2008 Holden Colorado (Rodeo)
April 2, 2008 by Alborz Fallah
With trademark issues with the Rodeo name, GM Holden is set to replace the Rodeo completely, with an all new Holden Colorado starting in July.

So far little else is known about the car, we can confirm, however, that it will be built in Thailand (like the Rodeo) using a Chevrolet platform and is similar in size to the existing Rodeo.
The new Colorado is expected to be available with both petrol and diesel powerplants as well as numerous body styles such as Single Cab, Crew Cab and Space Cab.
Holden will have a hard fight on its hands trying to establish a new model given the competition from the Mitsubishi Triton, Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
Holden will continue to support current Rodeo owners in GM Holden’s 3 year/100,000km warranty and Roadside Assistance.

Colorado, I like it.
www dot chevrolet dot com/colorado/
thks Bret.gee looks like a monster truck.hope they de_americanise the front grille.
How hard is this to get.
Holden Rodeo + Restyle = Holden Colorado
Same car, built in same factory, just different name and styling at the front. We aren’t getting the America Colorado, but the Thai version.

I’ll take a Ford Arizona thanks! :)
The looks from that link eddy posted, i dunno if i like it or not.
It may grow on me but im not sure.
Hopefully they change a few weaknesses the old model had though.
That Thai Colorado looks like a toy car. Holden is going have a tough sell.
What are the trademark issues with the Rodeo? That have been selling the Rodeo for 20-odd years now, what has suddenly happened to force them to stop?
Supercujo, Holden has departed with Isuzu.
Isuzu wanted the name plate back, and will sell that rodeo here as an isuzu in misubishi dealers. It will not be called a rodeo though. I dont get why they took the name plate back if they wont use it.
Holden will still supply isuzu with the alloytec though.
thats reall unfair they tyake the name and wont use it yet they still ge the alloytec
I spoke to my holden dealer yesterday, the Colorado is going to have the same power plants that the Rodeo has now.
That Colorado, in the link, looks heaps better than the old model. All it needs is the front bumper colour-matched to the rest of the car and it will be free of the silly ‘toy’ look. That would make for a much more coherent look.
Goodbye Rodeo, this name has become dirty and needs cleaning up anyway, but now taking over by the all American influence with names like (Colarado) Yukkkk, Holden is really losing pride in Australia, not meaning much to the locals at all, this will affect Holden’s sales…..
The Ford RANGER seems to be doing okay with its American influenced name.
I was hoping noone would notice unless you drive a Holden……….
be patient with us Eddy
So, Isuzu has retrieved its rodeo name to store in its archives.
The same car with same engines, transmissions, and a minor facelift will be sold as the Colorado.
For GM buyers, this will make no difference whatsoever. Thankfully they will not get the engines the US ones get, the 2.9 and 3.7 Vortex engines.
They’ll want to improve the dash rigidity, though – the last one I drove was very poor in this area.
Im pretty sure they are the same vehicle, one just has a downsized Silverado nose. I think Rodeo sounds better then Colorado…I dont know why, maybe its because I’m not a patriotic red neck American. If they are going to change the name to Colorado, they may as well put the Chevy front end on it as well – which I actually dont mind the look of. At least the Australian version gets the Alloytec V6 and not that stupid 3.7L 5cyl found in the American Colorado, and the dud H3.
Eddy,
Yes thats right, …… and its the same basic vehicle as in the link I posted but with localised drivetrains.
Good………………i liked the Rodeo. But it hasnt been up there with the competition. So the Colorado might be a very good thing. But it sounds very american. So what trademark issues did they have with the rodeo?
Duck,
they no longer own Isuzu which makes the rodeo
OK, why did they? Sold out? To another company?
Isuzu gobbled back GM’s share in the company.
toyota actually has bought a small share in them in their efforts to partner in some diesel technology and advancements
DAMN TOYOTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think the thailand colorado looks like a soft toy. needs a rawer front end. this shape has been sold OS since 03.
american and thailand models are all built on the same 355 named chassis. the american models dont come as a long bed single cab option (ours are only cab chassis but u get me)but have a longer cab with 100mm extra behind the doors to the back of the cab. wonder if we will get that. i could deff do with extra room in my 06.
i agree that it shouldnt be called the colorado because i believe it will sit badly being named after and american state. something more australian would do the trick.
u would think that if its coming out so soon people would no more….. or maybe they just dont want us to no???
I have read all of the nonsense above – doesn’t anybody have an opinion on the Rodeo / Colorado as a real working vehicle?
I have 200k on an 04 vehicle and have deferred a new purchase until the dust settles. I have nothing but praise for a Rodeo as a working 4WD. what’s the Colorado like?
What about the “Holden Outback”?
Duck, i think subaru might have a problem with that. Just as they had a problem with Ford using the word Outback from 95 to 98 on a range of Falcon utes.
Maybe they could call it the “together” or “on” or “back”.
They’ve got a certain ring to them. Holden Together, Holden On, or Holden Back.
i like those names but i dotn think anybody will take it seriously. hahhaha
johnD –
its the best ute i have owned to date and i am even going out and purchasing another one as my partners vehicle.
more then likely a space cab.
for work i have a cab chassis and it hasnt missed a beat.
im just very interested what way they are goin to take go with this ‘relaunch’.
i just hope they improve on it, not coz i have had any problems but it never does any harm to have somethin better.
also, the only major diff between our model and the americna models is th eengine. chassis and suspension is identical. so as long as we keep our power plants then i fail to see the rodeo come colorado being a less work ready vehicle????
i see this as merely a face change dont see sales being affected. i think it will boost them if anything. anyone disagree??
I’m not interested in the Ford, Holden, Toyota debate. I had decided to buy a Diesel rodeo for its towing capacity as its the only one rated at 3 tonne other than the Navara and I don’t fancy them. Should I buy a Rodeo now or wait for the Colorado?
john D and victim,
is it the diesel you guys have?
i know someoone who has the petrol rodeo, and it was troble from day one. it even got an engine transplant in the first few months.
from what ive had to do with rodeos, ive felt their reputation has slipped a bit
mines a petrol. not a problem.
Ditto Trevor. We are in the market for a dual cab TD and are struggling with lack of choice re price, power, performance and economy. ST-X is more for the family, with reduced payload. Re-released ST-R has dropped in price, but lost power despite having hte same engine as the ST-X. Ranger & BT50 are overpriced. We are now wary of the Rodeo (run out prices making way for the Colorado), given Holden’s lack of support in other discontinued models.
I have a petrol/gas Rodeo. Have had no problems with the vehicle. Run 20K services (too expensive in lost work hours for 10K services)Economy is the driving reason for fuel choice.
This is my third gas Rodeo and by far the best. The previous two ran on either gas or petrol. The present unit uses petrol for idle/warmup and gas elsewhere and uses gas injectors in the manifold rather than a mixing chamber. definitely a much nicer vehicle to drive
Hey guys, i had a look at the link the other guy posted the second link, and it looks basically the same as the rodeo we got now, except “americanized, it look alright but im hoping Holden Make a better styling choice, its extremely rude the Isuzu take the name plate from Holden and dont use like what the? and yet use our Alloy tec man i hope Holden stop providing them with the Alloytec that might stuff em up then
ok colorado – rodeo any news on whether they are going front coils how do you all rate the torsion bar front ? when most competitors are coils !
Does anyone know if the current Rodeo (diesel) will tow a 24′ caravan, 2900 when fully loaded?
The (Isuzu) Rodeo deserves better than GMH anyway whose overall support was always lacklustre, especially with GMH’s after sales service policies. IMO, the weakest link in Rodeo ownership was the Holden badge on the grill. I will line up for another Isuzu 4×4 but not another rebadge with a dodgy nose job courtesy of GM.
Typical Holden.Prides its self as Australian and the only car they make is the Commoddore.wich lets face it is nothing special just an average family car.The new Holden Colorado with its very Aussie name,um oh yer colorado is in Yanki land,is just another rebage lets face it holden cant build more than one car they are all smoke and mirrors and if all car makers do what Isuzu have done. holden would go belly up.Australian car makers have a long long long way to go to achieve what Asian and European car makers have done for the car industry, holden are just looking over there sholder and copying there notes.the rodeo is agood car because it is built by Isuzu not holden.Holden is about as Australian as a Hot dog.
How bout you’z get a real 4wd a patrol or landcruzer and stop playing with toys!
Has it not occurred to any of you that it might be named after one of the worlds most wild and beautiful rivers of the world, the one that created the Grand Canyon. I believe the river was called Colorado befor there was a state.
Westy – probably cause they all stuck in the mud or sand or parking lot where the owners left em bogged. Waiting for a rodeo to come along and pull them out.
rodeo was the worst car ever struggles to do 110 down hill, drives like a boat. I get annoyed the hire car place gives me one and thinks there giving me a great deal same goes for the AWD holden commodore ute. crap crap crap. barina, viva, captiva, epica all crap. do morw for australia then give us this shit. One good car only a VE.
Sorry for the bitch.
Actually I am thinking seriously about buying one next week, i have looked at the others on the market and they don’t even come close to my business needs. Cheers!
never buy a car on its first year introduced they always cause trouble nissan navara D40 rocks and has more power comfort and room than colorado
14 years, 360,000+ kilometers, very happy, got a new colorado
