2012 Mercdes-Benz SLK63 AMG spy shots

Mercedes-Benz is still testing and is keeping tight wraps on the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK63 AMG convertible. Here we see a test mule being driven around near the Nuburgring in Germany.

Our previous spy shots showed a very similar, if not the same, test mule being tested around Germany, it seems Mercedes-Benz isn't ready to reveal more of the body work.

From the front we can see the lower bumper bar features a much more aggressive and sharper chin. It appears the new nose will also incorporate large air dams on each side.

The big question we all want answered though is what engine lies beneath the vented bonnet. Some speculations say the 5.5-liter twin turbo V8, although somewhat detuned compared to the CLS version, while other reports say it will get a detuned version of the 6.2-litre V8.

If it gets the normally aspirated 6.2-litre, it's expected peak output will be capped at around 336kW like the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

With the 5.5-litre twin turbo unit however, power is up around the 400kW mark. If this is the engine to go in, it is very likely power will capped off for a lower peak output as it would be too much for the little SLK.

Either way, it's easy to tell the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 63 AMG will get some sort of large, high-output engine judging by those intimidating quad exhaust outlets poking out the back.

No word yet as to when the 2012 SLK AMG will be unveiled. We'll keep you updated.
