BMW M5 to feature all-wheel-drive: report

In a move which will have the purists crying foul, BMW's M Division is set to offer all-wheel-drive on more than just its SUVs.

Albert Biermann, BMW M’s head of research and development, spoke to UK publication Autocar recently and alluded to the fact that all-wheel-drive would become an option on future M cars.

“There will be some all-wheel-drive surprises on M cars in the future,” Mr Biermann said.

It makes sense, too, given rival Audi's staunch use of all-wheel-drive on its RS models, and in snowy countries like Europe and some parts of the US, all-wheel-drive is certain to sell well.

But is it another dilution of the M brand? We'd like to hear your thoughts in the comments.
