Porsche 911 GT3 RS Limited Edition 4.0-litre: rumour

By Brett Davis |

Rumours are currently spreading the web saying Porsche is about to launch a special Porsche GT3 RS Limited Edition model that comes with a more powerful 4.0-litre, 373kW flat-six. Rumour has it the Limited Edition will be unveiled in around four weeks’ time on April 7.

According to a Teamspeed forum member, the new Porsche is set to go on sale in May and will be limited to just 500 units. The Limited Edition isn’t expected to be delivered to the first buyers until some time in July. The news has frustrated som fans, however, as the GT3 RS is already meant to be a limited edition. Porsche fans say this new model would undercut the exclusivity.

Although the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is generally regarded as the fastest track-ready, road-registered 911 money can buy – apart from the seriously wicked Porsche 911 GT2 RS – its 3.8-litre flat-six that outputs 331kW is apparently not good enough. The alleged new 4.0-litre engine is expected to crack the magic 500hp barrier (373kW) in normally aspirated form for the first time.

This means the new GT3 RS Limited Edition should be capable of digging into the three-second range for 0-100km/h sprints, as the already-potent GT3 RS will do it in 4.0 seconds flat. A top speed of more than 300km/h is also expected.

It’s unknown if the special edition will feature any visual revisions over the standard GT3 RS, as it’s all just a rumour. Some reports say the car will be based on the wide-body chassis of the turbocharged models, meaning it’ll also feature a large air intake in the rear haunches.

We’ll have to wait and see if it’s reality or just a Porsche fan’s dream to know for sure. Stay tuned.

Rumour also has it the 998 Carrera S will have 4.0L displacement when it is revealed in September at the Frankfurt show.

I dont think it will offer 373kw, but it will certainly have more power than the 997 Carrera S.

Where did you hear this rumour. Though it would be great to hear, I’m a bit doubtful at this because logic tells me that it would be hard for Porsche to reduce fuel consumption on the previous model (as they have always done with each new model).

I can’t wait for the 998 debut! It’s always great to see how designs evolve over the years (I.E. Ferrari 355-360-430-458) Should be great!

I know this would be pure idiocracy…and would probably end in disaster… but i think it would be interesting to see what a turbo / supercharged version of the 4 liter could do :P

    Antispam- Porsche :P
