Toyota working on new batteries

March 7, 2008 by Alborz Fallah

Despite problems with its Lithium ion batteries, which are still to even hit mass production for hybrid or electric vehicles, Toyota Motor Corp. has started preliminary work on a new generation of batteries with twice the energy storage.

Toyota Prius Hybrid System Price Drop

According to reports from Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo newspaper, the Big T is aiming for each battery to run 80 kilometers on a single charge from a home outlet. The new batteries are expected by 2020.

lithium ion batteryToyota has already confirmed its intentions to have a hybrid variant in each model line by the 2020s, but given current issues with battery development, these post lithium-ion batteries might be the only way it can get there.

The Japanese giant believes extra power storage offered by these new batteries will help maintain its lead in hybrid vehicles for decades to come.

Going back to lithium ion batteries for a minute, they are scheduled in Toyota hybrid vehicles by the end of the decade.

    Your joking right Chaser what promise……..pfftttt,makes no difference if I take my car on a track or not,although I have plenty of opportunity. Did you watch the M3 around a track…..chalk and cheese.

    Im sure if you have ever driven an M3 you will understand that the chassis under it doesn’t have to be pushed to its limits to have the dynamic appeal it has. Straight line speed,so thats all that matters to you does it.May as well go drive a top door slammer if your after speed. Whether your driving on a track day or doing the GREAT OCEAN ROAD trip the M3 will still feel more of a drivers car than the Lexus….but hey as I said nice try first time around.

  2. bavarian – as you would have never driven an IS-F let alone along the Great Ocean Road … how could you possibly even know ??

    Despite the annoying beeping sound, fifth gear found the IS-F a very sporting and enjoyable drive … did they not !!

    You are just making excuses for a car that is possibly going to take it right to the M3 just as Toyota is taking it to the yanks.

    Go to autospies and thier review suggests that the IS-F is very much a match for the M3.

    Nice try trying to convince otherwise.

  3. Bavarian Missile says:

    P i s s off Dingo did I give you permission to talk to me. I was talking to Chaser,and you think you can keep your little charade up with name changes so far Ive put up with your rants since you snuck back on the site after I got you banned from your repulsive personal attacks.

    ……and your wrong about the great ocean road. No of course I haven’t driven an IS-F ..der…….

    My point is I have driven an M3 unlike you thats only had Camrys and cant comment about any performance car or how it drives. If you had eyes and watched both clips you would have seen the differences in the cars styles around the track.

    Well thank you for admitting that the IS-F “is possibly going to take it to the M3″ my point exactly,it doesn’t.Ill check the review out but as Tiff says he was impressed with it,but at no time did he prefer it over the epitome performance car in its league for the last 20 years that every one sets their credentials too …the mighty M3.

    Chaser can reply to this but not you……

  4. No Name says:

    Hiya Bav Missile, Chill babe. here not much point in gettig your dander up over Guess Who. Its deliberate provocation so chill and enjoy the day. We’ve got amazing storms here at the moment 130K plus winds driving rain. God knows how many ships are in the sound sheltering.

    Yeh the IS-F, I actually quite like the look but Tiff Needells drive showed its short coming, I need to look at the vidoe again but the chronic understeer was appalling. Tiff used to be a Saloon car racer so does know his stuff although he was never totally sucessful. I guess if they gave it to Lotus to mess with it could be competative.

    Chill hun chill.xx the Nun

  5. Bavarian … you are WRONG !!

    Fifth gear gave the IS-F a very solid review and was rapped with the car …. am i wrong – NO !!

    The fact is Bavarian, each and every comparison all over the world will offer something marginally different because of eachs own preferance, style and car used to driving … am i wrong – NO !!

    oh yeah … is that a pink or purple hanky you perfer to pat dry those sooky peepers of yours.

    Fairdinkum freak … you need to grow up because the fact is – no matter how good or fantastic a product is from Toyota/Lexus – you just hate admitting with a passion that they are mighty fine cars. You are not constructive, just an utter bullsh*t artist.

    While i usually support my comments with published facts n figures, you do little more then rave on with shear crap because that about the limit of your intelligence … PERIOD !!

    ps… pink or purple hanky ??

    oh yeah – i just love it when you fall apart when challenged. I suppose in true Bavarian weak as sh*t style you will now send an email to Alborz while hiding behind everybody else hoping they ‘ll pick you up.

  6. What cronic understeer.

    As tiff stated, a grunty, deep V8 noting monster that is very sporting and fun to drive … did he not !!

    And don’t come back at me a say that the M3 is perfect because fact is … it’s not !!

  7. No Name says:

    La La La La La La La.

  8. No Name says:

    sorry meant oversteer. I was thinking of my Barge at the time.

  9. Oversteer can be a good thing especially in the fun factor department … am i wrong – NO !!

    And once a driver becomes intouch with his car it will not be a issue.

  10. tonyn says:

    NO ONE here has driven an is-f! so why bring it up! and from what i know from over seas, RS4 and M3 and C63 still spank it???

    This is a typical toyota battle, cant win on the topis so we go to hiluxes, then lexus, then camry, the aurion, hang on…… we still have TRD to bring up!

    TP, what about biodiesel, wont that put pay to making diesel from oil, i know a lot about this subject as i worked ( and am now to a certian degree) with a leading diesel engine manufaturer, wont bio diesel make the VW, BMW, Benz, Citroen, Peugeot and numerous other diesel cars greener than the prius??

    I worked for a honda dealer for years and the biggest coverup in hybrid is the poloution the used bateries will cause to the environment, and there batteries are only good for 8 to 10 years and then there is a horrendus cost in replacing them, so please tell me the real reason this car is a better buy than any of the diesel cars manufactured today????

  11. No Name says:

    Tonyn – see my other comments regarding the VW bluemotion diesels they already are more efficient than the ageing Prius. I not really sure the biosdiesel is the way forward, demand will/does outstrip supply, I’d rather drive a Hydrogen powered car with its limits than a bio diesel, purely due to the destruction of rain forests to clear ground for palm tree plantations. Try searching National Geographic, I’m sure they have done a bit on it.

  12. tonyn says:

    hydrogen is a way forward too, agree totally, i just think people dont know the full facts of hybrids!

    Bio diesel is a good short term soloution, and thats all a hybrid car is too!

  13. Bavarian Missile says:

    Grow up Dingo,what are you twelve?

    If Alborz didn’t think it it a worth while exercise getting rid of you he wouldn’t ,I don’t run the site he does.I simply report to him when idiots like you become off topic to the extreme and then start firing abusive repulsive personal attacks.Wouldn’t surprise me if you were Matthew either. I don’t need help in my replies when it comes to cars……..

    Still supporting abusive men are you,don’t mind hitting the wife.Gee should have got you round here yesterday morning to clean up a broken window after my ex tried to break in at 11.00pm……Hanky,pftttt there is a saying what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Men like you and him never surprise me with your actions.There is no low you won’t go to

    Oh and Dingo…..your the one wrong about the M3,your sheer arrogance towards Toyota astounds me.

  14. Frugal One says:

    If the new Prius does indeed do 150MPG, the improvement will be coming from the battery side of it.

    Its not possible to make a gasoline powerered vehicle in that size and features that does 150MPG.

    So really its going to be a battery powered vehicle with very little use of the ULP side of the equation!

    GM had a similar vehicle more than 10 years ago……

    Cheers,

    F-0

  15. No Name says:

    but I totally agree with Bm on this one, theres no need to be quite so pesonal. For crying out loud its a website to express pinion, nothing more.

  16. No Name says:

    The diesel hybrid thing really depends on what you want as an outcome, if your after zero emissions then neither will suffice as they both use fossil fuels. If your after cheap motoring then th diesel wins by a small margin but that margin is set by a number of things, such as Government policy, fuel prices, manufacturing costs. Toyota aren’t exactly going to give away emission free cars its still business as usual for them.

  17. tonyn says:

    guess who you are a total trouble maker, i havent heard you say anything good about any other manufacturer other than toyota and lexus? so why pick on BM for that?

    Go to a toyota forum and leave the sensible conversation to others.

    You truely showed your colours coming on here as rodrega and then replying to rodrega…..

  18. Fairdinkum Bavarian … spare us the drama queen act.

    Lets face it – you come on this site being a gooby clown and all it good until you get challenged. Then … well, don’t the heavens open with tears.

    Was that a pink or purple hanky ??

    ps … have never broken a window or hit a woman in my 33 yrs of life, just don’t appreciate smart arses like yourself that’s all.

    oh yeah – if you report abusive behaviour and idiots then you better smarten up your act and start reporting yourself in the process.

    Another decription for twits like you … hypocrite !!

    Put it this way Wallowing Missile – you know as much as myself i will only have to take 30 seconds of my time to find a list of personal attacks and insults from yourself.

    You see … thats just my very point about your stinken attitude and hyprocritical personality. Your opinions carry no weight or repected by many bloggers and that is a fact.

    Seriuosly Bavarian … GROW UP and stop being a crying twit for once in your life.

    Noname – is just Toyota not giving away emmission free cars or every single automotive manufactuer in the world. Correct me if i am wrong but i believe they are in busines to make money just like every other corporation on the face of earth.

  19. Tonyn … don’t you talk. I clearly recall you stating that you drive a Toyota and infact don’t mind Toyota but ever sense have never witnessed a positive response in thier favour ever sense.

    Yeah … true clours alright.

    Lets face it Tonyn – your intelligence is about as limited as that of Wallowing Missiles.

    Better still, while i have a habit of commenting from facts n figures you speak nothing more then unsupported opinions which ususally just happens to be nothing more then garbage.

    the fact is Tonyn – i don’t like crap talk which is why i’m here keeping you clowns in order. If you want a challenge then lets go for because i love it with a passion and you will be yet … another push over for me !!

  20. Oh yeah … sensible conversation is when you respect the positive attributes of companies including those advancements from Toyota/Lexus in recent years and not sh*tting on them at any given moment.

    Remember – you said sensible converstaion not me so why don’t you show your true colours and follow your own advice.

    But haa … i believe i will only prove that you are nothing more then just another hyprocrite and that shouldn’t take long.

    ps – what ever colour hanky Wallowing Twit doesn’t want you can have.

  21. tonyn says:

    i dont drive a toyota, last time i drove one was when i was working a a dealership…. so pull your head in.

    I have a australian, european and japanese cars in my shed at the minute and dont dfor a second think that one of them is a toyota, for the money you pay for a toyota you get nothing more than a plain vanilla machine. and as for lexus, let me tell you all there advancments the germans have been playing with for years.

    I admire toyota, they have managed to put a CREDIBLE performer in every catergory, there certainly not the best but they have one.

    What i can stand about toyota is there arrogance towards the car buying public and how they manage to get people to think that there product is the best because it has a toyota badge on it.

    I work in the industry, i buy a new car every 6 to 12 months so i have a fair idea when i comment not just some rubbish you pull of the net or an NRMA report. i have a VW touareg V10, GT falcon (a real one not one of these moden day rubbish ones!) and a VE commodore in my shed, which proves im not completly biased towards ford!

    Mayby before you shoot off the mouth about the IS-F you should drive the M3 and RS4, i have just had a RS4 leave my garage and i still cry at the thought of having to give it back. in my opinion with all wheel drive and v8 power equilivant to is-f the audi should give it a hiding, cant wait to see the comparo!

    Toyota build ok product, i wouldnt turn into a freak, and i think the prius is a load of rubbish designed to make toyota look good when it clearly isnt!

    What gets me is for the money you can buy a toyota or lexus for the other competetors have a better package, but because it is mighty toyota they will buy it. look at TRD, the XR6T offers far more bang for your buck, yet you fail to see that and think im biased!

    For the record, i think id wipe the floor with you on my motoring knowledge, i driven cars you could only ever dream of, i have far bigger asperations of driving something a whole lot better than a toyota, actually, i think i do!

  22. Bret says:

    Dingo,
    Drop the “JD Powers” cherade. Only 22% of the rating even relates to reliabilty.
    And speaking of reliability, a sampling rate of 0.3% of the market hardly rates as reliable data. (yep only 3000 out of 1 million sales)
    Even JD Powers themselves admitted that participation was really too low to get accurate results (but then published them anyway).

    All electric is not the way to go when you have primarily coal fired power generation.

  23. Bavarian Missile says:

    You and my ex have a lot in common.both narcissistic…..get over yourself Dingo..”keeping us clowns in order”Ive never said I haven’t insulted you,most of the time in retaliation BUT I know where the line is you dont,which is why you have had your arse kicked off here before.What is the go with all the name changes.You have no credibility on this site ,just rants and abuse. You want me to find the last comment where you crossed that line?

    Me a drama queen…your the one that clearly doesn’t have any personal development cause all you do is throw insults at people when your cornered. 33 are you ,one wouldn’t have picked that!in 16 years of driving what have you owned too claim soooooo much knowledge on Toyotas and everything else? We would all like to know?

    “Over steer can be a good thing”……hahaha.Ill store that away for when you bring up the next I love FWD Camrys….”Once a driver gets in touch with their car” …so your now saying its the driver that makes a good car not the other way round.pfttttt please.Just for once admit your wrong.M3 is still the epitome,but Im sure Lexus will continue playing catchup.

    Thanks Tonyn and No Name for the support but as you both know I can go head to head with people like this ….

    Love the line on he should drive the M3 or RS4 Tonyn, but I doubt he can drive to the cars potentional anyway!

  24. Tonyn – lets get something straight here … Toyota is pulling absolutely nothing over anyones eyes bar the fact that thier marketing department of argueably the best in the world and damn good at adjusting to the ever changing environment unlike GM and Ford who can hardly even put a foot right these days.

    Were you are completely wrong is value for money with exception to Toyota’s higher spec off-road vehicles but even THEY ARE THE BEST AND MOST RUGGED VEHICLES for such duties.

    Any Toyota passenger car, SUV and most off-road examples are not only highly competitive for price but also for modcons, drivetrain output, safety and efficency … AM I WRONG – NO!!

    Yaris, Corolla, Camry, Aurion, RAV4, Kluger, Hilux and Prado are all priced and speced extremely competitive against any of thier competitors while the Prius and Land Cruiser do cost more.

    Talking of Lexus – for what you get with a Lexus they are true luxuries for your dollar of which BMW and Mercedez Benz charge much, much more for but haa … if you are unbias you would have noted that already.

    Also, with a typical Toyota you get a quality car that have proven reliability, dependability and durability not to mention safety. However – look at a typical Holden and it is either a poorly rated Daewoo or an unreliable, unrefined, ruff, gruff and poorly manufactuerd Commodore.

    And better still, you go on about being overpriced yet the fools at Holden are trying to charge inexcess of $125 000 for nothing more then a dated 7.0 HSV (W427)… YEAH RIGHT !!

    Other differences between Holden / Ford and Toyota is consistancy. While the BIG T offers highly competitive products right across thier entire range covering just about every segment with quality cars/SUV’s/people movers/4×4’s/commercials … Holden and Ford exhibit no such traits. Admittedly Ford has a respectable fleet but they are not regarded for thier rugged off-road or commercial ability … are they.

    Holden … well, they are undoubtedly one of the worst brands in Australia. Apart from the Commodore being nothing more then just a Commodore, the Rodeo is nothing to talk about while the rest of thier fleet is nothing but rebadged Daewoo’s

    So not only does Toyota have a broad-spanding fleet satisfying the market on all facets – they are consistantly amoung the leading contenders in each and every segment. And then topple it even further … unlike Holden and Ford – Toyota is also successfully challenging the prestiage luxury market with thier highly renouned and regarded luxury brand – Lexus. That said … the best the likes of Holden can do is come up with a pretend marque like the Statesman. With the addition of TRD, Toyota now also has a gap filler between it’s mainsteam Toyota fleet and Lexus.

    Infact – Toyota is the only company in Australia that is as widely spanced as themselves and all while exhibiting consistancy right across it’s entire range of vehicles ranging from the Yaris through to the V8 Cruiser, right up to the Lexus LS600hl and everything in between.

    After all that said … then Toyota manages to consistantly score strongly in Quality/Customer Satisfaction surveys, report record sales and constant evoloving recognition for thier products.

    I ask … were is Holdens/Ford competitor against the Prado, 70 / 200 series, Prius, Tarago or any example in the Lexus lineup – simple, there isn’t and when they do offer competition, Toyota usually does a better job anyway with an array of surveys published last year alone proving that exact thing.

    Fact is Tonyn … on the grand scale of the market – there is no other company that has the talents to be as wisespread yet consistantly competitive and sucessful as ‘The Big T’ and that is a fact.

    So no matter what market you speak of, Toyota is there with consistantly solid and competitve vehicles no matter what. Talk Holden and you only really refer to the Commodore or HSV and no much different with Ford. However … talk Toyota and the odds are – Toyota/Lexus is mentioned every time no matter the market.

    oh yeah … despite Toyota’s talents stretched right across the entire different segments of the market and that they sell sh8t loads more cars then Holden and Ford (sometimes with thier sales combined on given months) Toyota still manages to engineer a higher quality and more reliable product then that of many competitors.

    So Tonyn … who really has the true automotive talents here – Holden/Ford or Toyota . That shouldn’t be hard to answer !!

    Oh yeah – just to let you know … i worked in the auto indusrty myself from 1997 – 2002 in Spare Parts myself for Shacks Holden in Western Australia so don’t even start with the lazy arse crap that you can challenge me about automotive knowlodge because fact will be … you carn’t and you won’t !!

  25. Bavarian … first things first – i never got kicked off this site and let me make that clear. Secondly – i have never (and never will be) been cornered by yourself because your talents simple do not challenge much beyond bullsh8t arguements.

    Fact is Wallowing Missile … you are here to stir sh*t as much as the next party yet when challenged you crumble and then start wallowing away with all sorts of circus acts.

    You are a hyrocrite … PERIOD !!

    Wether in retaliation or not – abusive behaviour on your behalf is abusive behaviour no matter what which means you should start cleaning up your own act before starting with the pussy crap you carry on with from time to time.

    And lets admit it … Lexus is taking the challenge right to the M3 and probably do a damn impressive job of it which means your arguements against Toyota/Lexus dwindles even further and that alone limits your abilities to be a smart as*e against Toyota … PURE & SIMPLE !!

    If you want to persist being an idiot then thats how bloggers should and will treat you. However … if you can manage the ability to actually have a constructive and unbias debate then may be i can extend the same.

    Trust me Bavarain – i am not an idiot yet i treat clowns like clowns.

  26. oh yeah – wouldn’t a FWD Camry have understeer not over !!

    And you call yourself an enthusiasts. Sounds like you carn’t drive a car full stop.

    And you know another dead give away for a loser – those who keep raving on about having garages full of all sorts of exotic cars not to mention drive BMWs, Audi’s and what not !!

    You are a classic clown.

  27. tonyn says:

    didnt i say what toyota do well is spread them selfs over a range of categorys???

    Spare parts is a small part of the equation in the motor trade, i started as a mechanic, worked up to spares, then fixed operations manager, then went to sales, sales manager, thens to general sales manager. the only thing i didnt do is own the place. so now who has a greater knowledge of the motor trade? if you were so knowledgable why werent shacks holden begging you to stay and become the GM of the place?

    Ive been to germany several times and driven the worlds best side by side with lexus, believe me when i tell you this if you cop lexus as a luxury brand your having your self on! all your buying is a rebadged camry and then believeing your buying a better engineered peoduct. your just as biased as the rest of us!

    As for the W427, totally agree, it is over priced, but how do you know they havent done something special with it? as your well aware people buy overpriced toyotas every day…. there called lexus’s!!! lexus are that lazy they cant even change the shape of the landcruiser and then charge huge amounts more for what is no more than a sahara!!

    While toyota is doing a good job at spreading them selfs, maybe you should look at fords range

    Fiesta = yaris
    Focus = corolla
    Focus Diesel = Prius
    mondeo = camry
    Falcon = aurion
    Territory = kluger
    Ranger = Hilux
    transit = hi ace
    Transit bus = Commuter

    Only the 4wds is where ford is lacking, even volkswagen is close

    Polo = yaris
    Golf = Corolla
    EOS = sorry no toyota competion
    Beetle+ sorry no toyota competion
    Jetta = camry
    Passat = aurion
    Tiguan = rav 4
    Touareg = landcruiser
    and there wholemodel range comes in diesel to challenge prius!

    R series VW = TRd
    FPV = TRD

    So maybe if people look past marketing they might see competitors! or is it just they have rested on there laurels!

    Also sounds like you are jealous that people have better cars than you…. i think you are the classic clown!

    I am in the process of replacing my VE, and once again have driven the big 3, VE SSv, TRD aurion and had the lucky chance to drive the FG XR6t and XR8, and ill tell you theres only one choice for my drive way and toyota doesnt even come close, youll be in for a shock with the new falcon is every bit as good as your over priced camry the call is250.

  28. Phill says:

  29. Carl says:

    BM, Guess who comes across as an emotional cripple with a lot of bottled anger who feels the need to try and bully people on the web because he is probably impotent and or gets bashed by his boss, wife and kids!!!!!

    Anyway you keep kicking his arse with your replies cos it makes us all laugh to see a chauvinist coward like him getting put in his place by a real woman!!!

  30. tonyn says:

    good one carl you brought a smile to my face with that!!!

  31. Carl says:

    Thanx Tonyn, I’ve already braced my self for the rant that must surely be on it’s way from guess who!!!!

  32. tonyn says:

    yeah im going to take a bex and a good lie down before the next toyota roundabout rant!

  33. hey carl … weren’t you the cripple trying to bully another blogger yesterday.

    mmmm … another wacked out hypocRite

    Tonyn … fairdinkum – i believe absloutelY nothing of your rot … absolutely nothing !!

    oh yeah – you mention if people open thier eyes they will see competitors. EXACTLY – that’s why Holden and Ford sales are at all new lows because the market recognises the competition with Toyota taking almost a 1/4 of that alone.

    ps… what competition has Holden and Ford got against each and every vehicle in the Lexus lineup – any compelling reason why missed that or is it because they simply don’t have any.

    Lets face it Tonyn – Toyota as an entire company has got it all over the likes of Holden and Ford … PERIOD – with thier sales, diverse fleet, reputation for quality and reliability and customer satsifaction surveys all in Toyota favour by a country mile.

    While Toyota keeps gaining, Holden/Ford keep dwindling – FACT !!

  34. OH WHAT A FEELING … TOYOTA

  35. Carl says:

    That was you… who waka…. please try and keep up with your own fake names!!! LOL

  36. Carl says:

    Hey Waka, for someone who claims to be with the best car company in the world and all of the rest of us a bunch of losers for not thinking like you……..you seem pretty stressed out!!!!

  37. tonyn says:

    why would ford have a competetor for lexus, its not marketed that way, GT-E will compete with is-f.

    What does toyota have to compete with lexus? its the same stupid question you just asked of ford and holden!

    What gets me is you want me to say nice things about toyota yet you are not willing to do the same of ford or holden, so why are you fighting me when you are not leading by example?

    To me you sound like a sad little man who has to creat caracters on here to agree with you about toyota, and think your tough, sad sad little man, thats all you are!

    You dont believe what i say? i think i upset you a little with guessing the truth about you, since you have been on here you have been a spare parts bloke, SAS soldgier, a miner, your just a joke, can you keep up with your name and job changes?

    End of the day, there was another blogger on here who brought up the cost of owning a hybrid from construction to wreck and its is a lot worse than owning a diesel OR petrol car.

  38. tonyn says:

    and ford overseas has mercury and lincon, which in your beloved “jd power” servey rated quite high didnt they, perhaps above lexus?????

  39. Bavarian Missile says:

    Let me make it clear DINGO…..yes you did get kicked off the site.I know that for a fact.Oh and why else would you return under another name,again.

    Thanks Carl but this guy just isn’t worth the effort hes a hero in his own mind who backs up nothing except with statistics and not real life experiences or a broad knowledge of anything except that of Toyota.

    Just ignore the twerp……. clearly I have upset his ego.didumms!

    Hes schizophrenic Tonyn…..so I have no idea what personality he’ll come back with to answer us,my guess its abuse,so more like Dingo.

  40. Here here MISSILE…I second the motion.

  41. No Name says:

    Guess Who – must admit you must be bloody good at typing. But you’re ranting mate.

  42. Tonyn … joined the Navy in 1990 and discharged in 1997 while based at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia and was apart of the decommissioning crew on Swan.

    Scored a crappy job in spare parts for Shacks Holden from 1997 to 2002 before moving to Queensland to be closer to the parents. From there i have been employed by Rio Tinto in a Central Queensland mine ever sense.

    TRG/SAS … what’s wrong with that story – i liked it !!

    Now .. back to cars – the fact is Tonyn – Toyota Motor Corporation is argueably the worlds most influencial automotive manufactuer in modern times.

    Yes they have worts just like everysingle other manufactuer but lets be frank at the same time … no other car company in recent years have evolved as much as TMC.

    Today – Toyota exhibits a very well balanced mainstream fleet that spans every segment from small cars to heavy, rugged off-road vehciles and everything in between. In support of that – thier cars are highly competitive across all facets of a well engineered/balanced vehicle.

    That said – only 20 years ago they began the Lexus project that has evolved to what it is renouned for today not mention that they are now in pursuit of greater performance recogniton with examples like the IS-F and LF-A sure to satisfy that very challenge.

    Then comes TRD – has been a fairly sedated arm for many years but TMC is now in full pursuit to place it otherwise with motorsports and enhanced cars all coming online.

    As i have mentioned – Craftsman Trucks as with the regular NASCAR series is moving strongly for them despite challenging the Americans at thier own game on thier own soil. F1 has proven more complex then anticipated but regardless – such involvment in the pinnacle of all automotive engineering has enabled TMC to gain experiance and knowledge that otherwise they would not have.

    Then comes thier hybrid regime. A highly debatable evolution but regardless Toyota has stuck to thier guns otherwise with once critics of such a project (eg GM) now persuing the same avenue themselves not to mention the marketing recognition and profits that has come with it.

    In all honesty … i respect brands such as Toyota because i admire how they have taken on some the hardest, most complex and challenging competitors of all and now most of those undertakings (not all such as F1) are becoming successful and somewhat lucarative achievements for them.

    Seriuosly … think about each and every project that TMC has committed itself to in the past few years as it is a damn lot more then any other individual automotive company i can think off.

    Better still – in America alone, Toyota has challenged the very heartland of American motoring such as the Pick-Up market with a growing respect and following for the Tundra Truck and of course competing in the NASCAR Series. And it doesn’t stop there because Toyota has also been successful in toppling Ford and Crysler on thier very own turf.

    In Australia – Toyota has grown incredibly strong holding almost a 1/4 of the market to themselves and making a habit of outselling Holden and Ford combined.

    Then comes Lexus – again has been a challenging undertaking yet today is one of the most respected and renouned marques of all taking the challenge right to the door step of the Germans as Toyota has done to the Yanks and that alone is no small/easy feat. Gotta give credit were credit is due especialy considering Lexus is the only Japenese attempt to be successful in the prestiage market.

    On thier final frontier remains motorsport and performance cars. As mentioned they have been rightfully critised for lack of participation yet in recent times we have witnessed a slow yet confident resurrgence back into the league.

    Examples from TRD, Lexus with the IS-F and LF-A as with Toyota’s FT-HS and AE86 amoung others as with greater participation in variuos motorsport events are all proving positive projects.

    Despite all the enormous challenges TMC has indulged into not to mention maintaining a highly competitive and broad spanding fleet … Toyota has been able to remain the most efficent and profitable automotive manufactuer of all that has infact boosted them as todays No.1 most wealthiest auto group of all.

    Thier wealth today is greater then that of GM, Ford and Crysler combined returning mult-billion dollar profits while the American owned trio return mult-billion dollar losses. And despite some quality hiccups and increased recalls in recent times they have been able to remain strong in the vast array of quality and customer satisfaction surveys that are frequently published.

    So … for all it’s worth – thats why i respect Toyota because it’s not so much WHO they are but WHAT they do !!

    Cheers

    Tonyn biodiesel will never work, what is the machinery that makes it going to run on? What land is going to be used? Hydrogen cell is the way… then electric. Diesel in no shape or form is going to be sustainable into the future.

  48. Emma – McDonalds don’t win awards do they not are they respected for quality products.

    Maybe you should be thinking of Holden and Ford when it comes comparisons to Macca’s because they are all of the same dismal standards.

    Anyway – peace fellow bloggers because i’m outta here until sometime next week.

    On annual leave at the moment and heading to Longreach for a few days R&R and to visit the Qantas Museum which has a 747-200 and a 707-100 as static displays that are open for tours each and everyday of the week. Spending some time in Emerald on the way out aswell.
