Melbourne Motor Show: Skoda stand
February 29, 2008 by Matt Brogan
New kid on the block Skoda has done well to present a wide variety of their somewhat limited range at this year’s show, safely tucked under the wing of VW’s mother stand.
Starring the Yeti concept vehicle (pictured), Roomster van, and classy Octavia sedan and wagon range the Skoda stand really is worth a look in, especially for prospective Volkswagen buyers who can’t quite stretch the budget.

OMG skoda we are sic of the yeti just build it already
Build it and sell it!
Whither the Fabia?
No New Superb – probably due to it not being released in Europe yet.
The best kept Skoda secret is the 1.8TFSI Octavia. Skoda got this engine & released it in Aus before Audi even got it for the new A4! It is a stunner by all accounts with close to GTi
performance with exceptional economy.
yes i saw octavia at bims and was absolutely stuned it looks so much better in the metal and is absolutly huge boot and interior i was much more comfotable in it than commodore to bad my parents have already ordered a 5 sereies but his is what i am going to buy in the next few months
You’ll be pleased to know CarAdvice is testing the entire Skoda range over the coming weeks – so far it’s been very impressive. Reviews will be up soon, so stay tuned.
I remember when skoda use to build, well, rubbish!
It was Czech rubbish, maybe they still are?
Anyway Czech girls do-the-buiness, and the beers good and cheap…what more would you want? :-)
Cheers

^^Look forward to the reviews Matt.
Is it possible to also research/report on the available options? I’ve seen comments on other sites mentioning it is possible to option up the suspension/wheel/tyre combos on the Octavias.
Have just planted my bum in a few cars at the show.
The Skodas are right up the top of the quality/value feel and were very popular, with lots of favourable comments.
I actually prefer the Skoda dash layout to the Passat, and although I love the Mazda6, I think the Skoda is better value.
The new Forester was also pretty good.
^ Hey R1 did u compare sitting in the Forester with the Impreza, are the dashes identical?
The picture of the dash looks nice, like a VW.
Hang on! It is a VW!
Phillip, whats your fascination with VW??
Is platform sharing a new concept to you??
holden commodore has been an opel/gm platform for years… (maybe with the exception of the VE)
anyway skoda is a much older brand then vw, and not like the vw has a yeti or a roomster?!
^^well spotted Phillip, (Matt must have dropped it in the Skoda section by mistake – he’s been very busy!)
Sorry Phillip,
I see your point, i thought you were taking a dig at the skoda…
Sorry, Lcat, sat in the Forester and Outback but not the Imprezza. Forester felt quite good, dash looked OK but a bit weird with the “droop” centre section. Outback had the very light trim colour and would show every fly shit if you went outback in it, couldn’t handle that colour, but looked and felt OK as well :)
The new Tribeca looked OK, saw one on the road on the way to the Shed, but shit ! the price is nearly up to $70,000 – what the %^&*#$.
^Thanks R1,
I’d read that the new Forester was built on the Impreza chassis right up to using the same dashboard.
Question is: is it really a new Forester or a jacked up re-suited Impreza?
Sunday 3rd I went with my little son to the Skoda Local Partner in Burwood on Parramatta Rd and looked mainly at the station wagon and would’t have mind a clsoer look, as I wanted to upgrade (salary sacrifice) from my Toyota station wagon. 2 sales persons were in the show room possibly busy over some very important stuff. I was there probabbly for at least 20 minutes. I guess it was just a little early for getting some attention, it was 10.15am. or, perhaps they already have done enough sales for the day.
I recently changed from Subaru to Skoda. I don’t believe Subaru has come in the last five years.
Initial impression of my Octavia 2L TDI DSG wagon…very impressed.
Skoda should perhaps look at motor sport to place the brand in the publics’ eye.
