Mahindra to buy Bertone?

By Alborz Fallah |

Italian design firms are not having a good decade, Pininfarina is millions in debt while its main rival, Carrozzeria Bertone, has stopped manufacturing cars since 2005 and is officially bankrupt.

As of last week there seven bids have come in from around the world for Bertone. The interesting ones include fellow Italian design house Italdesign Giugiaro and Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra.

Don’t expect a sale soon though as it normally “takes at least three months to move from potential interest to a formal bid.” an Italian commissioner in charge of the Bertone holdings told Automotive News Europe.

Mahindra seems to have the most to gain from buying Bertone for design and inspiration of its cars.

    *****PRIMO!*****

Suppose it has to happen, better that a overseas company buys *our* brands, then have then shut down.

These days its all China, India and Russia “new-money”

Good luck to them, keep all employed and build on past glory!!

    Cheers
