Reckless1, the strong Aussie dollar is a bit of an illusion, caused mainly by the weak $US and yen. If you look at the $AU against the euro you will see that it has been pretty stable for years. Around 4 months ago it hit a bit of a high of around 61.5 euro cents to the $AU but now it's sitting at around 59.5 so there's not much to really take advantage of.

In terms of the Golf, I just wish VW would give us more 3-door models, especially the TDi.

Brendan, I've been wondering what's going to get the chop, too. Hopefully, the cost-cutting lined up for the Mk VI is derived from factory and manufacturing processes in the main, as VW knows that if the the buyers see or feel something icky, they'll be disappointed.

I read too that the rear suspension may be in for some simplification. That's fine, so long as it feels the same or better. My Mk V rides like a Falcon with its multilink set-up, so regressing would be sad.

Maybe it's things like the 3 position door stays with good old fashioned hinges like a HK Holden that are going to get the chop.

Yes VAG certainly present a lot of options when it comes to engine choices which is great to see.

I've read that the Golf Mk VI has been quite a cost cutting exercise as the Mk V apparently takes almost twice as long to produce than others in its segment. So may be saying good-bye to some nice features like independent rear suspension ala Civic Type R. Will be interesting to see at the end of this year

One thing u cannot say bad about VW is the amount of models and combos on offer.Something for everybody...

Not me though, i will pass on this Czech/SouthAfrica built *German* vehicle.

Paying a premium in that sector i expect MadeInGermany

Anyway, new series VI Golf is out end of the year, hold off your orders guys!

Cheers

I think these are replacements rather than special editions.

The special drive away pricing in the first 3 months of this year was to run out the old stocks.

Is it a response to the strong AU $ to add more kit for the same money?????
