FG Falcon FPV official power figures
April 14, 2008 by Paul Maric
Our predictions were right, FPV has today released official power figures associated with their new FG FPV range.
Arguably the flagship of the FG FPV range will be the F6 310. Powered by Ford’s turbocharged inline-6 cylinder motor, the engine will produce some 310kW at 5500RPM and a face-altering 565Nm of torque at 5200RPM.
The increase of 40kW over the previous F6 Typhoon will surely make this one of the quickest Australian passenger cars on the market. Getting this power to the ground though could be an issue.
Our previous drive of the BF FPV Typhoon revealed that the car’s 270kW was reaching the limits of the tyre’s adhesion at the peak end of the rev range. At a recent lunch though, one of Ford’s leading V888 Supercar drivers confirmed to CarAdvice that grip “wouldn’t be an issue.”
At the other end of the ring, the FPV GT will feature an upgraded version of its 5.4-litre BOSS unit. An increase of 13kW places the GT at 315kW at 6500RPM, while producing an impressive 551Nm of torque (yes, just 1Nm more torque than HSV’s new LS3 motor).
To achieve the F6’s extra power, Ford engineers have used a strengthened piston design, along with an increase in intercooler size and greater boost. Ford’s Rod Barrett has said:
“The F6 is an amazing car with performance equal or better to many European sports cars, but at a fraction of the price. Those who enjoy taking their vehicles to track days are going to really benefit from this car.”
CarAdvice looks forward to taking Mr Barrett’s comments to heart once the FPV range is released to the public in June.

Rod Barrett heaps a ton of praise on the F6. In a wheels interview he described the F6 as phenomenal, but his comments about the GT are more subdued. I wonder if the supercharged Shelby could be plugged into the Falcon? The F6 is clearly the FPV champion and this car really does sound exciting – “Better or equal to many European sports cars”. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that this is a family cart and if Barrett’s comments are accurate (I believe they are)then Ford Australia can be credited with a fantastic achievement. As for the new V6, I’m confident that this new engine will exceed expectations. I read in one of the mags that it will produce 331 KWs!! And apparently Ford have developed or are developing an engine that will reduce Fuel consumption by around 20 percent.
thats wierd hsv, wheels have gotten a f6 to 5.2 in normal conditions. the fastest ford falcon ever(pre fg)
“Ford isn’t competing just with Holden anymore it’s competing with Mazda MPS and Golf GTI. It’s not a two horse race”.
Julian, ford and Holden (SS, HSV) and Ford (F6, FPV, XR6T) are in different categorys compared to the VW Golf GTi and Mazda MPS. Completely different! Your talking two little four cylinder turbo hatches.
Wheelnut,
How come holden and HSV can’t say its a update in the range when upping output and extra’s such as Xeon lights, instead of making a series 2 which causes bad resale?
HSV W427 640NM, 370kw, fastest stock Australian street-legal car EVER…
fords are awesome, made in australia mate. who said abos where dumb. im one big fat arse abo ford fan. all abos drive fords
abos rule, fords rule! go hsv
It’s fine to have all the power but putting it down to the road is what counts, maybe the F6 can’t get the power down as good as the GTS.. Maybe its the MRC suspension or maybe the fact the GTS has bigger rubber..
mmmmmmmmmmmm,Henry the NEW F6 goes round their test track faster than the old Phoon by 6 sec from memory ,look out!!!!!!!!F6 WILL RULE FOR FPV HELL SOMETHING HAS TOO!
Duck U a member of Forum? PM Wheelnut if you need to?Hes off for the night………not on me unfortunately! mmmmmm 7th May he will be though!yeah haaaaaaaaaaa
HSV RULE
correct me if im wrong but… the w427… with the 370kW… isnt it expected to cost $140,000 + ? Whereas the XR6T is gona be under 50k?
Cant hide the fact the falcons run on smaller engines… and always generally have when it came to v8s
in correction to my above comment, even tho the w427 is expected to pull 4.7s 0-100… so its faster… the xr6t is nearly 1/3rd its price… and the f6 will be what.. 70grand cheaper? and if that puts out times similar, equal or faster than the w427 then honestly why the fark would u wana go for the w427… 7 litre engine? thats just stupid
All of Ford models is going to kick asss A/C on or off,, they will have to load them up with passengers and sacks of spuds in the boot to help the competition catch up or gain any respect…
Go Ford, Number 1 again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Um K-Dog what are you talking about?
Quote”HSV W427 640NM, 370kw, fastest stock Australian street-legal car EVER…”
Whats so stock about it? Don’t you think the price tag indicates its hardly stock………..and what do you class as stock, straight off the factory floor, thats stock!
I mean if ya going to talk grunt have a look at what Etheridge Ford and Nizpro are doing at the moment.
1300nizpro.com.au I will be interested in the cost when completed .
A GT-HO was in the makes for the FG FPV’s but was ditched.
Pity that :(
Duck – it doesn’t really matter whether or not a car company calls a car which looks almost the same as the previous model: an update; a facelift; series 2..
Because most people will always go for the latest newest model as they believe it to be better than the others [not always the case] Therefore; the impact on resale of all superceded models will be the same
Even if the change is something as insignificant as going from 16 inch wheels to 17s
I mean the fact that they decided such slight [usually cosmetic] changes were necessary is virtually admitting “we didn’t get it quite right with the first model so we made some changes – hope you like it”
Its the same when Microsoft release “patches” for various windows programs
These changes also allow the car companies to see what features etc are popular with customers as the car evolves inot what will become the next new model..
I read in the latest issue of Motor that the V8 in the Coupe 60 Concept car has DOD [although Holden have called it something different] and it will be available when the VEII is released later this year
Atomic SSV……………na it wasn’t! that’s in the pipeline still but after 2010!
Fancy seeing you here lover!Hang on your not here……cause if you were I doubt we would be here.Confused?????
Apparently Holden HSV dyno-test there cars with all auxillaries such as Air Con Head Lights ICE System etc turned on which drains power from the engine – whereas
Ford FPV dyno thier cars with the auxillaries switched off
Therefore; when Holden/HSV swithc the auxillaries off their Kw readout increases slightly
The source i read BM said that it was in for BA and BF but didnt happen.
The GT 40th Anniversary was going to get the super roo badges but didnt due to the cost of them.
And that the GTHO was going to be tryed again with the FG with the Boss being supercharged for 400kw+ and gain all the superoo badges + more.
Add to the above post of mine.
After 2010 it will be interesting to say the least.
Hey Attomic I replied to you but got moderated???????No idea why? Ill check with the guys on that one……..no swearing in it?Thought it may have been the word H O but put GT in front of it and got done again?
Oh ok.
Maybe a double post somewhere? *confused*.
FPV vs Hsv and now GOLF GTI and Mazda Mps…. What ever…lol sorry about FPV AND HSV are above these 2 cars
i think it should be more FPV vs HSV vs EVO X vs WRX STI… these cars are a lot more closer with the EXO and WRX winning the handling while FPV and HAS win the power and straigth line speed… plus FPV and HSV are far far more comfortable cars inside…. i think it would be great to see F6 vs GTS vs Evo X vs STI R-spec competing againest each other in a test… i thing it would be very interesting to see that for shore… does the F6 have the power, grip, drive out of corners and handling to compete with the EVO and STI around a race track???
HSV and FPV are starting to compare with Merc and BMW and Audi in PERFORMACE wise and are great BFYB cars…. still dont have the quality finish and reliabilty of the euros yet….
The F6 will be King of the Australian Perfomace cars once again….. and should be able to match the euro better then the HSVs R8 and GTS in the performace stakes.
chop,
have you seen the performance car series before?
its pretty much the competition that you describe but with the Lotus’s thrown in
Yea… i have… but i want to see how the new F6 goes in it???
Also i wanted to see how they all compare in a controled enviro… in controlled test to see how they all faired….
ohk everyone here is talking about the new falcon and the power figures, and its great to see that for once in a long time ford has gone better than holden, but what do they do just go bigger again, ford are trying to sell cars and to do this they have to match the holdens, but holdens just wanna be better than the fords, and most of the idiots out there think that just cause holden has bigger numbers that they are so much better!!
seriously holden build your own motors, stop draging them out of the corvettes, sure they powerful and good, but its making the commodore less of an aussie car, and i know i will get shit about fords and german gear box and all different stuff, but really think about it.
haha another thing, the olf ba/f F6 in really life could keep up with the VE GTS, simply because the turbo is so much more forgiving, and its too hard to get the perfect launch. so wats the F6-310 gonna be like..
PS: they should keep the I6, but come 2011 look out for the twin turbo v6!!!!!!!!!
Why is it that everyone is bagging out the GT in this part of the forum??? As far as I’m aware, a jump from 290 to 302 – 315 all in less then a year is a damn good effort. And on the base of it all… it’s basically 290 – 315, which is still an increase of 25 kilowatts. Maybe it’s just me but, the FG GT is a damn fine looking, extremely powerful car. As for the Typhoon/Tornado, anyone bagging that, leave the forum now! You don’t deserve to call yourself human if you can find a way to bag it. The Typhoon in many ways is a massive history mark in the pages of all vehicles!
Resale Value…. Ford For The Loss
Resale on ANY new car nowadays for the loss!!!
There is so much competition and cheap alternative (albeit commensurately cheap quality!) now that ANY new car has relatively poor resale.
Drive did it’s first test of the car yesterday. Bit disappointing they only recorded 0 – 100 in 5.3 seconds. Having said it beats the new 6.2 commie which recorded 0 -100 in 5.6 seconds. According to Rod Barret, the manual F6 has the goods to go under the five second barrier. Here’s hoping!!!!
And HSVs advanced development strategy to counter FPV is:
‘Chuck on some more Cubes’
Looks like they are clutching straws
