Why can’t Ford Australia put the supercharged V8 in the GT? Their 6 is continuing to make the V8 look lame. Boy racers may want blow off valves and whooshing noises, but the premium top of the range model should be the v8, oh and it should also be the fastest! 4litre boosted to the knackers producing 310kW is not a recipe for reliability, economy will be shocking, and it will be faster than the v8! What are they doing? Ford US have no problems using the right powerplant. This continues to be all bad news for a great marque.

According to Wheels Mag MAY2008 The F6 will have 310kw and 565nm and the GT will have 315kw and 545nm.

It’s been no secret for years that the Ford 5.4L is limited by it’s stroke & rod length..Getting it to rev is hard. But the engine loves a bit of forced induction. Most of the aftermarket tuners have only managed around 320kw from N/A..Shame really for what is a good package..

RIP GT the legend does not continue…
The GT has always been the performance king at Ford, and at one time the world for many years.
After seeing the new FPV power figures F6 310kw and GT 315kw Ford has banished the GT to the back blocks.
Once the performance car king that all others looked up to is now a mere shadow of it’s former self..
Looks like HSV is definately getting my money from now on.

The f6 wont come with 310kw. WHEELS mag (april) says that the F6 will have 300kw, while the GT will have 315kw.

im with tonyn Ford has deserted the gt, they see their performance king as the F6. If they didnt the f6 would not be quicker then a GT. Why didnt Holden do the same because they see their V8 as their performance hero’s and dont want to mess with that.
Which is why ford isnt getting anymore money off me, bye bye GT hello GTS.
Those of you who think the GT is going to have over 320kw are kdding yourselves It will be lucky to have over 315kw.

I see enough of these LS1/LS2/L76/L98 day in day out to draw my own conclustion without reading it second hand. Yes, the early LS1’s did have an oil consumption issue, but that was fixed. Think about this, do you really think that Holden would leave a problem they had known about for 7 years, without fixing it? Don’t you think the warranty claim costs would over shadow the fix 10-fold?

I could make a statement about the GT35/40 used on the 4-litre turbos overboosting and destroying impellors, but just because there has been one or two over the few years of production, hardly makes it a production fault.

No doubt HSV can bring a blown this or 7 litre that and they are going to but I for one couldnt care less about the 130-150k market. If they could do it for under 70k id be in but that aint going to happen for years and years yet, look at the price of the base HSV sedan 6.2 317kw…Upto nearly 70k as a base.

This baby for mid 60’s is going to be king!!

This is a very clever marketing ploy by FPV. They will have a high performance turbo 6 which I believe will wipe the floor of the new HSV 317kw unit. The name of the game will be power to weight, and I believe the new turbo 6 from FPV will be the car to beat. You see when the motoring journalists start to test the performance vehicles from HSV and FPV they will test the top shelf stuff of each brand. It’s not a question of V8 against V8 it’s all about who makes the most desirable car and kilowatts and standing quarters plays a big part. FPV said a while a go they will take on HSV head on and this is how it’s going to start. I believe this will force HSV to bring out a 427 which means FPV will install a supercharger to their 5.4litre.

Tonyn…..Ford hasnt deserted the GT at all……..they are offering something different to the V8……..and good on them !!!!! So what if the F6 is faster? Believe it or not not everybody who likes performance cars likes a V8. The GT heritage will never die…….but why ignore other people who want something other than a V8. It attracts more buyers who may have been lost if they only had a V8 to offer.

I agree with BM why would you consider buying a GT when there is so little difference in power between it the F6 and even the XR6 Turbo [which also has increased in power]

One of the reasons HSV have continued to increase the power of their cars is because Holden has increased the poewer of the SS and they know that inorder to justify the $30K premium customers expect a considerable difference over the standard car in virtually all areas – particularly Power…
ATM the GT is virtually a Fairmont with a decklid and racing stripes

Which will only get worse when the Twin-Turbo / Direct Injection V6 hits in either the new Commodore or Torana [expected in 2010] when they will face a similar situation to that of the
new F6 V GT
