Audi TT 2007 Launched

Yes, the new audi is actually here... well, almost. The end of Novemebr is going to be a very special time for a few lucky to be Audi TT owners as deliveries commence. For those of us who want an Audi TT, i'd recommend running into your nearest Audi Dealership and parting with your hard earned cash right now! This car is going to be an attention magnet!

Three variants are available at launch in Australia including;

  • Audi TT 8J Coupe 2.0 T FSI manual, 147kW Rrp $68,900
  • Audi TT 8J Coupe 2.0 T FSI S tronic, 147 kW Rrp $72,500
  • Audi TT 8J Coupe 3.2 quattro S tronic, 184 kW Rrp $88,900

Unfortunately, Australia is not on the receiving end of the Audi TT Diesel. No official word from Audi in regards to the Diesel variant, but something tells me, its not coming for a while (update - Audi has informed us that it is too early to know if the Diesel variant will make its way to Australia).

Two transmissions are available, the race-bred S tronic, dual clutch version available in the 2.0 TFSI and V6 models, as well as a sporty, 6-speed manual version for the 2.0 TFSI only. Its a shame the 3.2 Litre doesn't come with a manual. Nevertheless the Dual Clutch auto is a great gearbox.

It is anticipated that the new TT will be even more successful in Australia says Audi Australia's Managing Director, Joerg Hofmann.

"The new Audi TT is a clear leader in terms of its design and its sporty performance. It will be a very important model for Australia and we expect the arrival of the new TT to boost both our sales and our image in this country.

"The original Audi TT succeeded in boosting the Audi brand name exponentially, and now this new model will add to Audi's growing profile in Australia. It will undoubtedly help us to reach our next sales record," Mr Hofmann added.

Audi Australia expects to sell more than 400 units annually, so if you want to be one of the lucky 400 this year, hurry up! The new generation TT Coupe is now even more expressive in its appearance. Its defining element is the single frame grille, surrounded by a narrow chrome strip, immediately tying this new TT to the very latest generation of Audi design.

The new TT is now longer and broader than its predecessor, emphasising its sportscar proportions and adding stability. Compared with the old Audi TT the roof has been repositioned further towards the rear and the tail extends further back and now boasts a speed-activated retractable spoiler.

The design team for the new Audi TT was headed by team leader, Gary Telaak. According to Telaak, they focussed on one major question when faced with the task of redesigning this model.

"The first question we asked ourselves was of course how to approach a design icon such as this. We soon realised that further development would call for respect and a sense of the car's worth," Telaak said.

"The Audi TT has a clear genetic code that defines its proportions and forms. The simple addition of circles and spheres creates an unmistakeable, pragmatic basic form.

"It is this basis, with its high recognition value, that everyone associates with the Audi TT. We chose specific elements from this genetic code and reinterpreted them systematically - an evolution process that retained all the essential lines that the Audi TT needs to identify itself," he added.

The engines are the basis for sporty performance for which the brand is well-known. The new TT boasts both a high torque, spontaneous direct petrol injection engine in the 2.0 TFSI with 147 kW, as well as a powerful 184 kW V6 version in the 3.2 quattro.

Sportiness is not only reflected in the engines or the design of the TT, but also in its genetic make-up. A new Audi Space Frame ASF structure combines aluminium and steel componentry which add to body strength and rigidity, ensuring a dynamic drive and ride.

The TT also heralds the introduction of Audi Magnetic Ride, an innovative suspension system that adapts damping automatically and continuously to the actual driving conditions. Damping takes place in fractions of a second depending on road conditions and how the car is being driven, benefiting driving dynamics and ride comfort.
