Mahindra to buy Bertone?

Italian design firms are not having a good decade, Pininfarina is millions in debt while its main rival, Carrozzeria Bertone, has stopped manufacturing cars since 2005 and is officially bankrupt.

As of last week there seven bids have come in from around the world for Bertone. The interesting ones include fellow Italian design house Italdesign Giugiaro and Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra.

Don't expect a sale soon though as it normally "takes at least three months to move from potential interest to a formal bid." an Italian commissioner in charge of the Bertone holdings told Automotive News Europe.

Mahindra seems to have the most to gain from buying Bertone for design and inspiration of its cars.
