2009 Volkswagen Scirocco leaked

March 3, 2008 by George Skentzos

The production Volkswagen Scirocco has been revealed after leaked official images appeared on the web ahead of the embargo set for its official debut at the Geneva motor show.

2009 Volkswagen Scirocco leaked

The Scirocco marks a new era in Volkswagen design, completely disassociated from typical VW design trademarks.

Derived from the Iroc concept, CarAdvice has previously produced an artists impression of the production Scirocco, however it appears VW has significantly modified the production model from the concept.

Available in a variety of performance derivatives, the Scirocco will feature Volkswagen’s 2.0 TSI engine, along with a turbocharged GTi model. A flagship V6 model is also a possibility, with the Scirocco offered with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.

Looks nice… prefer this style over current VW hatches.

  2. golfschwein says:

I’m a bit disappointed. Looks like a thick-pillared, low-roof van. The original Scirocco is the prettiest and the best, I’ve decided.

  3. Kris says:

Looks a very sweet car to me and it will be a good seller for sure. Definitely sleeker than anything VW have in their range at the moment.

  4. Lcat says:

    ^^With you there 100% Golf.
I wasn’t totally convinced by the Iroc grill but it was unique. The front is now bland and at first glance reminded me of the Toyota Paseo!
Personally I think VW should have tried a retro of the MK1.
The original was absolutely stunning when it launched mid 70’s

  5. Myke says:

Overall it is a very nice looking car. Apart from that ugly grille, it looks very unvolkswagen.

  6. f1worldchamp says:

I think it looks awesome. I think any of the traditional VW design cues would have looked odd. It works as a package. How many they sell depends on the pricing. I should only be 4 or 5 thousand more than the equilivent engine in the Golf. I think a ‘Scirocco GTI’ at about 45k would be fantastic.

  7. Duck says:

    Dont like the grill!

  8. azza85 says:

It works as a package but it does remind me of the American cars produced during the 90s (Ford Contour), very curvy front.

  9. Realcars says:

Looks nearly as good as a BRERA.

  10. o says:

ok vw change the grill back and noone getrs hurt it is growing on me but still i liked the old one

  11. Wheelnut says:

I Like it.. Infact I was just thinking that this is what the front end of the new Subaru Impreza should have looked like as the sweep of the headlights is almost the same.

having said that I would have preferred it if they made it look more like the IROC concept car.. yet I guess The Mitsubishi Evo / Ralliart RS beat em to it

  12. No Name says:

Duck – what grill don’t you like. Each picture has a different grill.
Me like but it has some fiat bravo styling cues to the rear side view. Nothing new. Nice interior.
What ever happened to the Corrado, a great car in its time.

  13. moe s15 says:

u can see the audi in it (lights, front bar)
    but thats a good thing

  14. Anthonii says:

    Can you say “Audi”?

  15. Bucket (Formerly Known as Chris) says:

The Front screams R8…But I don’t like it for some reason

  16. Nick says:

i love it! might have to trade in the golf gti for it one day!

  17. Kenzo says:

if the golf gti was an expensive golf, then this is an expensive golf gti.

like someone said, unless its about 5k aud more than the gti, then its not worth buying.

  18. Neo Utopia says:

I think a slightly more aggressive grill should be on the more powerful r line model with 4 motion and the more sedate grill on the 2wd lower powered model, just like Audi does. Speaking of Audi, i think it hints a little bit of Audi in its presence. Adding to that i think it even looks a little bit contemporary Japanesque, but mostly neo Germanic. I’d seriously buy one if i didn’t have any kids in a few years time. I think they should offer it in Lamborghini orange or the red shade on the Audi R12 concept, very über cool colours!

  19. ベリー says:

They need to bring this car to Oz. I reckon it is magic, definitely better than a box on wheels GTI and R32.

  20. ベリー says:

For those people that are confused, white car is the production one, other one is the proto.

  21. nero says:

    looks like audi R8

  22. Frank says:

If this model ever makes it here, VW can make the Golf a full time 4 door – there will be no need to bring in the 2 door Golf. When is it coming to Australia?…
