You must be one of those people who surf the internet and thinks just because he read it from there it must be true. Face it, they are all junk.

      • F1MotoGP

This Passat is more like a 4 door coupe. Headroom compared to sedan at the back is 3 cm lower.

    • Hung Low

Fuel economy and cars aside, why would you want a diesel over a 6.0 V8?

The Caprice would be the better cruiser, no doubt, the Passat a better city car!

      • Hung Low

I should point out, I am talking about the Passats diesel over the Caprice V8!

    • Shak

Why are you comparing two cars that cater for very different markets. if you are going based solely off of price, then why not compare a Golf R to a Holden Berlina, they are almost the same price.

  • laurie

Makes the new C-Class MB C250 CDi a bargain, what kills VW price are options

    • Peter

Yes, with the 6 cyl petrol it is around $70K before you get one you’d want to take home, and I thought it was a pretty unimpressive drive, surprisingly so given that it looks so good on paper and in the metal. The s60 T6 R-design was an enormously better drive even though it is marginally slower (6.1 against 5.6 claimed, I didnt think the cc was that quick though), much nicer inside, with 5 real seats and good rear legroom and about the same price, though against the s60 was a bigger turning circle.

      • Stoney

you didn’t think it was that quick? show me another 3.6 N/A engine at reasonable value that can crack 100 in 5.6 seconds…. Commodore and even the 4.0 falcon at similar kerb masses sure can’t!

        • Peter

I mean if you drive it (as I did), you wouldnt think it was as quick as is stated, it was quite uninvolving, and felt pretty pedestrian. It certainly didnt feel as though I was driving a quick car at all, not interesting in the least, to me.

  • Car Fanatic

How easy are you to bait Benty? And secondly, how often do you see a car full of adults?

    • Golfschwein

He’s very easy to bait and fun, to boot! :)

    • bangel

Oh nothing caters for five fat bogans off to maccas better than a capricio , thats why they all have saggy back ends after 15k.

      • Smoothcall

Just to clarify – is it the car or the passengers who have the saggy back ends?

    • Bent 8 Brigade

LOL how often do you see a car full of adults. Brainfade comment of the year! Well done!

      • bangel

My point exactly , so the CC caters quite comfortably adults of normal size , fat bogans, stick to your old tech capricio .

  • Dan

    what are the servicing costs?

  • Car Fanatic

Servicing costs for VW Diesels are no more expensive than a Mazda 3 per thousand k’s travelled.

    • http://Frosty Hicks

It’s the euro parts that will hurt your wallet. But generally any service within warranty covers parts.

Just bear in mind the costs when coming out of warranty.

      • Golfschwein

Name a car maker with cheap parts. It’s true you’d never call VW parts cheap, but how much is a replacement 6 speed Commodore transmission? My old VS needed one at 99,000 kms (and Holden made some detailed enquiries about the actual mileage of the failure, as barely 1,000 more kays would have made it my employer’s responsibility, tee hee), so it’s not a purely academic question.

        • http://Frosty Hicks

I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head, but it would be cheaper than the equivalent replacement transmission of a Euro. Even better you can source alternative replacements from scrapyards, especially with Holdens.

I know from previous experience with my old VS, sourcing parts was not an issue. However speaking with friends who own euros, there can be quite an issue locating replacement parts, not to mention cost involvement.

Surely not a coincidence why so many Euros appear just prior to their warranty ending.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to drive a VW, just can’t afford it in the long run. Those that do have the money, all the better. I’ve never had an issue with Holden, and when I have, it’s something I could source and fix myself. Now that’s something that no-one has ever spoken to me proudly about in regards to their Euro – but boy they sure do look shiny.

          • Lovin it….BS

“I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head, but it would be…..” so you can or can’t tell us???

“….coincidence why so many Euros appear just prior to their warranty ending.”
What….there are lots of Aussie, Japanese and Korean cars for sale just prior to their warranty ending.

“….Holden…something I could source and fix myself.”
Just pick it up from the scrapheap…..says alot about the kind of tech involved. OK…a bit harsh about poor old Holden, but seriously, what a lot of BS you just posted.

  • Svelte

This is what the standard Passat should look like, not the dumpy Aurion clone it is now.

    • Stoney

      Whats wrong with having both?

      • Svelte

For starters, the CC is about 15K more expensive

  • Car Fanatic

Hung, why would I chose the Diesel over the V8? Easy, the Diesel CC is 15 Grand cheaper, costs less to insure, Slightly better kitted, far greater resale and less likely to lose me my licence

There you go, five reasons not related to fuel economy. You need more I can give you more.

    • bangel

I would go the government auction and buy a 2 year old crapricio around $25k , all my friends would think iam a gangsta , very cool in black with the underworld .

Most sold to the govt or hire car co’s , no thanks .

      • Captain Nemo

Or you could buy a VeeDud Passat hey Bungel. And keep tray truck drivers in jobs!!

        • bangel

Actually did a deal today on a GTI mk 6 , its sale time on a brilliant car , just look to your right on the screen .

Funny thing is i dont see many cars on tray tops broken down , accidents yes and old VS crummers and AU’s occassionaly , corporal zero.

    • Hung Low

You imbecile, I said “fuel economy and the cars aside”.
Referring to the two power plants!

Do you Golf owners get a LLN program with the purchase of the car?

  • Bent 8 Brigade

Wow you veedud boys sure get defensive easily. Didn’t mean to touch a nerve lol

  • Car Fanatic

Bent, you are obviously on unemployment benefits and therefore don’t see the 97 percent of cars in peak hour from Monday to Friday with 2 occupants and less in them. You might take all your bogan mates to the pub on a Friday night in you 5.0 VK Commodore to spend your government handout, the rest of us have practical cars and work for a living, own houses and unlike you don’t live in housing commission.

    • Bent 8 Brigade

Poor old Can Fanatic, still spruicing the glories of veedud ownership…actually, as I have openly stated on here I drive a Mitsubishi. Guess your comment about me being bitter about Japs and WW2 is a bit redundant now hey? PS own my own house, work fulltime. Enjoy

      • Golfschwein

Have always admired the Colt. Is yours the one with the 4×2 Powershift? Great cars!

        • bangel

HAHA had a girl friend with one of those, 8 gears ,actually fun to drive going up and down all variables , like all mitsi’s she had a dicky water driven choke , smokey and the bandit , and you could watch the cancer eating the body on the move .

  • Car Fanatic

A bits are missing? Well that explains everything. Dreams of owning a V8 as his name suggests, but only when he gets off his P’s and can drive cars currently on his banned list.

Run along son, mummy’s calling you for dinner.

    • bangel

Yer his daily runner is a 1985 magma , mummy’s is VK with a spent8 and a few bits of plastic added to create the illusion of some hysterical HSV or brock rubbish copy .

  • Ian

I guess none of the people here making comments actually have owned a Passat. Pity people comment about things they know nothing about. I do own a Passat and love it. It IS reliable, service costs are average compared to other cars and the 125 diesel has enough performance for our restricted speed limits. I love the economy. We had a trip to Sydney from Melbourne last year. 4 adults on board, the boot full of luggage. Filled up in Melbourne, up the Hume and 3 days of driving around Sydney including a trip to the Blue Mountains. Next day we filled up, went back to the Blue Mountains, another day around Sydney, back to Melbourne and my wife drove the kids to school for 2 weeks before we needed fuel again. We can easily get under 5 litres per 100 ks cruising. Things I dont like are the noisy standard Yokohama tyres and the paint seems to be soft, perhaps that is because we have not had a black car before. Would I buy another one (instead of a Caprice)? yes, in an instant.

  • PeterG

Ian your trip sounds very exciting. If you had a long range fuel tank installed you would never need to get out of the car and could go to the Blue Mountains and back till the end of time on one tank of fuel.
You gotta hand it to VW they really know their target market.

  • Steve

Presume the CC is still a 4 seater with no 5 seat option??

    • Golfschwein

Steve, I think the 5 seater option became available in Europe recently, but not here.

  • MattLaB

That interior is no match for that sexy exterior.

  • Car Fanatic

Ian, the firstchance you get, put Continentals on it. I replaced my Golf’s Goodyears with Conti’s and noticed a slight difference in road noise and wet weather grip.

  • Car Fanatic

Who buys just an engine Hung? I gave you five reasons other than fuel economy, now build a bridge. You lost

  • maple leaf

these come with unlimited kms warranty for 3 years. Just get rid of it near warranty expiry. so reliability is a non issue.

  • http://audi-a1.us Audi A1

That is smart, economy and very comfortable car. Really love VW cars and think that they are cheap, comfortbale and very good looking. In all the cases I prefer this car-builder.

  • Kadmow

Do the maths….  fuel saved versus cost of ownership….
In the long run the more expensive higher tech euro car will cost more.  But then along the way “you” have the pleasure of driving a slightly better finished car and experiencing the anger of Aussie bogans who feel that anyone who drives a european (new) car is a w**k*r.

Thats the price to pay for driving a yuppie car…

But if you really need to drive in Australia, now just the city and Hume Highway   better to have a proper Aussie car which any mechanic in the bush feels comfortble dealing with, avoiding the need to have a tow back to Sydney for the dealer to fix every time it needs a new ‘fanbelt’.

Also Euro cars are great in Europe, here they do crack rattle and fade faster than Aussie cars.
(PS, I do own and drive both local and imported cars….)
