New Mazda2 three-door hatchback

Building on the amazing success of its latest and hottest little hatch, Mazda has unveiled its new three-door Mazda2 range.

A rare and highly desirable combination, the Mazda2 three-door has the unique position as both a versatile city car and stylish pseudo-sports hatch.

To debut the new three-door Mazda2 range, Mazda will showcase a unique sports adaptation at the Geneva Motor Show featuring a red mica exterior, lowered suspension, wider tread, projector-type headlamps and special 16-inch colour wheels.

On the inside, the show car will sport Recaro bucket seats in a racy red and black two-tone, and matching red stitching on the leather steering wheel with a painted bezel.

The standard three-door Mazda2 line-up will be available with a range of low consumption and low CO2 emissions engines with the MZR 1.5-litre and 1.3-litre petrol variants, as well as a 1.4-litre MZ-CD diesel.

The MZR 1.5-litre produces maximum power of 76kW at 6000rpm and 137Nm at 4000rpm, using only 5.9 litres of fuel per 100 km (combined), and producing just 140 g/km of CO2.

The MZR 1.3-litre petrol is available in both a standard and high power version, developing 55kW and 121NM, and 63kW and 122Nm respectively.

Both derivatives of the MZR 1.3-litre petrol use just 5.4 litres of fuel per 100 km (combined) and produce just 129 g/km of CO2.

The MZ-CD 1.4-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine develops 50kW at 4000rpm and 160Nm from a low 2000rpm. Expectedly, fuel consumption is the lowest at just 4.3 litres fuel per 100 km (combined) and produces a very low 114 g/km of CO2.

A five speed manual transmission is standard for all engine variants.

The Mazda2 three-door hatchback will be offered in three grades, fully catering for young drivers. This includes emote central locking, electric adjustable side mirrors, electric power assist steering and ABS as standard.

Higher models add six airbags, heated and retractable door mirrors, 15 or 16-inch aluminium alloy wheels, manual or automatic air-conditioning, power front windows, rain and light sensor system, adjustable speed warning system, cruise control (1.5-litre petrol with board computer only), dynamic stability control (DSC), and keyless entry and start system, among other features.
