Thing is with GME up for sale and our government not joining the negotiations with the germans as yet will it be built in blighty? And wil the new 170 mpg Ampera which is on the same chassis be built here?

What a fantastic looking little hatchback, I love these little things it looks great. just driving one of these would make me feel yopung again, maybe the 18 year olds wont mind me cruising past Toorak college in my nifty pink holden astra. Despite me being 55 i can still look young. Does anyone know any good suppliers of head polish for my bald head? I thuink driving such a manly beast would be so much more practical than my 1993 80 series Toyota Landcruiser. But finnaly does it have fishing rod holders i can mount on the bumper bar like the landcruiser did. ANyway im waiting with much anticapted anticipation for my flash as micheal Jackson 2009 Holden Barine CRDI Diesel. BRING IT ON, in Pink……

Myke the astra will still be in Oz and id say holden would replace the epica with the isignia due to terrible sales.

I’d say that the GCI isnt the way it would turn out. Well i hope not because it doesnt look that good.

It looks like an evolution of the previous model.

Good news is it apparently ditches the torsion beam rear end. So it’ll drive better.

Isn’t that more important than how it looks?

Old Mate, am I correct in guessing that the best Astra days were the TS? I had a SRi about 3 years ago which was a beauty. They were better looking than the current one and the 2.2 litre was a peach.

I see the current Astra hasn’t fired even with the steady addition of 3 doors, turbos, diesels, SRis, wagons and so on. The carry-over 1.8 probably hindered more than anything even though it hasn’t been available here for a while now.

Don’t distress with the CGI image. It’s gotta be better in real life than flogging Vivas and Barinas.

I’m a new car salesman at a holden dealership up in North Qld and I must say that i can’t wait for my selling skills to be tested out bigtime once this monstrosity..this..this rubbish looking thing lol. I’ll have my work cut out for me because this car won’t do me or my co-workers any favours or make it easy…jeez.

From what I understand this is a “world” car so it could be built by Daewoo or Opel?? I think the final styling will be ok, but the engines are carry over jobs and they are already behind the opposition. There are all new engines coming but not in time for the launch.

Maybe Opel have been too busy with Insignia to put enough resources into getting the Astra up to scratch.

At least it will have a decent (proper independent) rear suspension though!

Mmmmm….not much chop compared to the upcoming “Kinetic” themed Focus…If the design is anything like that, it really lacks the wow factor..

Alborz because of the torquey nature/power delivery of the
new wrx it doesnt need a 6 speed box, if it did you would be changing gears just for the sake of it, it wouldnt achieve anything because its got so much bottom end torque it will pull from low in rev range..Because of the more top end power delivery of sti it needs 6 speed to keep turbo on the boil in its power band,also i prefer a proper 6 speed manual over a clutchless half baked manual like the evos anyday…

The new Impreza is a great car, buy it in Manual, the five-speed is a proper gearbox, plus only the turbos need 98 RON fuel.

Subaru has done a great job with the Impreza range, but the WRX really needs a six-speed and the STi will very shortly be begging for something similar to Mitsubishis SST system when the EVOX lands in a few months.

OSU811 – Have driven the 4 speed impreza and was less than impressed …. if real men drive manuals, then what about real men driving v8s? :P

The gear changes in the subaru reminded me of some of the old toyota 3 speed autos – when they used to be a novelty!

AB the impreza doesnt require 98 octane fuel at all! the 2.0l non turbo is reccomended to run on 95 octane but will happily run on std unleaded but will suffer on performance/fuel economy but will run on std all the time if you want, same as astra 95 reccomended but not mandatory..As for the gbox astra is 4 speed too, and you should drive new imp before writing it of because of how many gears it has, it actually drives very well.. besides real men drive manuals lol..
