Toyota Australia has just announced the release of the Toyota Aurion White Limited Edition model. The car is based on the Toyota Aurion Prodigy but features more than $3000 in added extras.

The first noticeable enhancement is the Crystal Pearl white paintwork which covers the exterior and Sportivo bodykit and boot spoiler. Contrasting the paint is a set of 17-inch shadow-finish, five-spoke alloy wheels, tinted headlight surrounds and clear taillights.

Inside, the limited edition is decked out in a new dark grey and Greige interior with leather highlights, coloured stitching and ‘AURION’ embroidered seats. Passengers are the comforted by the addition of an electronic, tilt/slide sunroof and multifunction trip computer. The driver also gets a premium three-spoke steering wheel.

On top of these added extras, the Aurion White also comes with everything the Prodigy model offers, such as a USB/MP3 stereo with auxiliary compatibility, dual-zone climate control, six airbags and stability/traction control, and the 3.5-litre, 200kW V6 engine representing a fuel economy rating of 9.9L/100km.

Just 250 Toyota Aurion White Limited Editions will be sold. Prices start at $44,990.

  • what you’re all thinking

    Whitegoods Edition

    • Joker

      It’s a Fancy Fridge!

      • Mick

Sounds great, can I have mine with a Fisher and Paykel logo on the front instead of a Toyota badge?

        • MattW

Be a change from the Holdens with Chevy badges lol

          • Ford Man

            Whitegoods!

Why would you pay that much when you can get a Falcon with the same features for $34000

          • lahwis

because it won’t fall apart in 3 years time

          • Ford Man

You should tell the taxi drivers that. Falcons going strong for 500,000kms. You obviously know something they dont.

          • Dan

Ford Man, taxi drivers don’t need to be told, it’s very obvious. All Falcodore taxis I’ve been in were falling apart, I’m fairly certain they see it too and know it haha

          • Davos

My mate owns a Ford taxi.
He is fixing things every week because things keep breaking.

          • Ragh

FORD – Fix Or Repair Daily!!!

      • Thema

        Grandpa will love it.

    • Michael

      Now with 50% more boring.

  • Ethan

This car could have been the rebirth of the Cressida… instead it is front wheel drive, though it suits the audience it intends to target, it could have been so much greater than what it is…

  • save it for the track

The answer to a question no one was asking?? 45k for a Camry v6??? (which is what an Aurion is) JOKE.

    • QAZ

Aurion is bigger than camry in size.

      • Aim

No its not, if you want a v6 canry you get the aurion, its exactly the same except the fron rear lights and engine

  • You

If it were called White Edition it would sound really racist, but White Limited Edition, not so much

  • PEPSI

Australia seriously needs the Lexus ES

    • Pittsburg

Why, when you can have an Aurion for $40k less?

    • Phil

All you have to do is buy the top spec Aurion (Presara?) and replace the Toyota badges with Lexus.

    • Dan

      FAIL!

The ES was a joke. Thank god they canned it. It was an embarassment to Lexus.

      • Phil

It wasn’t canned, just discontinued in Australian market. It still sells overseas. I’m surprised they didn’t bring it back here as it did get reasonable sales. After all, the Lexus RX350 is now their best selling model here and it is just a reskinned Toyota Klugar.

The ES/RX/LX cars themselves might be a joke, but as a business case they’re extremely smart. Almost zero development costs by just using a already developed Toyota design and a massive profit margin.

        • Benny

I wouldnt say zero developement costs because lexus is just a branch of toyota, so when you look at it its more so a combined developement cost for the lexus franchise and toyota, as they are all developed by the same company

  • Demonaz

I’ve always thought the aurion is a handsome large sedan. Looks even better in this version. Seriously don’t know what the haters are on. Commodore looks like a raised wedge and falcon looks like a dodgy taxi with too much overhang…

    • Shane

its only a Camry with “stick on bits” to make it look different. I would gladly have a Commodore or Falcon over this.

The Aurion has no real character, the Commodore and Falcon have styling characters and traits that run through previous generations.

      • Dan

Traits? You mean like leaky engines, rattling and generally poor interior quality, mis-aligned panels, etc?

        • Davos

Dan – Its funny because its true.

      • Tim

Chose this between this and a new ss. Commodores and falcons lose their value waaay quicker than these will. Handling is 100 times better, finish is better, ever heard how rattly a new commodore is? This is coming from a big holden fan which was hard to take.

  • toxic_horse

Can we please move on from the whitegoods analogy. its getting really old can we come up with a new one please !!!!

    • QAZ

The haters just like to bag, but they have no creativity.

  • toxic_horse

hi Car Advice. Why have my comments been moderated?

  • Ken

What’s with the 17″ rims and Sportivo body kit. Toyota have absolutely no idea on making a car look half decent.
A limited edition with a Sportivo Body kit should have a set of 19″ x 8″ rims with something like a 245 x 35 tyre and a lowered ride height of at least 25mm. Make the car look half decent and it won’t be so boring.
Just love Toyota’s and their poor choice of styling. 17″ Shadow finish, WOW. LOL.

  • Nick K

Man this is a dull car… May cause some excitement at the bowls club though.

  • Jonno Smith

Fuel prices @ $1.40 – $1.50/litre are killing the market demand for big 6 cylinder cars. Don’t see the selling point for bringing out this ‘White Limited Edition’ Aurion @ $45k. ADR fuel consumption of 9.9l/100km = 11~12l/100km in real driving conditions. Competition is coming out with more fuel efficient cars @ a price slightly more the half of this Aurion eg Holden Cruze Series II 1.4 Turbo. Toyota seems like losing their way in the marketplace.

    • Azza

This is like saying the fuel prices will hurt the commodore and falcon, and toyota corolla, mazda 3 and other light cars will be topping the monthly sales.
I agree with the price of LE Aurion, bit too much, and wheels are too small.

    • Tim

Real world fuel figure for me are 8.6 – 8.7 l/100km every day, and I have a heavy right foot. Done a couple of long trips, Cairns to Canberra and back and Cairns to Melbourne, and got 7.3 -7.4 l/100km. Don’t know what they were doing during testing but they must have been thrashing the s*** out of it.

  • lolwut

    - It looks good, I’ve always said Aurion would look good with the kit minus the Spoiler.

    - The 17 inch shadow coloured wheels is FAIL, Aurion is a medium-large sedan, so minimum 18 wheels, and for it to work well with this limited edition, it should of been 19×8.

    - The posters at the start calling this a Fridge, well it happens that your Fridge is your most reliable and best value for money appliance, you look after it, it’ll last 10-15 years easy. And I would love to see you’re faces when Ford and Holden finally makes their big sedans Front Wheel Drive, what would be your criteria for a White Goods now?

    - 45K is a bit high, should of been 40K max.

    - And to that saying a Lexus ES is an Aurion Presara with different badge, you fail too.

    • lolwut

      correction, “18 inch wheels”

    • Shane

Not as reliable as you think, I have a Aurion for a company car and it has had more issues than my 5 year old FPV (the weekender). Particular issues with suspension noises which the dealer told me was “being reviewed” and a “common” complaint. Also, fogging of the front light when it rains or if the car gets washed, dash rattles, the cup holder flap was stuffed from day 1 and the CV’s have always been noisy which I believe will fail very soon. The car has only 30,000kms.

      Glad its not my car…

      • lolwut

exactly its company car, I have a white camry company car too and I dont take care of it nor drive it as if I am paying for it.. hence it’ll be crappier quality compared to if I actually bought it.

the fogging of the lamps have been raised on some forums, but its like 1 in every 200+ cars, and is the dealers replaces it under warranty so I dont see the problem, if you were on of the unlucky ones you get a BRAND new Lamp.

      • Aurion

I had an Aurion hire car one time with 10,000kms on it. A piece on the air vent snapped off under light pressure. It also had some suspension noises.

    • Phil

So whats different between a Lexus ES350 and a Aurion Presara other than the badge and minor cosmetics? They have a identical engine, identical transmission, identical chassis……well there is the price tag that is different…and the profit margin..

Dont worry about the price tag, Aurions and Camrys sell well below retail. $5000 discounts are around the norm (well below Falcon/Commodore discounts which are more like $10,000!).

  • Shane

Meh….seriously for that price you can walk away with a Commodore SS or XR6 Turbo…

    • Dennis

I think Toyota have lost the plot.

Aurion has been a really poor performer since day one and now they have a special edition at 45K? LOL

No chance Toyota!!! You can get a Series II SV6 or Berlina International for 37K drive away!!!

      • Phil

Its not really poor performer. It’s just a Camry V6 and if you singled out V6 versions of previous Camrys you’d find the sales are fairly consistant.

You will find the actual RRP price of the SV6 or Berlina is about 43K plus on road costs. Like the Commodore, Camry/Aurions sell under heavy discounts so don’t take any notice of the RRP. Dealers will normally discount a Aurion by around $5K.

  • paulb

Good to see Toyota is doing something new with the Aurion.

  • Hogsta

Don’t companies only release limited editions when they have a quite month and stock has built up in the yard???? Prob after quite sales period after the tasami????

    • K20A

      What’s tasami?

      Tsunami – tidal wave
Tatami – fresh straw mat :)

  • K20A

Nice to see the interior is ‘decked out’ in Greige interior. Greige = greying beige.

    • Falcon_Crazy

You are lucky not to fall asleep at the wheel when driving a Camry or Aurion – ive never been surrounded by such a bore…the plastic…

      • lolwut

You’re getting use to the rattling and rough suspensions of the Falcon.

I suppose the SMOOTH and REFINED ride gets the drivers comfortable enough.

        • Ford Man

The Falcon is no less comfortable than a Borion. I suggest you do your research first. It has a number of components which are used by premium brands such as Mercedes and BMW, including Sachs shock absorders, 6 speed ZF transmission and variable ratio steering. It is an underrated vehicle. Its I6 engine is not only a great engine (which embaresses the Borion in terms of useable torque) but its Australian designed AND built.

          • lolwut

The Falcon’s underbody has been carried over (most of it) from the 90s.
The components you say that are shared is BS, Ford manufactures some components for Merc, BMW… but different SPEC and different material grade. Thats normal in this industry.

The current Ford G6E is nicely featured, but the look of it is just appealing to past and current Ford Falcon owners/drivers. It doesnt look American, European, Australian… it has a look that simply appeals to the tribal Ford drivers in Oz. For 10+ years now, Ford always have opted for that look. And its only going to remain that way until they change the underbody of the car, which is going to be HARD if Ford Falcon wants to remain a RWD…. as any new mass sedan produced platforms is likely to be FWD.

          • Ford Man

Underbody? The suspension front and back is relatively new. The components attached to it all as previously pointed out are of a premium grade. Most of it is new for the FG.

If the Falcon’s ‘underbody’ is from the 90′s yet is regarded as the best handling vehicle in the segment, then what era is the Toyota Boring underbody from? The 80′s Camry? That was about the only decent Camry that existed, back in a time when at least Toyota didnt tart up their cars and sold them for what they are, whitegoods.

          • Tomas79

Actually last large car compero on this site, didnt rate the falcon FG as the best handling car in it’s segment.

      • dailydriver

The Omega Commodore rates highly also in the “boring interior” department.

  • Shak

I see they brought back the Selleys No Gaps Bodykit.

    • Ford Man

They put a body kit on to make it “look” like it has some kind of sporty credentials but the fact as it drives like a barge on wheels if pushed hard.

      • lolwut

My friend has an Aurion Sportivo, he changed the suspensions to coil overs, put 19 x 9 wheels, lowered it and it LOOKS and Drives better than any of its competitors near its price range… he probably spent $4000. Since he got a $5000 discount anyways, he is up $1000 and he got the car to look good and drive well.

The Aurion and Camry are 1 suspension system change away from being decent to good drivers…..

I understand why they dont design it like that from factory because the stock suspensions are designed to last to the life of the vehicle, might not be as responsive, but durability is cranked up. Whilst a sporty, race type suspension setup will be driven like one and durability is not guaranteed to last as long… but for the people willing to spend extra to “customize” their Aurions and Camrys, it really does change its driviability…. from 5/10 to around 7.5/10, depending on your setup.

  • California

You Australians must be stupid if you think a ES is the same as a Camry, it may be on the same platform but that’s as far as it goes.. The ES is a very fine and comfort oriented, hence why it sells so well in USA.. It’s also very quiet, refined and very luxurious.. Kind of like the small brothers LS..

    • K20A

We’re not stupid, but it’s just not to our taste. We’ve had the previous generation here in the market in the early to mid 00s. It’s the only FWD Lexus, it looks awkward with overly long front overhang, chintzy tail lights and Camryish overall body shape. The interior is also very generic, hasn’t got enough differentiation, unlike the GS/IS. No doubt it’s queiet, refined and luxurious (is there any Lexus that isn’t?). Sales figures speak for itself.. it was so unpopular that TMCA had to pull it from the market. It was a good decision too, because to be honest that was the only dud in their line up.

      • lolwut

        K20A

What do you mean “OUR TASTE”??

        You mean your TASTE!!

Australia is actually SO diverse… you have your BOGANS and HOONS and FORD/HOLDEN Tribes who drive Holden and Fords.

Then you have your YOUNG, YUPPIES, same people who are obsess about iPhones and such, driving GOLF GTIs, GOLF anything!. Or for the YUPPIES with higher salaries, they drive Audi A3s, A4s or your Entry base BMWs and Mercs.

Then you have your A to B market, who simply cares about everyday driving instead of performance… this is easily the BIGGEST market. They buy cars for a purpose. A city driver?… Corolla/Mazda3 etc…. Tradie with 4WD needs?…. Hilux/Triton etc…. Reliable, cheap to maintain medium/large sedans?, NOT sporty but practical and efficient….. Camry/Aurion, Mazda6, i45 etc…..

Australia is diverse when it comes to car taste, due to the many many many backgrounds/ethnicity and the many various CULTURE mixed in.

So don’t speak for “US, AUSTRALIAN”.

        • K20A

          Hi lolwut

I see you are quite passionate with your Toyotas and Lexus, and I’m fine with that. Sorry if I offended you with my post above. The point I’m trying to make is that the ES300 was not a well loved car during its short life here. As sales figures will speak for itself. Please check the VFACTS figures if you doubt this.

I’m not trying to generalise Australian drivers, merely speaking on behalf of the majority.. I perceive Australian drivers to be more demanding, more critical on handling and steering (read: inherent ‘sportiness’) of a car than our fellows over the ocean. However, we are not as demanding as the Europeans when it comes to this. To put it simply, we’re in the middle of the two extremes.

If you are a keen automotive enthusiast like me, you would know that a lot of cars here are setup (suspension tuned) closer / to mimic European models. On top of that, car companies do further tuning to suit the Australian road condition.

What you describe above are customer segmentations in respect of brand preference and body styles. I was referring more to how the ES300 is too much of an ‘American car’ to suit Australian drivers. Then again there was the GS if you’re after more sporty.

Bottom line is: ES didn’t sell back then, and probably have a hard time if it were re-introduced here.

    • Flying High

I guess you Ameriguns know all about comfort and cushions. Handling has never been a particular concern.

      • Kj

my dad has got an 2004 Lexus ES300 and it’s such a nice car, it’s very silent, and has loads of luxury features, it’s also very reliable and has more then adequate power..

And guess what my dads company car is a 2010 Commodore and it’s a POS, terrible build quality, ugly, cheap interior and is loud when you drive..

        2004 Lexus ES300 OVER a 2010 Holden commodore!!

    • paulb

Hey California what do you think of the Commodore,Falcon +Aurion. Can they sell in the USA..

    • Phil

What about the engine? What about the gearbox? The ancilarys ? These are also the same.

      • Bimmerc

Let’s be honest, it is credit for Toyota that bring this fine powertrain in their “white goods”. I do appreciate it.

  • filippo

I had to chuckle recently when I was in Thailand and saw that Aurions are sold badged as Camrys.

    • Ford Man

They are fooling Australians and its working. Very sad. Smallest large car Ive ever seen.

      • lolwut

Actually, if you research the Interior of this limited edition is close to presara level, above prodigy, which started at 40K anyways.

The additional body kit, which cost around $3000 believe it not factors in also. Plus the exlusivity factor of having a spoiler less Aurion sports kitted with Chrome Grille!..

They should of used the TRD wheels 19×8.5… and it would of looked SO SO MUCH better.

  • Bob

$45k? Are they for real? When you can pick up a series II SS for about the same or an XR6 50th Anniversary for $10k less?

The only thing I feel bad about is the poor muppets who think buying one makes sense. There’ll be 250 of them sadly.

  • Pamper

lol commodore? Who buys that caveman product? And people who buy Toyota/Camry/Aurion/Lexus will not crossover to the commodore/XR6 etc, different demographia..

    • Ford Man

The G6 is in the same market as the Borion. It is $34k. Aurion is $45k. No matter how much Toyota may want to say they offer a more quality product, it isnt $11k better. This is besides the fact that the I6 matched to the 6 speed ZF mathces if not exceeds the Aurions combination.

      • Phil

Your quoting a Ford sales price against the Aurions RRP. The RRP of a G6 is about 45K too.

  • nickdl

Looking forward to seeing a photo of the ‘Greige’ interior.

  • The Original Stevo

ggfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffsssssssssssssssshggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghsssssssssssfffffffffffffff – uh oh sorry, must have fallen asleep at the keyboard.

    • lolwut

You must of stayed up driving around the city racing anyone off the traffic lights and doing burnouts in public places.

Have some coffee or better yet stop being a HOON.

  • JD

The ES costs 43k in Canada, a comparable market. Aurion rip off

still why is the camry here so expensive

    US: $21k
    Canada: $24k
    AUSTRALIA: $28k

and its made here in VIC

    • Snoopy

everything in Australia is expensive, if the ES350 comes here, it will cost in the $65-75k range..

It’s a very nice car the ES350, I think it’s the top selling luxury car in the US, I know Lexus over there is the top selling luxury brand and Acura and Infiniti outsell Audi in the USA!!

      • Benny

its more expensive here becaus eour shipping tarriffs, GST and LCT push the price up a ridiculous amount, if we didnt have to import so many components from international suppliers, we would be much cheaper

  • Flying High

… I didnt know that Camry’s came in any colour other than white….

    • lolwut

      How much do you know.

    • Flying High

Who let the Camry lovers out of the box?

  • Impeccable

I’ve got to give it to Toyota/Japan, after all the $hit they’ve been through they’ve still come out nicely, GFC, huge unnecessary/false recalls and now a natural disaster..

Even if Toyota loses it’s #1 sales crown to GM in 2011, don’t forget Toyota alone makes twice as much in revenue then the entire GM.. The average Toyota sold is $30000 (including their luxury Lexus mark the average Toyota sold is more like $60000.. Where as the average GM car sold is probably $18000 due to their cars mass cars that cost less then $10000 in china..

  • Blitzkrieg

Why not ask $50,000 for the thing toyota.
If people can’t see it’s overpriced and a rip off at $45,000 surely they wont care or be aware of at forking out an extra 5G to get that toyota feeling.Sad really.

  • chnny

buy a top spec kia optima or a hyundai i45 and with the left over $5000+ go on a world tour looking for osamabinladen, end the trip visiting japan and pray for akio toyoda san…

    • Big

Naa both Kia optima and i45 I didn’t like, the interior were too messy, the turbo and the engine was just too loud and the head space at the back was too little..

    • Devil’s Advocate

Obviously you haven’t been watching the news over the last couple of days chnny! ;-)

  • Moe

    XR6 Turbo FTW………

  • hate or love me

whats the point of this car. Did anyone at toyota put any thought into the project before creating this car. Ford, holden really don’t care about them. lets concentrate on value for money, performance + handling and prestige. I don’t see the attractiveness in this car, I can’t exactly say I dream of it to the extent I want to own one cause its rubbish. Add on parts shows lack of creativity, sure $3000 extra please spare us the $3000 even with no improvements on fuel economy or performance or even a hint to introduce AWD for better driveability. overall crap

    • Benny

new aurion comes out next year mate, a LE isnt a new model, its just a limited variant of whats already there, the fuel economy and performance upgrades come with major model changes not just minor spec changes and facelifts…

  • Jober As A Sudge

Sorry…just fell asleep looking at it!

    • Aurion Kick Ass

Not surprising, all family cars are a bore

  • Al Juraj

How about a Toyota Aurion Handbrake Edition?

  • just bought It

    Interesting comments for you all.

I just bought the Aurion White LE after onwing a ZR Celica 2000 6 speed manual for 12 years from new.

The Aurion is a well finished car, with a pimped interior and moon roof with a wicked paint job.

It looks like an old mans to the novice ,but it absolutely screams down the freeway. Off the lights it would leave the celica for wanting the extra 60Kw.

I paid 40K less trade in on the Celica, so about 30K, which shows dealerships are willing to bargain down.

Sure the Celica looked great, but the Aurion goes like a limo and has the comfort as well. Its powerfully fast with the 200Kw engine and lazy as you like sitting back in the plush leather seats. Its a nice drive.

Its a great car with excellent specs, running costs etc but when you want to flog it…..it hammers.

We also just bought a commodore new and the airconditioner is broken already. Thats the difference bewteen buying Holdens and Fords Vs a TOYOTA. On a TOYOTA everything works and keeps working. Nuff said.

  • Al Juraj

The Celica’s 2ZZ-GE engine has access to supercharging, which did wonders to the Lotus Elise which has the same motor. I was looking to get that particular Celica as a second ride as I want to re-acquaint myself with a proper manual (SST leaves my left foot idle still) and I’ve read nice reviews with handling as well. Can you shed some light with your former ride?

  • Randy

Basically the reason for the Aurion in Australia is that it’s the new 6 cylinder Camry for a younger audience with the most minor of cosmetic changes; this is the best way to generate new sales with very little engineering costs. (Hence why Toyota never loses in the War financially: They do not take risks that jeopardise budgets).

Due to the GFC or as the rest of the world knows it A RECESSION meaning people are losing (most have lost) their entire lives: house, cars, clothes, boats and their jobs.

This is why the Toyota Avalon was never re-introduced into Australia, the costs involved could not be covered considering how bad the previous model did which was an updated version of the original that failed to get Camry buyers to upgrade to a modern day Cressida.

It was a gamble by Toyota Australia & not Toyota Global (Japan) hence why they dipped their toes into this uncharted large family car territory with a tight budget.

If the GFC hadn’t happened in 2007 than there would have been 1/5th a chance the current model Toyota Avalon would have been introduced; Toyota is starting to realise that it’s Medium FWD Camry is king here & unless it decides to forget about large front wheel drive sedans in OZ & introduce a Large Rear Wheel Drive sedan to take another very risky gamble with a long forgotten Australian nameplate from the 70′s such as the CROWN or Crown Majesta they could be in very hot water due to the fact that both are completely unknown to those under 40 & the fact that the Crown & Crown Majesta would Cannibalise Lexus sales.

  • Jaydenstarkey

that is going to be my car
