The world’s most successful manufacturer, has come out with an ultra-compact iQ concept. Toyota believes the iQ represents the needs of inner-city motorists looking for a compact, reliable, short and environmentally friendly vehicle.

Best suited to the small streets of Europe, the iQ was developed at Toyota’s advanced European design studio in the south of France.  Less than three meters in length (770mm shorter than the Yaris and nearly 1M shorter than the new Mazda2), the IQ appears small from the outside, but it can seat four adults (or three adults and luggage space).

The exterior is nothing over the top, meaning there is a good chance Toyota will bring out a production model in the future, from the photos it’s obvious the width of the vehicle is a great contrast with its short length.

This looks like the production car then. Ho-hum. They’ve done better.

  2. Les says:

You have to marvel at Toyota for being able to enter every segment virtually so quickly!! with quite possibly better products than their founders!

  3. ShaunL says:

I don’t know how they did it but apparently this meets NCAP 5 star ratings. It must be built like a brick sh*thouse.

  4. Realcars says:

Doesn’t matter what NCAP rating it has if it collides with a Landcruiser!

  5. Duck says:

I wonder what the size of the engine will be!

  6. Andrew M says:

i definately think toyota can hit the right spot with this vehicle.

im sure there would be plenty of city going uni travellers that would opt for such a vehicle.

my biggest question is how will they price it?
are they trying to enter a sub $10K vehicle to the market?

yeah buggers me how they reached 5 star safety ratings (if they did)
stars obviously cant be compared between categories.
i mean you cant tell me you would rather be in a high 5 star rated focus over a 4 star rated falcon if you were to have a prang.
    same goes for this……..
would you rather be in this apparent 5 star shoe box rather than a 4 star Aurion if you were set to have a prang……….

  7. No Name says:

Now this is good, a stab at the Smart Car. Very worthy. TP do you know anthing on this, Hybrid or not. Where are you mate.

  8. Andrew M says:

    no name i agree,
i cant believe it took so long for someone else to have a stab at the smart car.

  9. Duck says:

How much would this sell for? Cheaper than a baseline 3 door yaris?

  10. FORD says:

How ugly can u get, Toy-mota is an appropiate name for a grandparent car builder..

  11. Matt says:

I think the iQ will give the Smart a nice run. Way better looking.

    Ford stock price = $5
    Toyota stock price = $100

Um….yeah, which company is selling more cars?

  12. Oz. says:

These cars would be a little inconvenient in Australia. Only 2 seats, don’t need cars to be this small, etc.

Sure most super cars have 2 seats as well, but they something you admire but the Smart For2’s and Toyota IQ’s you don’t.

  13. Ian says:

The iQ does look great but it’s just hit the streets over here in the UK with a price tag of £9255 and that’s for the entry level model!

It’s hard to imagine – even with the economy it returns and the fact it’s road tax exempt – that many will trade in their old cars for the iQ.
