Males drivers more likely to be distracted

March 17, 2008 by Alborz Fallah

According to a study published by the NRMA today, male drivers are marginally more likely to be distracted whilst driving than women.

Males drivers more likely to be distracted

NRMA questioned 1350 motorists and found that eight per cent of men admitted to crashing because of distractions, which ranged from reading a newspaper, adjusting the car stereo, listening to music, drinking a cold drink, eating, kissing or even chasing insects.

Only five per cent of women admitted to the same thing. Of course, the results have to be taken with a grain of salt, simply because admission doesn’t account for truthfulness.

As for SMSing?

“While virtually all people surveyed (96 per cent) acknowledged that texting while driving was the most dangerous behaviour, one in five drivers admitted to doing it.” NRMA director Coral Taylor said.

Additionally, 30 per cent of men, in comparison to only 20 per cent of women, admitted to near misses resulting from taking their eyes off the road.

“Motorists clearly understand which behaviours were dangerous, but 75 per cent admit taking their eyes off the road to do something other than driving,” Taylor said.

One of the important figures that the NRMA appears to have left out is the duration of the distractions. There is no denying that any distraction while driving can be deadly, but longer, more brain intensive distractions (such as applying make up or reading the news paper) are more likely to cause accidents.

I only ever once got distracted looking at a female – it had the fattest arse and most disgusting muffin top you’ve ever seen, no discernable tits, huge gut, tree stumps, etc. It wasn’t really the sight of her that distracted me, it was when her boyfriend kissed her that did it – well, it wasn’t really that either – it was when I vomited at the sight of the whole thing.

Took ages to clean out the car……..

It’s a male thing, blokes cannot multi-task. Women; make-up, phones, hair, all whilst sliding sideways cos can’t drive properly…sorry BM you excluded

Awwww shucks No Name aren’t you sweet.

Funny you say that about muti-tasking same thing Wheelnut said to me earlier, but yes I agree most women can’t control a car if out of control as well as a guy . Funny thing is this blog is similar to the first post I ever made back early last year,I think that one had to do with Women being better drivers, once again another Insurance survey. Mind you I can steer with my knees whilst putting my hair up No Name .

You’ve never perved at my chest have you Golfschwein, you have always been the gentleman around me. OZ… your blushing!!!!!!!! Not even close to extreme yet.

Yeh BM your’e right i’ve read that women are statistically better drivers. However I’ve never had a serious accident, just a few minor bumps, my wife on the other hand managed to write-off her previous boyfriends car some years back….a lovely Porsche 944 Turbo..ha ha served him right for being a pr1ck

      says:

the difference is the one accident i have had while driving has come from, how should we say, “testing the outer limits of my car” whereas my wifes accidentS have come from not looking while reversing, not looking while parking, and not looking while doing a 3 point turn.

in saying that my wife is a very good driver, probably better then me, WHEN she decides to switch on
