wheelnut,
i say make use of the canadian plant.
i mean they are better off making them where they can control the $$$ better in relation to the poor US$ especially when it looks like the US is going to take a heavy handfull of our product.
also because it makes more sense to use existing facilities rather than expand something here in OZ
they also have to ensure jobs in the US too so they cant take too much production away from them.

I too believe that GM will decide to start building the LHD Versions of the Commodore Sedan Ute Wagon and Torana Overseas.
Yet I expect it will be in Canada as they are planning to close at leat 4 of their assembly lines which are currently operating at less than 60% whereas Elizabeth and the plant in Canada [which will be building the Camaro] are at close to 100%
This could then mean the new Monaro and Torana [which will probably become the Commodore in 2012] could be made here at home

im still waiting for the announcement that they will be making the commodores in the US to serve the US.

seriously i dont think it will be too long especially if they keep comitting to further models and increased volumes.
it would prob be a good move for GM i reckon (still make them here too of course)

With the announcement today of the Commodore ute's export to the U.S of A it will be interesting to see how Pontiac market the ute. Will we see ads for it there being similar to the old Thunderstruck as for the ute here. The ute is expected there from the 2nd half of 2009.

Also with the export of the G8 GXP also being added things are looking good for Holden. Despite anything that maybe said about the Sportwagon, I can see that being next on the export agenda. They can say now it wont be exported but within a year I can see that perception changing.

Hey XR2_Capri, my anti-spam word this time is Skoda, and 20 years ago I might have been tempted to liken it to Proton. But VW rescued Skoda and look at them now. You can't compare Hyundai with Proton as there has always been a completely different economic model which would guarantee their growth path. VW also looked at rescuing Proton but with the business too far gone and totally dependent on a small market with ridiculous levels of protection being rapidly dismantled, there was no business case. Proton will never make it long term.

Ford is no.1: "The G8 will struggle with sales no matter how good the ad is.."

Do you know how many are being exported? 30,000.

Do you know how many cars they sell a year over there? about 20 million.

I dont think that, given its price over there undercuts similar vehicles and the big rap some of the media is giving it, they will have any trouble selling them.

Just ask yourself what over there does ford have that can compete with this? The crown victoria? hahaha
