FPV F6 with 310kW?
April 5, 2008 by George Skentzos
An illustration has appeared on the Australian Ford Forums suggesting the new FG series FPV F6 will sport an incredible 310kW of power from its turbocharged inline-six engine.
If this image is indeed authentic, then the new F6 nudges out the current HSV LS2 range in killerwasps, but remains just shy of the 317kW figure produced by the new LS3.
However with launch control and an overboost facility available on the new F6, straight line performance between the pair is still anyones guess.

the 7kw advantage the LS3 will have will count for nothing.
the F6 already kept with the LS2 and the LS2 had a 37kw advantage.
cant wait for the torque figure
Holy crap that is HOT! I can’t wait until specs are relesed this thing is going to set the road alight!
Whats the weight comparo on the two?
how about the gear ratios on either?
Yes, I saw this on a couple of Ford forums and I noticed yesterday the badge picture was removed from Australian Ford Forums.
This is better than I expected, I was expecting 300KW. But what we don’t know is the torque for this hot beast.
Bye Bye HSV!! F^ 310 kw Turbo will be a awsome.
That “V8″ badge is new, I’ve never seen it in any of the pictures of the XR8s or FPVs. Are Ford planning of a G-Series V8?
I beleive the V8 badge will go where the side indicators should be when the blinker is moved to the wing mirror.
The car will definately be a monster, and there are reports of massive midrange response from the new turbo motor
310kw, will be punching close to 600 nM I would think. Thats supercar territory.
But why oh why did they get rid of the Typhoon name. Get rid of the F6 and keep Typhoon.
Maybe thats why they have been so coy on the power figuers, letting HSV have the lime light with the LS3 and then BAM blow them out of the water, with monster turbo and twin throttle body V8.
Glen
yeah it would have to be around the 600nm mark.
since the F6 debuted it claimed the title of having the highest torque output of any 6cyl in the world and highest in any V8 or 6cyl in OZ.
this looks sure to cement its place as a performance car that ranks highly on the performance scene.
i remember hearing a while ago that it is also something like 6-7 secs quicker around the track too.
they introduced R spec suspension last year and now with the pivot front suspension and various other tweeks this is really gonna be an awesome drive
Good stuff from the mighty Blue Oval.Maybe do high 12s(hopfully)and handle better than FPV & HSV V8s
Most of the old typhoons had 230-240rwke which surpasses the 270 at the flywheel. So i wonder what this will have.
It mite do low 13s but also lately a VE SS stock has done a 13.1 and that is the L98 which does have some LS3 components in it. The LS3 may have even more power then has been said to.
And OZ FPV are going to release a GT-E will rival the senator and doesnt contain the black-outs and will get G6-ET lip spoiler. Thats a hard one of the tongue: FG G6-ET lol.
This will be interesting and only better for the consumers.
300 or 310 kw doesnt matter to me….torque is what makes it all happen. The F6 will be the best performance car ever made here…..Stuff the V8′’s…………this will be awesome……….
why would there be a 5kw or 10kw diff between a gt a f6?
it’s funny how you compare the LS3 and the f6, the f6 will be much quicker than a gt aswell why buy a GT? The LS3 should be producing 580nm rather than 550nm due to driveline restrictions even though the torque line is higher than the LS2 anyway. It would make sense that:
xr6t: from 240-270= 30kw diff
xr8: from 260-290= 30kw diff
f6: 270-300= 30kw diff
gt:290-320(but rumoured to be 315)= 30kw diff
Obviously ford are going all out with there as they get their new 3.5 v6 in 2010 (correct me if im wrong) and a new v8 is that right?(american motor?) anyway good luck to ford australia hpe that they get up with holden in the sales and toyota who brag so much (supporters) about how good their cars are the crolla is shit camry is SHIT Aurion is not bad the TRD’S ARE SHIT SUPERCHARGER WITH 400NM . Wondering if holden will get the twin turbo alloytec or a twin turbo from BMW as we share parts, wheelnut give me some possiblities if you can? and possibly a LS3 supercharged but not like the LS9 (Corvette ZR1 2009) WHICH IS 464KW AND 810NM, but a detuned one.
HSV senator if they were going to supercharge the LS3 they will maybe use the LSA, its what the Caddillac CTS-V is going to get similar to LS9 but less power and all the other things that will make less power, less boost etc.
I dont think that even if the F6 had more power and torque than a GT that it would matter at all. They are different cars to different people. A guy who likes only a V8 would buy the GT even if it had less power than an F6. I am the other way…….I would buy the F6 before any V8. I will be sad when the beautifull straight 6 is replaced……
The GT has the best resale of any of the local performance cars. Its because there is so much history and prestige and because they sell. The difference in resale of a GT and HSV Clubsport 2006 models is about $10000, thats huge, but the typhoon is about the same as the clubby.
We’ll have to wait and see till june to see what the figures actually are.
Oh & surprise surpeise HSV just bolt in another crate engine to improve performance whereas FPV are engineering the own unique engines.
They stopped production of the LS2 main reason for changing.
As senator said,
LS2 stopped production last year and HSV had a stockpile of them all after the Vette started using the LS3.
They may of been hoping they would last to VF as there is no VE series II but with their sales they sold out sooner.
And with the LS3 there is plenty of tuning potential for HSV to fiddle with and i dont think another engine will be in for quite a while now.
Glen, I know what you mean about the resale’s, but I still think even the FPV GTs don’t have a good resale, LOL. But if they some kind of limited edition like the Cobra, they would of course have a fantastic resale value.
As I said on the LSIII article, that 317KW, 550NM might be alittle different come April. HSV might to some torque improvements now that they know what’s happening over the other side.
I don;t know where Glen gets his info from but I had a look around the net tonight and saw heaps of 2006 GT’s for sale in the mid 40k range I found 1 clubsport that was 49k all the rest were over 50k..
Redbook lists National average price – private sale* $44,800 – $48,700 for the GT and National average price – private sale* of $48,800 – $53,000 for the clubsport..
So it seems the Clubsport has better resale value..
Maybe we could compare the GT-P and GTS..
GTS National average price – private sale* $58,400 – $63,200..
GT-P National average price – private sale* $50,600 – $54,900..
I think Ford might have finally shot themselves in the foot and may loose GT sales as a result.. I’m V8 fan through and through and I know when I get rid of my BFGT next year I won’t be buying another GT..
why should I when it’s going to be slowest of anything HSV and FPV are offering..
I will be making the trek over to HSV instead..
The GT was always Ford’s performance hero since they started making GT’s in 1967 now it’s just a joke..
300kw
310kw
315kw
550nm
600nm
etc etc
Don’t get too excited, they’re just the latest numbers in the ongoing game of one-upmanship…i’m sure it will be the fastest Aussie car until HSV builds the GTS-R then Ford will build a GTHO then HSV will build a GTS-R Group 3 (?) or something else and so on and so forth…
Amen Roddy, in the Ford speculation game… give them an inch, they will take it a mile. Its only fact once I see it on a FPV brochure.
Henry I dont get my info from redbook. Because no car yard or wholesaler uses redbook for any reason. I go by what wholesalers pay for cars because I work in the car industry, and resale value is not what a car is being sold for but how much you get wholesale or trade in. Red book is a guide only. And because HSV change their horsepower figures every model it hurts their. resale value compared to FPV.
But people expect drug money just because they have a HSV hence why alot of private HSV sales are $50+. Its like grey imports I had a guy come in yesterday with a r33 skyline and wanted $14,000 whereas the wholesalers were offering $7-8000. But that doesnt stop private sellars trying to sell them for $18000.
I had a look myself, it looks like that hey are selling for similar prices, with some dealers asking for drug money for a HSV, i mean $80,000 for a 2006 GTO, what a joke. They werent that special to actually increase in value
henry,
dont forget the GTS is dear to purchase initially.
from what ive seen they seem to sell for about the same on the 2nd hand market
TP,
i think you missed Roddys point in your effort to ambush this article and start bagging a particular manufacturer.
roddy is just pointing out it is a game of leap frog anyway. he is saying ford will take over the top of the power wars again, and then holden will reclaim it when they upgrade, and then ford again, and then holden again…………………………..
Why whats the point just think that in 10 years or less your kids and young ppl will be able to buy a 2nd hand fpv/hsv with 300kw + for about 15k ish and they will be on their p’s or just off, Why do we need this power to get to work or the shops in under 5 sec’s or is it to be better than the joanes next door. Look at the big picture. I could go on but u know the story.
Henry.its horses for courses really……..my Holden fan mate has always had HSV but with the VE clubby he has now that has been on a tow truck 3 times and drinks as much oil as it gulpps petrol he is making the trip to FPV for an F6 …………his first ever Ford and first ever 6 cylinder……..
In my opinion the power war is for wankers anyway…….it about how the car feels and drives because they are not racing cars……..they all have enough power as it is.
well Why, why do you need a swimming pool in your back yard, why do you need a 52 inch LCD TV. No-one needs any of this but its nice to have. I like owning a performance car, its very handy to have on single lane country roads with slow traffic. Why you can drive around in your toyota yaris if you want, because thats all you need but stop throwing up crap like that in the comments section about a performance car.
Why, your comment is pointless. Your hippy communist views have no place here. If everyone had your views there would be no progress in this world. We would all be riding around on horses, no thats too advanced because thats 1 horse power, we would be walking barefoot. And the fact that a HSV or FPV can be purchased for 15K in 10 years means nothing. a P plater does not have enough income to afford to run such a performance car so there goes that argument as the current price trends in 10 years will probably see petrol reach highs that will rival wine prices.
Ford Forums is just trying to do is to make all the ford lovers excited. Thats all there trying to do…..hype them up and when its comes to release it probaly wont be the same power output.
Duck,
well why did ford demand that their copyrighted material be pulled?
It also says on Ford Forums, someone asked Motor mag’s team and they confirmed 310KW
Hey duck!!! you back. have you been gone? :)
Well Oz. do u think HSV are scared?
Maybe I do, maybe I don’t :P
TRD 240kw and only 400nm…….lol Not really a performance car compared to the F6…….
Why do u have to have a go at me just because i had my point of view, this is why i dont write many comments on this web site because the same old ppl keep attacking each other for sayin their 2cents worth and u call me a commy, i read the comments every day and all u talk is shit to each other ur a fag for liking toyotas no no ur mum wears army boots caus u drive a mazada and no i dont drive a toyota yaris i have a ba falcon and i drive a 93 ford ute nothin special and a keen ford fan most of my life and would love to spend 70k on the f6 it is a beautiful car. Answer this would u still buy the f6 if it still only had the 270/550 in it?
I hope the FPV F6 will be able to transfer this power to the bituman. At a guess I’d say the F6 will have something in the order of 580Nm of torque. With this sort of kw/Nm of power this car could the fastest production car in Australia, maybe sub 5s 0-100kpm.
i do have to say this….. as a true ford supporter, if they make the F6 a quicker car than the GT they will lose a lot of the faithfull, i for one will be snobbing the FG if they do this!
I still have GTE 350kw on my order sheet i have……
Why, no I wouldnt because for the same performance I could buy the next XR6 or less money.
But why we hear lots of people say “you can only go 110kmh so why get a performance car” If you live by that theory you wouldnt have a BA falcon, you’d probably have a camry or if you dont have 2-3 children you’d just have the cheapest car that runs.
But dont whinge that people attack you about your opinions when you pretty much did the same things to people who enjoy performance cars.
Tonyn why would you say that, the current typhoon is quicker than the GT and FPV have not lost any GT sales but have gained some customers they wouldnt have got otherwise if they didnt have the typhoon. I don’t care if the F6 is quicker than the GT but if its quicker than HSV I bet you wouldnt complain.
Rick Harris:
His VE Clubsport drinks oil? Think you may have just told a fib considering the oil consumption problem was fixed in 2002. The LS2 engine is very different engine than the early LS1’s that had the oil consumption problem. At least if you’re going to lie tiger, do a decent job of it.
Ready, I can lie too. Watch:
My brother just bought an F6 Typhoon, has been back to Ford 5 times with warranty problems and has been on the back of a tow truck 4 out of the 5 times. It has also blown up, caught fire and once even had too much Bundy and became abusive to women. See? It’s not very hard to lie on the internet really is it.
as an employee of a ford dealership, working in spare parts, the picture displayed is taken directly from our parts catalogue, and most of those badges have part numbers asscoiated to them, so thats likely going to be the power figures
I said this before, the Australian motoring public is going more the way of Europe in the type of cars they purchase. This means that many of them are looking at smaller capacity high performance engines. I believe this new FG Falcon FPV F6 is going to hit the right spot in the market stakes. The big loser in all of this might be HSV because they don’t have anything that is comparable. This is not to say they make bad cars but the success and failure of many a vehicle is measured in the market place not the track or car magazine. Can’t wait to see what this new car is capable of.
Agree Tony M. Big performance, smaller engine is the winner combination.
The general public will always believe that the smaller engine will yield a greater fuel economy despite that big power = big fuel bill, no matter what the capacity is.
Why, “Answer this would u still buy the f6 if it still only had the 270/550 in it?” well some people wouldnt buy one because it seems like theres no progress over the old model. Sure its only the power output but if that stayed the same people would think there is no advancement over the FG and the BF. Its like with computers, do we ever use the entire computing power of our computers? nah we still would like 20 processors with terabytes of ram and a hard drive we could store i lives on, but we just go on the internet or type a letter. Theres a mentality that the new thing has to bigger, more powerful, more full of kit, just generally packed full of stuff i’ve never heard of. Otherwise why would you buy a new one over the old one? It has to be better, thats how ford hopes to sell them, or in fact thats how all car manufacturers hope to sell their new model. Oh and calling ya a commy and a hippy, is a joke… i just know a few people who are “hug the trees, save the whales” type people and i just burn a barrel of oil in front of them. so i like to make fun ofgreenies. But deep inside i hug the trees too, i mean i’m giving them carbon dioxide to breath, the trees should thank me.
I wonder where it will stop. Where the tip of the iceberg will be.
There has to be a point where power can no longer be increased without breaching ADRs.
Anybody questioning why we need more power lacks testicles and logical thought process. The same reason AMG, BMW MPower, Audi S/RS, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin are always pushing the envelope- Passion.
Saying it is socially irresponsible is anathema when basically every car is capable of ‘dangerous’ speed. This one has improved in every other engineering aspect (inc. braking), and the extra power is able to be enjoyed legally too (overtaking, racetracks etc ). Most young drivers are restricted from this sort of car anyway so there goes the second part of the argument out the window. This is an excellent acheivement from FPV. THIS IS THE NEW KING OF AUSTRALIAN MUSCLE!Doubt FG will win car of the year but BFYB is a shoe-in! I can’t wait to drive this one!
Don’t worry GhisGT we’ll reach a peak sooner or later, it always happens. Maybe it could be one of the factors that switches the masses to electric cars (wishful thinking!)
