FPV F6 with 310kW?

April 5, 2008 by George Skentzos

An illustration has appeared on the Australian Ford Forums suggesting the new FG series FPV F6 will sport an incredible 310kW of power from its turbocharged inline-six engine.

FPV F6 with 310kW?

If this image is indeed authentic, then the new F6 nudges out the current HSV LS2 range in killerwasps, but remains just shy of the 317kW figure produced by the new LS3.

However with launch control and an overboost facility available on the new F6, straight line performance between the pair is still anyones guess.

People asking when is it going to stop? need to note that the companies adding extra kw/Nm are after market companies (HSV/FPV). Ford and Holden tend to stay within the relm of common sence. There are many after market places in Australia and all around the world, so when you ask, when is enough enough the answer is when you can’t get any more then you change the boundaries and try again. And remember, these are not $50,000 cars, we are talking $70,000 plus. I wouldn’t say some kid who clears $500 a week and is 21 years old is going to be able to afford such a car. HSV and FPV are in a marketing war and they will be offering some unbelievable cars. Of course they all run on premium petrol at about $1.60 a litre.
As an after thought, Audi is bringing out some unbelievable turbos.

  2. GhisGT says:

Hey, I’m not saying more power is a bad thing. I hope you are not assuming I’m wearing a cardigan as I type this and have a Pruis in my driveway.

The only Prius I’d own is one that’s got a 502ci 14/71 blown big block on methanol with a 2-speed Lenco ‘box transferring all of it’s grunt to the rear wheels, spitting flames on decel.

  3. alec says:

I reckon there will be a peak power level for all car companies but I doubt it will affect the quest for better performance.
The peak will come about from increased fuel costs, the method to counteract will be to decrease weight and introduce lighter/more complex materials, in order to achieve better acceleration and handling characteristics from the same amount of power.
The F6 nows has 310kw?? at average $1.40/lt of fuel, pulling 1700kgs for about 13.5l/100km.
In 10 years time, it may still have 310kw, at average $1.90/lt of fuel, pulling 1500kg for about 11.8lt/100km.

It is being done now by many manufacturers and as that technology becomes more viable, everyone benefits.

Just take a look at the latest XJ Jaguar. It is a car as big as a Falcon, yet weighs less than 1600kgs due to its build materials/construction methods. The V8 supercharged XJR has had minimal power increases since its intro, yet performance has increased while fuel economy has not.

  4. Tony M says:

Considering the topic my Anti-spam word in “300kw”. I think it’s time for 310kw at least.

  5. alec says:

I always will want better performance with each new model, but to be honest, if the power did not icrease but the weight decreased, I would be just as happy…. and better off financially for it too!!

  6. Tony M says:

Spot on Alec. But remember Jaguar is not made by an after market company. If there was an after market company playing around with the Jag I believe the engines would be bored out and possibly turbo/supercharged. Now that could burn rubber. I better get of my desk the air is too think up here and I’m starting to write dribble.

  7. je ne sais quoi says:

Alec- I truly hope this happens with the next generation of cars , Bearing in mind the XF Falcon weighed 1300kg. Simplicity, new plastics ( not expensive polymers).

  8. alec says:

    My ideal for an FG GT-HO is as follows;

    1. Engine upgrades to add approx 20-30kw through exhaust, cam, tune, intake etc
    2. Light weight manually adjustable seats with lower mounting height
    3. Light Weight wheels
    4. Light weight bonnet and boot
    5. Sound Deadening reduction

In the same idea as a rs/cs porsche, aim to lose 100kg .
In fact Ford should have this as an option pack that you can add to any FPV.
Imagine the acceleration in an F6 or GT that only weighs 1600kgs…. because weight is the biggest problem with the current fords!

  9. alec says:

Even the outlook for the 2010 Falcon upgrade has to be positive. We are talking all alloy V6 and V8 engines. There has to be a 30-50kg weight saving in each. Thats a start!

  10. tonyn says:

once again…. ford deserts the loyalists and forgets the GT….. good work ford! i like the F6 but ford has such a proud heritage in fast v8;s and because FPV is run by poms they are forgetting ford australias heritage!

the f6 is a great car, but why should it overshadow the GT

  11. je ne sais quoi says:

Tonyn, don’t jump to conclusions until the GT figures get released= FPV can only do so much with the BOSS and so far, it looks like they’ve gone to town on it.

  12. Bavarian Missile says:

Hey groovers me back for a bit…..well not a bit cause hes in Adelaide still but anyway I agree Tony, it sucks ha ………FPV can do more and get more from the Boss if they werent such a bunch a girls when it came to handing out the grunt.Make the sucker rev for a start, you want the number for some good after market rod and piston manufactures FPV??? Bet you will be disapointed Tony If your new GT gets nailed by a 6 with a hair drier I would. Hell I think that if it has the same engine the new Cobra got then my I6 will beat to a 100 clicks.yawnnnnn.You listening Rod baby, wake up ,your getting your arse nailed by Holden in looks n grunt unless you pull some decent figures from the boss.Hell we all know we have to put up with what you give us till 2010 so make it worth while………

  13. J!nX0r says:

    Did I hear Killerwasps!!!!

  14. Phill says:

    Quick get the fly spray

  15. Atomic SSV says:

I saw a FPV GT today yes the new FG.
Looked alright but one thing i was unsure was of where they have placed the decal on the bulge it didnt look right and that it was meant to be.
The black outs actually look better in person.

  16. Rick Harris says:

    ChrisGT……….no lie……..do some research…..you will be surprised.

  17. Ca Plane Poi Moir says:

I agree with BM why would you consider buying a GT when there is so little difference in power between it the F6 and even the XR6 Turbo [which also has increased in power]

One of the reasons HSV have continued to increase the power of their cars is because Holden has increased the poewer of the SS and they know that inorder to justify the $30K premium customers expect a considerable difference over the standard car in virtually all areas – particularly Power…
ATM the GT is virtually a Fairmont with a decklid and racing stripes

Which will only get worse when the Twin-Turbo / Direct Injection V6 hits in either the new Commodore or Torana [expected in 2010] when they will face a similar situation to that of the
    new F6 V GT

  18. Rick Harris says:

Tonyn…..Ford hasnt deserted the GT at all……..they are offering something different to the V8……..and good on them !!!!! So what if the F6 is faster? Believe it or not not everybody who likes performance cars likes a V8. The GT heritage will never die…….but why ignore other people who want something other than a V8. It attracts more buyers who may have been lost if they only had a V8 to offer.

  19. Tony M says:

This is a very clever marketing ploy by FPV. They will have a high performance turbo 6 which I believe will wipe the floor of the new HSV 317kw unit. The name of the game will be power to weight, and I believe the new turbo 6 from FPV will be the car to beat. You see when the motoring journalists start to test the performance vehicles from HSV and FPV they will test the top shelf stuff of each brand. It’s not a question of V8 against V8 it’s all about who makes the most desirable car and kilowatts and standing quarters plays a big part. FPV said a while a go they will take on HSV head on and this is how it’s going to start. I believe this will force HSV to bring out a 427 which means FPV will install a supercharger to their 5.4litre.
I say: Let the games begin.

  20. DR XR says:

No doubt HSV can bring a blown this or 7 litre that and they are going to but I for one couldnt care less about the 130-150k market. If they could do it for under 70k id be in but that aint going to happen for years and years yet, look at the price of the base HSV sedan 6.2 317kw…Upto nearly 70k as a base.

This baby for mid 60’s is going to be king!!

  21. GhisGT says:

    Rick Harris:
I see enough of these LS1/LS2/L76/L98 day in day out to draw my own conclustion without reading it second hand. Yes, the early LS1’s did have an oil consumption issue, but that was fixed. Think about this, do you really think that Holden would leave a problem they had known about for 7 years, without fixing it? Don’t you think the warranty claim costs would over shadow the fix 10-fold?

I could make a statement about the GT35/40 used on the 4-litre turbos overboosting and destroying impellors, but just because there has been one or two over the few years of production, hardly makes it a production fault.

  22. henry says:

im with tonyn Ford has deserted the gt, they see their performance king as the F6. If they didnt the f6 would not be quicker then a GT. Why didnt Holden do the same because they see their V8 as their performance hero’s and dont want to mess with that.
Which is why ford isnt getting anymore money off me, bye bye GT hello GTS.
Those of you who think the GT is going to have over 320kw are kdding yourselves It will be lucky to have over 315kw.

  23. Duck says:

The f6 wont come with 310kw. WHEELS mag (april) says that the F6 will have 300kw, while the GT will have 315kw.

  24. Duck says:

    Good on u Henry!

  25. Oz. says:

Duck, we’ll just have to wait and see if the new FPV F6 only has 300KW or 310KW

  26. henry says:

RIP GT the legend does not continue…
The GT has always been the performance king at Ford, and at one time the world for many years.
After seeing the new FPV power figures F6 310kw and GT 315kw Ford has banished the GT to the back blocks.
Once the performance car king that all others looked up to is now a mere shadow of it’s former self..
Looks like HSV is definately getting my money from now on.

  27. 315boss says:

duck the f6 will get a 310 kw engine

  28. Grangey says:

It’s been no secret for years that the Ford 5.4L is limited by it’s stroke & rod length..Getting it to rev is hard. But the engine loves a bit of forced induction. Most of the aftermarket tuners have only managed around 320kw from N/A..Shame really for what is a good package..

  29. rick says:

the fg gt will have 365 kw.. anyone who does not believe me just wait and see..

  30. rick says:

the fg gt will have 365kw.. anyone who does not believe me just wait and see

  31. Duck says:

315boss, i know it will now because ive seen the facts but like i said it said differently in the WHEELS Mag. Thats what i believed at the time.

  32. Duck says:

Rick, im sorry mate but the GT wont come with 365kW. The F6 will be more popular over the GT from now on, till 2010 ford gets new V8’s.

  33. micky says:

According to Wheels Mag MAY2008 The F6 will have 310kw and 565nm and the GT will have 315kw and 545nm.

  34. Bret says:

    Micky
Mate this is old news – go to the “fg-falcon-fpv-official-power-figures” post!

  35. Steve says:

Why can’t Ford Australia put the supercharged V8 in the GT? Their 6 is continuing to make the V8 look lame. Boy racers may want blow off valves and whooshing noises, but the premium top of the range model should be the v8, oh and it should also be the fastest! 4litre boosted to the knackers producing 310kW is not a recipe for reliability, economy will be shocking, and it will be faster than the v8! What are they doing? Ford US have no problems using the right powerplant. This continues to be all bad news for a great marque.

  36. Tom says:

Now all we need is an F6 coupe! Id buy it for sure!
