Mitsubishi Lancer 2008

If it wasn’t for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution series, the boring old Lancer would have died of sometime ago. I don’t have a problem with the Mitsubishi Evos, (although owning an equivalent Subaru gives me a sense of resentment), but as far the lancers go, they just don’t do it for me. They are too boring, and the ones that look good, are all wannabe Evos, or better known these days as ThiEVOes.

Mitsubishi is in some serious trouble. Their cars just aren’t selling, the Mitsubishi 380 has been a big disappointment and despite the logical “people don’t need family cars” feeling in the consumer market these days, Mitsubishi Australia have stuck to their guns claiming better days ahead. So whilst I hope Mitsubishi Australia doesn’t fail, close up shop and bail out of Australia (as reports have suggested), I am far more eager on what the global arm of Mitsubishi is up to. E.g. this beauty:

Yep, thats the new Lancer, apparently.  I am sure come 2008 I am going to look at this post and have a laugh as to how different the actual production car looks to the beast above. Mind you, shots of the current evolution 10 look relatively similar.

So here is to Mitsubishi actually making a car that looks good! And one that might actually sell

  1. 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR &raquo Australian Car Advice & News Blog Says:

[…] Its good to see that Mitsubishi have followed Subaru’s approach to bring out an affordable Tubro car, adding to the line up which now includes the likes of the Ralliart Colt which we recently road tested. I posted a few articles of the 2008 Lancer here and here. The 08 model is set to come with a boring 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine putting out around 125kW. Whilst Australia will most likely miss out on the 1.5-litre and diesel variants which will be on offer in Europe. […]

Great Looking car. Front Design evokes feel of the 60’s Mustangs. But aggressive front means it will put off conservative buyers of the standard models, so may not have mass appeal. If only the new 380 looked more like this instead of the Bland Box U.S. Gallant we have currently.

They’re selling the CH sportswagen for a short while yet but there will be no CJ wagon because they’re selling the outlander which is on the same platform.

Speaking to a sales rep today he mentioned mitsu are “streamlining” models. Expect colt to be mini hatch only, Lancer to be sedan, hatch and hero, outlander as small suv/sportswagon.

I’m currently buying a CJ ES and it was odd, I mentioned the tyre noise and instantly got offered “sound deadening” material for the boot..
