New Pontiac G8 Commercial
March 14, 2008 by George Skentzos
Whining from hypocritical nay-sayers mean Australian car commercials are usually pretty tame. This doesn’t seem to be a problem in the US where Pontiac’s ad campaign for the G8 GT is moving into full swing, where it stars as the hero car in a Spy Hunter spin-off.

PRIMO
good watch
Good ad. I agree this country is full of a bunch of grumpy old gas-bagers, who have nothing else to do but complain about every thing on tv that seems the slightest bit dareing, leaving the rest of us to watch lame car commercials. What happened to the good old ads featuring SS utes doing circle work to an AC/DC sound track?
Oh no, that ad made me want to go and outrun a helicopter with the cops chasing! Please ban it… :P
I’m with you Alborz!! :)
B……B….But those cars are promotingdanger in games and toys.and theres violence. How are they allowd.Anyway 30K that is so unfiar i hate this country
This ad is for the promotion of the spy hunter movie coming out soon starring Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, who also did the voice over for this ad
The G8 will struggle with sales no matter how good the ad is.. plus the dollar is again on the rise making it hard for exports…
Aaaargh. Proton popped up as my anti-spam word. I would otherwise have made no comment but why do we have to have a surplus to requirements car company which only exists as the result of an ego trip by a former Malaysian Prime Minister?
did anyone catch that second last car that rolled off to the side? at a glance i thought it was a kluger ha ha ha
sorry,
i know thats mean, but i had to put the boot in before the boot was put into this
FORD is No.1,
mate the US dollar wont affect how many they sell over there. all it means is holden gets bugger all for them back here. the only thing that remains to be seen is if they start losing too much money and whether they decide to make them over there for their own customers and to reduce manufacturing costs
thunderstruck was a great ute ad.
im sure holden are still selling many of their utes off of the image they created.
i dont think they were actually banned but rather all the auto groups gave a little promise that they would keep them a bit more “legal” for want of a better word
Alborz comment sums it up spot on as fully agree!
Ford is no.1: “The G8 will struggle with sales no matter how good the ad is..”
Do you know how many are being exported? 30,000.
Do you know how many cars they sell a year over there? about 20 million.
I dont think that, given its price over there undercuts similar vehicles and the big rap some of the media is giving it, they will have any trouble selling them.
Just ask yourself what over there does ford have that can compete with this? The crown victoria? hahaha
Captain Mainwaring,
Hyundai might have been in your anti spam 20 years ago also, 1988 remember the excel then, but times do change and internet connection speeds!
Andrew M – “did anyone catch that second last car that rolled off to the side? at a glance i thought it was a kluger ha ha ha”
Yeah and the one that rolled before was a Landcruiser! LOL
^
I mean the last one to roll was the landcruiser!
Hey XR2_Capri, my anti-spam word this time is Skoda, and 20 years ago I might have been tempted to liken it to Proton. But VW rescued Skoda and look at them now. You can’t compare Hyundai with Proton as there has always been a completely different economic model which would guarantee their growth path. VW also looked at rescuing Proton but with the business too far gone and totally dependent on a small market with ridiculous levels of protection being rapidly dismantled, there was no business case. Proton will never make it long term.
With the announcement today of the Commodore ute’s export to the U.S of A it will be interesting to see how Pontiac market the ute. Will we see ads for it there being similar to the old Thunderstruck as for the ute here. The ute is expected there from the 2nd half of 2009.
Also with the export of the G8 GXP also being added things are looking good for Holden. Despite anything that maybe said about the Sportwagon, I can see that being next on the export agenda. They can say now it wont be exported but within a year I can see that perception changing.
Frosty – then of course there the upcoming [VF] Crewman Ute
im still waiting for the announcement that they will be making the commodores in the US to serve the US.
seriously i dont think it will be too long especially if they keep comitting to further models and increased volumes.
it would prob be a good move for GM i reckon (still make them here too of course)
I too believe that GM will decide to start building the LHD Versions of the Commodore Sedan Ute Wagon and Torana Overseas.
Yet I expect it will be in Canada as they are planning to close at leat 4 of their assembly lines which are currently operating at less than 60% whereas Elizabeth and the plant in Canada [which will be building the Camaro] are at close to 100%
This could then mean the new Monaro and Torana [which will probably become the Commodore in 2012] could be made here at home
wheelnut,
i say make use of the canadian plant.
i mean they are better off making them where they can control the $$$ better in relation to the poor US$ especially when it looks like the US is going to take a heavy handfull of our product.
also because it makes more sense to use existing facilities rather than expand something here in OZ
they also have to ensure jobs in the US too so they cant take too much production away from them.
