I agree,
CarsGuide seem to have already made up their mind before they even decided to look through a list of cars to pick.

The Aurion is by far the better car on every level, its power figures and fuel economy are almost unbelievable!

Carsguide seemed to almost go out of their way to pick the V8 Calais - allowed them to avoid mentioning the very forgettable large volume side of the new VE (the cynical VE Omega withour air or a full sized spare so it could creep under the 11.0 l/100 km fuel threshold and a reduced sticker price - Toyota would have been given the rounds of the kitchen for this )Not saying it is not a good car but in 2006 the VE Calais is yesterdays thinking. At least the Aurion attempts to move ahead on reduced weight, safety, fuel, power, emissions, equipment - a worthy choice, and Carsguide look a bit silly with their dinosaur.

Haha!
So true, I don't believe it though, not all "aussies" love V8s, sure its got a rich heritage but times are changing, and if the number of XR-6 Turbos on the road are anything to go by, you can tell that some of the old V8 crowd are waking up to the new generation of cars.

Time will tell. The sad thing is that the V8 engines are hardly Aussie, the HSV engines aren't even made here to begin with!

Oh dear. Is it any wonder that technical dinosaurs still roam Down Under? They say love is blind, and I suppose that confirms the fact that Aussies are actually in love with V8s, provided they can claim to be 'Aussie'. No small wonder too that Ford and Holden fight so hard to keep the Europeans and Japanese out of the premier saloon class. Perhaps we should start building oval circuits, then we too can call our premier class the "World V8 Series'.

The V8 calais is nutcase and im glad locally built and designed cars like the calais are given these awards. Overseas cars may be better and more economical, but aussies dont give a rats ass. Big V8's, leather seats and nice exteriors is all we care about....bragging rights.

So of course this should be taken into account for the AUSTRALIAN car of the year.

Im surprised the statesman and caprice didnt even get a mention. Both good value, powerful 270kw v8's, full of luxurious features and without question drives the best in Australia. Handling smooth, rides smooth, seating is incredibly spacious and comfortable and gear changes cannot be felt.
