Ford Kuga 2008 Geneva Motor Show
Inspired by the iosis X Concept that was revealed at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, Ford has styled the 4WD crossover as part of the company’s new Kinetic Design. With the ability to switch between 4WD and FWD, the Kuga is designed completely by Ford Europe.
Ford is offering a hybrid engine in the Kuga, with the engine range expanding to include a four-cylinder petrol and diesel units.
The Kuga concept only manages 136hp (102kW) from its 2.0-litre diesel engine, coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Bring it here ASAP. With the popularity of the segment, Ford needs to have a compact SUV. Put the 2.2 TDCi in it that is coming for the Mondeo and it’ll be a cracker.

sure does look better than the very outdated looking escape, although i have been set straight in that the escape is quite a good vehicle as it stands.
im assuming this doesnt have any Mazda DNA……….
so if its heading the same way as the mondeo then it would be another great car.

Adam its not far away from being on ale where I live mate. The public have viewed it. I’m just saying whats with the hype with SUV. They are more expensive to buy, smaller, less practical for the money. Think about it, does this do anymore than say a Focus thats $15K cheaper. answer NO. You could buy a bigger Mondeo at the same price. Just my opinion

i know they are on the ford UK site but they are only listed as future models. only 4-6months ago they were still calling it a “concept”.
so when is the release date for the UK?
you only need to look at what is selling at the moment to realise that it wont be a waste of time if it is marketed properly here.
sorry to upset your way of thinking but right here people dont care about the economics or practicality of a vehicle.
bottom line is these things are selling here in numbers

This Beauty has Great body lines, Ford has done it again excellent job, Ford stands for fresh ideas, innovation, quality euro design, they just keep pumping out cars that people want, will be proud of and not have worry about putting on a cardigan feeling like their Toyota driving grand parents feeling outdated and dull, eewwww YUKKKKKKK………

TP…maintain cobber. The Aurion I like and is not bad, I like the Sportivo and is classy! Ford Falcon is now up there and cant wait to see review to see if real improvement with old chassis! Like I said….if another car maker had a LPG only dedicated motor and not dual fuel, I would buy! WHERE ARE THEY…AS THERE ARENT ANY OTHER THEN FORD!

I havent ‘been driven by one yet ‘ but agree with TP,it does look like a Captiva but in a good way. Its as good a suv as i have seen and if they can improve on the build quality that we see on the territory, than ford might be on a winner.

Or maybe we should direct a film called AMERICAN PIE 69 with ANDREW M as DIRECTOR and TP as main character. It will be a story of a young lad with bottle coke rimmed spectacles (TP) finding the car landscape does consist of a lot of car makers (other then Toyota) and having issues with car makers outside of Toyota world…and in his elusive search for some physical action of the opposite gender and all things in between. The car in my opinion is wearing smidgeon thinner….to me the lights at top are pulled back too far and bonnet is too upright forward. Sort of clashes a tad here. Ford seem to be obsessed with this kinetic look a lot too. Still like it must admit!

The other distinct problem with Ford is this new Euro inspired Kinetic design is at odds with American Fords…go look at USA Ford website as no Kinetic designs there and very ordinary cars!

I agree with You Maximus, it is a european thing, have a look at the Uk ford website, the ‘look’ is totally family. Problem with Australia is it USA pacific, yes geographically, but there a strong European influence in attitude.

I think the back is pretty similar to the Captiva, front is more like the new smaller Volvo SUV. Massive improvement on the Escape. Do they still sell that? I never see them on the road.

Where does it look the same put your glasses back on, have another good look at rear of the Craptiva, the lights shaped differently, rear side glass is rounded, Captiva has larger panel wheel arch flares, I think your confused with another model, man I’m wasting my time here good bye..

I can see some similarities, too. Agree with Duck, and you can add wheel arches (sorry FORD!) and the little vent behind the front wheel to the list.
Essentially, it’s its own car, however, and a very good looking one. Much better than Captiva Maxx (I like that one), which in turn is much better than other Captivas.

Similarities are too small and minor to compare with any SUV before it, Ford is individual, new, higher standards = FULL STOP. CHALK AND CHEESE (sorry Golf) but I don’t agree at all, When the Kuga goes on the market Captiva will have nothing over the Kuga..

i thought initially when i saw this vehicle that yes it did look captiva’ish from the rear but certainly not the front.
i have just opened up photos of the rear of the captiva and kuga and looked at them side by side.
the rears look nothing a like now that i have compared them properly.
even the roofline is no where near the same.
the roof line dives away heavily on the kuga at the rear and much more than the captiva.
also the door sills on the captiva are much higher and the captivas general stance seems to ascend from front to rear much more than the kuga.
and then the front…….
well say no more…….
the front on the kuga is far more stylish and as i keep looking back at the captiva photos the captiva is starting to look seriously bland and outdated.
there is one thing i dont agree on with “FORD” (the guy who comments under that name) and that is “Go Jamie Whincup”

the bottom at the rear is totally different to the captiva.
the rear bumper on the captiva wraps up the car and bulges out much more than the kugas bar. on the kuga the rear flows a little more freely from the top to bottom

Given that its based on a shared floor pan with Vovlo and has Vovlo 4wd running gear its not really a surprise that its similar to the forthcoming xc60.
