2009 Nissan Maxima revealed
March 19, 2008 by George Skentzos
Nissan has taken the covers off the new 2009 Maxima ahead of its official debut at the New York Auto Show.
The new Maxima sports a completely new look, one which may actually hint at Nissan’s new design trademarks.
In particular, supposed early leaks of the yet to be released 370Z (the successor to the 350Z utilising a non-turbo version of the GT-R’s 3.7-litre V6 engine) share a nearly identical headlight design with the 2009 Maxima.
More details to follow when Nissan’s official press release becomes available.

Weren’t me I didn’t start it it was TP.
no Realcars started it as I highlighted in the earlier comments.
*looks to find ban/delete key , damnit I don’t have that access.
Aurion did not beat Falcon in the WHEELS WASP test. Aurion did not SMASH Falcon.
It’s a little like sticking up for your favourite footy team who lost the Grand Final by one point, blurting, “Oh yeah, but if so and so didn’t fumble his marks in the goal square, my team would’ve won!”
The result is the result. A goal’s a goal, even when it’s soccered through. Remember that, Sporting Types. Season starts tomorrow night.
Sorry, Richo. I agree with you.
This here Maxima doesn’t look right. I saw a grey import Skyline sedan at Hungry Jacks last night and it struck me what a fantastic looking car it is. Proportions and detailing are just right. What’s wrong with Nissan Australia? WAKE UP!
it wasn’t me sir!!! It was him!!! honest!!! please…
Wonder if they have fixed the odd access to the boot?
As a father to be, have been looking at shite loads of different cars. 04 / 05 Maxima was one, found the boot too be fairly large however the access (how the boot opens and angles of surrounding body work) made it less effective.
Nice car but had little character.
Golfschwein – Don’t think it’s Nissan Australia mate, I doubt they have much of a say in it. This would appear to be more like what the US market is getting whilst we might get something slightly different; more aligned with the Japanese specification perhaps. They only usually change the odd trim panel or headlight surround or grille or something like that.
very IS-250 :) I like it
am i weird in thinking this thing looks really good! id line up for one! much better than nissans current offering
It is a nice looking car. All I said was that it is a shame it isn’t RWD as that would be icing on the cake. If it is made like a 350z then u couldn’t go wrong with same engine trans etc.
Looks like Chaser is a bit of a dobber.
Golfschwein, who’s TP’s favourite AFL team?
Quack Quack….ADELAIDE CROWS?
Pfft……………..Adelaide crows suck!
A crow going quack quack? You mean fark fark. :)
Golf when a base model Aurion nearly beats a XR6 in dynamics, the Sportivo with sports suspension is going to win… even with far thinner tyres which aint great for handling. Toyota are on a good thing with the Aurion. Nissan has alot of potential, the engine has been in wards top engines for a couple of years I believe, just the front end for me, looks very unusual.
But it didn’t beat it. Sad.
Read my Footy parallel above. The results are the results. What if Mazda gave WHEELS a SP23? What if Holden fielded a SV6 Commodore and an Astra SRi? And what if Toyota supplied the Crawler and Camray as Sportivos?
The WASP test is history, just like last year’s Grand Final. Don’t like the results? You can’t make your own up. Better wait for next year!
Sad.
Golf do you know how stupid you sound? Your whats ifs would make a difference, but the base Aurion for examaple smashed the Commodore, I think the Commodore finished in the bottom end of hte field! So the point is if a base Aurion can come close to an XR6 (which the Commodore for example wasnt near), that means comapring apples to applies (XR6 v SX6) the Aurion would more than likely win! Why the hell do you think For didnt want to supply a base Falcon but they got their hands on an XR6…. it doesnt take einstein to realise Ford would do their own tests on the competition, they know the Aurion had a very very very good chance of toppling the Falcon.
Oh yes and if that was the case, base Aurion beat base Falcon (very probable), the publicism would have been catostrophic…. Aurion would have topped the field in dynamics!!! So then you have the Aurion which won Drives large car of the year based on its package of refinment, feature and price… along with wheels saying its a better handler. Clearly the Aurion is the allround market leader now, I cant think of any areas that Ford or Holden are superior to the Aurion
Damn! You know what, if Sydney Swans had kicked just one extra goal in the 2006 Grand Final, they would have won it! I mean, they WOULD HAVE WON IT!
But they didn’t.
Sad….
A little like your discussion contribution. And what’s this “publicism”?
You’re outta your league, son.
Golf,
i have another sporting parallel for you.
how about a “TP’s A W**KER” chant……..
ready 1, 2, 3………………………
and TP,
just for the record buddy, the XR6 falcon has the same brakes as the base falcon so the braking challenge was more than fair. especially when the falcon had an extra 100kgs to pull up
No AndrewM it has wider tyres, you dont think that makes a differnece! Fair enough stock v stock it will still win in that department, but every other area a Sportivo would challenger a Falcon if not beat it. Add wider tyres and im certain it would beat the Falcon in EVERY area given how close a base model did in many of them (Remember even where the toyota was rated as doing bad, such as slalom and brakes…. Falcon only won by small margins, add wider tyres and it wins in brakes, add sports suspension it wins in slalom etc).
Look at you AndrewM. You’re all fired up on this Good Friday morning, and making me laugh too!
Hey, why don’t we have one of our diesel v LPG face-offs for a bit of fun? Nah, only joking. Happy Easter.
Goodness…must dig up that Grand Final article from my scrap book…double-checking…yep, here it is! WEST COAST EAGLES WON!
Golf,
well a happy easter right back to ya!!!!
i hope the Eagles lay you some eggs…
we dont care much for AFL up here in QLD
oh and happy easter to you too TP!!!!!!
i suppose if you think a strut brace on a sportivo will turn the aurion into a supercar then you obviously still believe in the easter bunny. so i wish many a eggs upon you over the easter break. and for once im sure you wouldnt like them in your face.
Yes Golf I love your reference to GF… but unfortunately this test, a BASE MODEL Aurion vs a XR6 SPEC Falcon is more like the local U6/s playing Westcoast. The result is predicable, but its a suprise when they win 3/4 qtrs!
Not that isnt the assumption, but its not just a strut brace is it… add to that firmer suspension and its going to beat a Falcon. If you dont think this and you are truly biaed, lets get back to reality, a BADE MODEL AURION gave a XR6 a scare. As I said Ford obviously know something, they refused to provide a base model Falcon.
did ford really refuse to provide a base model?
honestly made you are one paranoid piece of work.
wasnt the aurion labelled a back marker in the slalom tests?
sorry but the falcon has one of the best suspension packages available even in base form. now with the wider front track and territory front suspension i doubt the aurion will ever catch up.
also for the record it is really only the XR6T and up models that really get a tuned suspension package
Hey TP do you know one thing the commodore and falcon do have over the aurion?
AndrewM, seems that Ford wasn’t able to supply a Falcon XT on the day, so they supplied the second-best selling variant, the XR6. There’ll be a conspiracy theory in there somewhere.
RWD (Rear Wheel Drive). I had to spell it out for you! HEHEHE!
And do you know what TP the TRD Aurion is the fastest front whell drive car in the world, which means toyota made a big mistake!
Golf,
yes mate conspiracy for sure!!!
i found some survey results that displayed ford had an absolute truck load of XT’s in the cupboard but after they were apparently begged for them time and time again they refused
its all there in the surveys where you can read it for yourself
Wasnt able to supply a Falcon on the hahahah listen to yourself idiot, out of the 1000s at dealerships along they couldnt find one. Stop talking sh*t. They knew it would be beaten, the base model Aurion was seocnd only to the XR6 in dymaics and not by much, add suspension and its going to overtake. I already mentioned AndrewM the difference was like 2km/h around a slalom, that isnt huge. What is huge is nearly half a second quicker from 60-100km/h, two car lengths ahead!
I think a certain individual doesn’t understand the concept of a “press test fleet”. Cars don’t just get swiped from dealers to hand out to WHEELS.
With the Falcon about to be replaced, who can blame Ford for not having, or being interested in having, an XT on the fleet? How many times have you read a comparison report where the tester informs the reader that they were after a particular trim, price level or drivetrain combination and couldn’t get it, so therefore made do with something else. It’s not like they could foresee any member of the press actually wanting to drive one for comparison purposes at this late stage in the car’s life. If they had an XR6 racking up some kays, they would understandably say, “here, have this one”.
Aurion lost. Kluger falls over. Sad…
you beat me to it Golf,
i dont think he has any idea how it works.
TP,
why didnt they use a 6yr old camry to be fair to the 6yr old falcon. the 2nd hand dealer down the road has a few in his yard so they could have gotten them from there
No wait……..
because toyota didnt want to be totally embarresed
…..but wait there’s more.
The 6yr old Camry had a poor owner who invested in skinny tyres as wanted to downplay road ability to save 2cups of petrol every 300kms! LOL, its TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much! Ha Ha
…..ring in next fifteen minutes and we’ll include a free cup of petrol to save the environment. Have you ever stopped and thought that that cup means sweet f*** all! Who doesnt want spacesaver tyres and also the upgrade to cheap narrow tyres!
NM,
hey there is nothing wrong with holden and soon to be ford offering space saver spares as toyota has been giving its owners 5 space saver sized tyres for donkeys!!! ha ha ha
they just dont notice it because they are all space savers ha ha ha
dont forget the pay with your credit card line and get a FREE cardigan
and why not ask our operators about the complimetry Torque Steer!!!!!!
we have many testimonials from happy customers saying their arms have never been stronger due to the day to day struggle to keep the thing on the road.
one happy customer says……
“I’ve never been happier with my purchase. I’ve tried many exercise machines claiming this and that yet none have been able to give me the full on work out that my toyota offers in trying to keep it on the road. and the best bit is i dont need to make time as i can do it on the way to work. Thanks Toyota”
Well there you have it folks. just one of many satisfied customers. why delay? ring now!!!!
(PS. read with your best Ian Turpy voice)
Bugger me ANDREW M…..I read your Easter cheer (last response) and I chuckle a wee dram. All hell breaks with massive laughter as soon as I read the words Ian Turpie as gee isnt he a oil painting for deborched and wild. Looks like a weather beaten old gramophone and still going better then new. Obviously, we shouldnt nickname him Toyota….Ha Ha!
Its cool to see you are one of the funniest guys on here, shame so others cant follow our lead.
Hey you will chuckle at this….. You do realise it is claimed Iam on here daily and that this is another famous comment from the TP (master in his own head at everything) and the bending of reality (again). Do you think he is surrounded by gravity as we are as I truly think his comments are out there at times…..way out!
Others tend to not agree with your comments ANDREW M.
A 21yr old Nurse from Aust chopped a hole in his floor to try to get more speed out of his car. He alleges that due to 4 spacesaver skinny tyres on his hot candy red Toyota he needed more ticker in the car, so he decided to copy the Flinstones car and get more traction and torque in an attempt to have more pull then the underperforming torque spread of his beloved….the Aurion. There was plenty of pull achieved, with the downside being the nurse grumbling the words: DAM DOGOODERS AND SILLY BEANCOUNTERS, COULD OF SPENT MORE ON QUALITY TYRES…Grrrr dam! As for the effects of this pulling, well judging by some comments me thinks that he has RSI of the wrist!
NM,
glad you liked it mate. i even misspelt “Turpy” ha ha ha
im starting to thing that TP is yet another game show host from way back. how about Rob Rough?
do you remember him?
“and the survey says”……..(drum roll please) …………ta da, that 55% of falcons return to base with blown donks ha ha ha
because he sure loves his surveys dont he.
for TP who is prob a bit young, Rob Rough did Family Fued way back before Bert
“and the survey says”……..(drum roll please) …………ta da, that FWD is better than RWD ha ha ha
I think it looks great and modern, sporty appearance. Will be great if its a Rear wheel drive, can’t wait to test drive one. Does anyone know when it is for sale in Oz?
Gavin C,
This is not the Maxima Australia will be getting. There is speculation the Skyline may be coming back, but Nissan Aus isn’t saying anything. If we get any Maxima, like the current version, it will be the Japanese version known as the Teana. Spy shots of the new Teana have been doing the rounds on the internet and it looks similar to the Intima concept from Tokyo last year. Nissan released an official spy shot of part of the front of the Teana in the last week and it looks less polarising than this thing. It is due for release later this month at the Chinese Motor Show. Any new Maxima should be on-sale here late this year or early next.
The rear lights look like they are straight from the Civic Si
NISSANS BIG MISTAKE IS GOING FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ,THE VQ MOTOR IS EXCELLENT ,AND AS FAR AS REAR WHEEL DRIVE BEING HEAVIER ON FUEL THATS RUBBISH ,I HAVE A 98 SOARER /LEXUS V8 VTEC 4ltre 5 SPD AUTO 225KW THAT GOES LIKE HELL BUT GETS 8 LITRES TO THE 100 KMS AND HAS EVERY EXTRA YOU COULD THINK OF INCLUDING SAT NAV ,TOUCH SCREEN ,BLACK DOE LEATHER ,ABS ,UNREAL SOUND SYSTEM AIR SUSPENION ,LSD , AND HAS NEVER BROKEN DOWN WITH ANYTHING IN FACT ITS ONE OF THE BEST CARS EVER BUILT IN MY OPINION ,AND I AM A NISSAN FREAK IVE ALSO GOT A R34 GTR V SPEC YELLOW AND HAD A 97 V SEC BUT THEY COST A LOT TO RUN AND FIX ,IF NISSAN HAD OF RETAINED REAR WHEEL DRIVE THEY WOULD HAVE DONE REALLY WELL ,FRONT WHEEL IN THE WET AND ON DIRT RDS IS HOPELESS AND HIGH SPEED CORNERING ,TRY GOING UP A HILL ON THE DIRT IN FRONT WHEEL ITS A JOKE ,holdens and fords are very ordanary in build quality but they only sell because they are rear wheel drive ,the nissan vq kills any v6 out there especialy the 3.7 ,my next car is the new gtr ,now thats a car .
