2008 TRD HiLux specifications
April 8, 2008 by George Skentzos
Toyota has released official specifications for its second addition to the TRD range – the TRD HiLux, the high performance version of Australia’s favourite ute.
Derived from the double-cab 4×4 version of the standard HiLux, the TRD model adds an intercooled Eaton supercharger to the standard 4.0-litre quad-cam V6 petrol engine.
Maximum power has been increased by 28.5 percent to 225kW whilst peak torque has risen by 20.4 percent to 453Nm at just 3400rpm.
More than the equivalent maximum torque of 376Nm produced by the standard HiLux is delivered from just above idle all the way to 5700rpm on the TRD model.
Zero to 100km/h performance jumps to just 7.2 seconds, whilst retaining fuel-economy figures comparable with the standard HiLux at just 12.9 litres per 100km.
Similar to the TRD Aurion, the supercharged HiLux will be available in two model grades – 4000S and 4000SL.
Both grades come standard with twin front airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, remote central locking and DataDot security.
The TRD HiLux also has specially calibrated monotube Bilstein shock absorbers and 17-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres.
Other enhancements include larger front brake rotors and calipers, a TRD body kit, sports bar and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever.
TRD HiLux 4000S is priced at $59,990 and the 4000SL at $64,990. The only option is metallic paint at $300.
CarAdvice will be reviewing the new TRD HiLux shortly.

Another very expensive appliance by Toyoda TuRD, $65,000 is way over priced for a dressed up Hilux, its been proving that Ford build tougher trucks the chassies are more rigid, engines stronger, panels thicker, the list goes on and on….
TRD = “prado” type wankers with superchargers.
Only 225KW & 443NM from 4 LITRES!?!?!?!
Rear disc brakes!?!?!?
Call themselves “engineers”!?!?1?
Actually – that’s bloody fantastic – any more power and they will start killing people, but hopefully they will cap themselves before they can hurt anyone else.
It’s a waste of time. As others have said, it’s only going to appeal to a niche market and @ $ 65k it’s grossly overpriced, and under-engineered.
Interior is disgusting – exterior try hard.
And yes dingo… you keep using sales as your defense… someone posted
“Hey Dingo, rumour is Toyota outsold Porsche and Ferrari combined. What does this mean?”
You nicely glossed over that one ;)
What Toyota needs is a true performance car, and souping up what’s generally an off-roader, and the family Aurion in that regard, just won’t cut it. The HiLux TRD may be quick, but it’s no handler.
Fred yet Holden and Ford souping up a Falcon and Commodore does cut it? They aernt trying to crack the performance car market, that is for Lexus. The TRD brand is merely filling a gap between Lexus and Toyota.
Don’t really believe there a ‘gap’ between Toyota and Lexus. They are two manufacturers selling the same boring stuff, so they want to release another boring brand. Ho hum TP
I never said anyone was going broke?
Hope u and your 65k Hilux are very happy together.
Could buy one cash tomorrow if I was so inclined but then I don’t like being ripped off.
65 k for a Hilux.
No wonder his wife left him as she obviously had more sense.
LOL
see hilux trd add.
Lexus sell boring cars now No Name. But I bet the ugly and when compared to Lexus underpowered vehicles Ford and Holden sell are exciting? Ive seen some real fairies around here, but I think you top it.
Who knows what a Toyota Celsior is? I’ll tell you. It’s what Lexus LS400s were sold as in Japan before the Lexus brand was introduced there many years after the rest of the world was given it.
The SC400 was a Toyota Soarer coupe. The first IS250 was also a Toyota, although I forget what they called it.
So, please pardon my cynicism for the Lexus brand “name”. No Name’s right. The only gap between the two brands is an entirely artificial one.
golfschwein the first is250 was never a toyota where did you get that one it was always a rear drive lexus and realcars one should do there home work buddy! go into a toyota dealer and try and buy a trd hilux they are out till august i should know i have a mate who has ordered one! you would pay 60 odd for a shit box hsv ute that you can’t even take fishing them again do you even have enough to pay your broadband bill!!!
Get a grip lads,
Im looking buying a new ute , sorry but the BT-50 comes up trumps for us. We dont know much about cars, as this is our 1st new one, and have taken the Hilux for a run but for comfort, power and handling its the Mazda. Sometimes you just have to goes with, what feels good at the the time,
Cheers
