Hyundai Genesis Coupe Revealed

By Alborz Fallah |

First images of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe have surface on the internet, unofficially.

Looking a little different to what we were expecting. The front end seems to have some French inspiration to it.

The rear on the other hand looks like a cross between the new Mazda6 and the Infinity G35.

Little else is known about the car, except that it red-lines at 6,500RPM and is expected in 2011. More info will be available when the car officially debuts at next week’s New York Auto Show.

    Not bad at all.

Argh! Now you guys are doing it too.

On a lot of US sites, they like to liken any new car to an Infiniti G35, whether it is warranted or not. I dunno if the G35 is just some generic lump that everything looks like it, or a good portion of the population have misshapen eyeballs.

Eh, not too bad I guess, kinda inoffensive. Not great either, however. Definitely some of the old Hyundai coupe in there as well. All up, it doesn’t do anything for me.

    Next.

  • Ian

Personally, I don’t like the kink in the window line. Otherwise, it looks fine.

  • Reckless1

They’ve taken a beautiful basic line and glitched it up to look Korean.

It’s too fussy and is now close to ugly.

  • Flying High

Looks too tame. Hopefully the performance won’t be.

  • http://impreza dlr1

i agree with ian and reckless1. The basic lines are great but too fussy at the nose, and side window. Spoils an otherwise promising design.

  • Sund00bie

Still looks very tiburon’ish to me!

But good effort none the less

  • AGM

Looks ok…but, is it back wheel drive? The question we all want answered…

  • B///M3

Whats with the kink on the window line……someone sneezed?

  • o

yes its back wheel drive and is expected to sell for around US25000 dollars so convert and we will pay around 40000$ still i like the front and back but not that grill side has a lot of flame surfacing in it

  • No Name

Thats a bit of obscure knowledge “redlines at 6500 rpm”.

  • http://jeep Eyma Teapot

I like it from most angles but not sure that the front does the design any favours.

  • Hmm…

…if this is expected in 2011, this car will definately look dated by then…

  • Neil

can you say “fire the people who designed the front end, get the people who did the rear to re-do the front?”
    i think we can

that front fascia is….well, can words describe it?looks like a shocker!
good silhouette, shame bout the nose n that stupid-damn kink…what were they thinking?
this car had promise….but seriously Hyundai, could you do a complete car that doesnt look like someone’s leftovers after a bout of food poisoning? im sure we’d appreciate it

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au Anthony

It looks quite good. What’s under the bonnet?

  • http://impreza dlr1

Autoweek reports that the car is rear drive with a turbo four powerplant to be followed later by a V6.

  • Kenzo

    2011???

release it now so it can cause the japs and europeans to respond. though if they release it now they could problably sell alot more than in 2011. could be a better even than the i30 was.

looks to me the hype for i30 and kia ceed wasnt very successful as marketing campaign was expecting.

  • http://evo Frugal One

If its RWD and a V8 with monster performance, it could well give the Mustang a hard time.

Is that the market its aimed at?

Well sell ok in USA, will most likely be a orphan here

    Cheers

    F-0

  • No Name

Thats a really low bonnet line, can’t see a V8 of size squeezing under there and still achieving pedestrian crash protection.

Its a nice modern design though, fair play Hyundai.

  • Duck

I dont like the slope in the rear window and the grill.

  • http://jeep Eyma Teapot

I dont like that bird with a bill and webbed feet Haha..

  • Baji

I think it looks quite nice from some angles but there are some things that i think spoil quite a nice design. The dip in the rear window does not work at all and the front. Why can’t hyundai design a nice looking front end? they usually do really nice rear ends but the front never seems right. It is usually out of proportion and looks forced and pinched sometimes. those rear taillights look a bit cheap. but other than that kudos to hyundai for trying.

  • Duck

Ha Ha funny Eyma Teapot, why are u being so mean?

  • http://jeep Eyma Teapot

    Sorry Duck,
Are you a donald or a daffy fan.
I prefer more a peking duck myself

  • Mike

Hyundai is so gay. ugly copycat

  • Pimp

oh my god! its looks so gay! I agree with you MIke. It should be cheap because it is made by the koreans. Hyundai sucks. I bought a new Hyundai 2 years ago because it was cheap but it had lots of problems. I traded in for my new Mitsubishi Evo. Hyundai is so bad.

  • AC COBRA

Hyundai is overrated because it is still made in slave labour Korea, will never be collectable, copy designs from other manufacturer’s and carry “I’m a tight ass” tag.

This could be SO good with just a little restraint. As just about everyone has mentioned – The rear quarter windows are TOTALLY WRONG! the Nose is a mess. As some one mentioned – flame creases on the sides and bonnet another bad idea – You’ll noticed the up coming BMWs have lost that amature look. This coupe is a let down after the i30 with its relatively clean lines. Easy fix though. Staighten out the droop in the quarter windows and smooth out a few creases, and take the fussines out of the grill – then you have a car worth buying. Not the way it is though!

Bet the roof line is to low for a 6 footer like a Tiburone
