After looking at that Alfa interior, a little bit of vomit came up. I would give it 2 days before something fell slash broke off.

Ca another brilliant review in your new format; but just for the sake of it, could you guys maybe declare your favourite.

I’m curious about why the DS3 has fuel consumption so much worse than the Mini. I thought they had pretty much the same engine, and the Mini is heavier?

    • http://Caradvice aussieitalian

I agree Phil. I thought that the joint PSA-BMW 1.6 was in both these vehicles? A noticeable difference in the output, but quite close in the 0 – 100 part.
Love the look of the DS3, but that alfa? Whatever happened to the sublime and sleek 164? The Alfa Alfetta GTV, and even the Sprint – that cross-eyed MiTo looks like a parakeet on the front. Why didn’t they collaborate with Bertone, Pininfarina or some other design house? why?

i think they DID share an engine, now though i think the mini’s 1.6 is all BMW.

  • Mark

From memory the dealer charges for both the alfa and the DS3 pushes both their prices north of 40K

    • DLR1

Yes, but all are list prices. That also pushes the mini towards/above $45K

  • save it for the track

‘Beauty’ is in the eye of the beholder. A ‘sexy’ hatch to me is one that steers and handles well, and is not necessarily the quickest in a straight line. For not much more than the Mini, one can have a Megane RS 250 (quicker in a straight line and around corners), and in the same size class the much more capable Clio RS200 (quicker around corners and any track you’d care to name). I also do not like the look of either the DS3 or the Mito.

agree, as usual the writer doesnt do a fair comparision of available cars. Why hang onto the fringes instead of completing a proper tell all review.

The $900 Chilli package for the Mini is pretty damn good value for money based on the options you get. The car overall is still overpriced, but adding all that in for 9 bills…climate control, Harmon Kardon sound system, cloth/leather combination upholstery, 17-inch alloy wheels and bi-xenon headlights….not too shabby.

  • Innocent Bystander

I’d take the Alfa. Best all-around package. None of the cars here really look that good though.

I’ve had the Mito for a couple of months now and I’m very happy with it. I had high hopes for the DS3 but in the end after a test drive I found the best I could say was that is was “Nice.” The Alfa I found to be much closer to the experience I was after. So far I have found it to be a great car and nothing has fallen off. ;)
