Melbourne Motor Show: Holden Coupe 60 Concept
February 29, 2008 by George Skentzos
Holden’s best kept secret has finally been revealed, to celebrate its 60th Anniversary it has finally showcased the absolutely brilliant Coupe60.
Inspired by the V8 Supercar, the Coupe60 concept features a pillarless design, full compliment of carbon-fibre bucket seats and race inspired cockpit.
Under the bonnet lurks the 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine calibrated for E85 Ethanol fuel mated to an SS specification 6-speed manual gearbox. The side exiting exhausts bark an engine note more accustomed to a NASCAR.
Riding on 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in semi-slick Kumho rubber, and finished in a handsome Diamond Silver paint finish, the Coupe60 certainly looks the part as a performance car.

Still paying at least 50 cents in the dollar for the luxury. Still isn’t free if it’s legal of course.
Means can lease a new car and turn it over every couple years paying a pretax contribution making it cheaper than private ownership especially if u want to stay up to date. Gotta do at least 15k though otherwise fringe benefit bites.
Never ceases to amaze me how most High Income Earners/ Professionals are often good at what they DO but know jack shit about anything else.
Uneducated Tradie.
P.S How gracious of u to patronise Holden despite your illustrious background.
I have to say, this is one of the most cohesive designs for a car thats come out of Holden I’ve ever seen. The interior especially is just percect. I suppose I’m used to seeing the lavishing of leather gravy that HSV is so renowned for with multicoloured coats, that make this so refreshing. Harking back to the same sort of design at the early Ferrari 308 design, coupled with modern material and tech advanced cluster and finishes. Best I’ve seen from a concept in a long while.
As for the exterior, I keep seeing glimpses of Japanese time attack cars in the front splitter and almost perfectly offset rims. Something I would normally see coming out of Osaka than Fishermans Bend. Well done to the Holden design team. From a die hard Jap car enthusiast, you hit the nail fair and square.
Cheers
Brendan
As usual, plenty of deriders and haters. But this is an excellent looking concept, and a pillarless coupe to boot.
Holden’s far from perfect, but they (and Ford too!) are building cars that other countries are lusting over, particularly the all important US market. They’re doing well and it can only be a good thing for Australia’s reputation.
…the exceptions would be Medical Doctors and Dentists in my experience.
Ease up Realcars……..Im a high income earner….and have a wide range of experiences in life.
Were not all infernal students babe!
Yeah but Unlike GM who has seen what great RWD cars Holden can Design/Build… Ford is still reluctant/refusing to Allow Ford Oz to shine.
I think thy have a “superior inferiority complex”.. They like to think that their US products are Superior and aren’t letting any others in because then the Americans will see just hw Inferior they are compared to ours
There are exceptions of course BM ….
Just defending those of us with dirt under our fingernails and callous on our hands.
Agree what u say about the Yanks.
Seen a Mega Factory Doco on Foxtel once about how the Yanks regurgitate the Abrams Tank. Apparently they haven’t built a brand new one for years just keep reconditioning the current stock. They stip them back to nothing including the paint/ bolts everything and start again in the one huge factory.
Kind of sums up the Yanks approach to manufacturing for me.
Gorgeous motor car!!! All this while ford is unveiling the BF mark 3, AKA the FG. Im a long suffering ford lover. Pull your fingers out Ford, and give us something we’ve been waiting for all our lives lol. GTHO Phase V!!!!! Build it punks, and give it some huge balls.
Wheelnut ………..Love you,,talk tomorrow!
Realcars…….yeah there are exceptions like US!
Nick………..Rod won’t call it phase 5 though! I don’t think Rod has a problem with round things………believe me!
Not wanting to interfere with your lovely Australian cars but that Coupe is decidedly average. It got styling cues from the late nineties Astra Bertone Coupe. Dated. Sorry, just my opinion. I’m sure i’ll chastised for saying it.
Realcars, the M1A2 Abrams probably is such a beasty tank that it never gets blown apart in wars! theres no need to churn new tanks when you have plentiful just give a good freshen up for the next crew, from what I remember is was top 3 if not #1 in the world in that top10 show they used to have during the day on either Sat or Sun, and remembered it had pretty crazy stats on it.
Unfortunately it doesnt go to well with the Blackhawks lol.
Realcars – i hope you wheren’t refering to me in those comments, all i meant by the uneducated tradie comment was that there are alot of elitests out there who think that anyone who likes holdens must be the stereotypical low income earning bogan, i certainly didn’t mean to insinuate that tradies fall into that bracket, i’m sorry if you felt it is.
Mate i spent my first 5 years out of school workin 12-14 hours a day as a courier so i know what it’s like to work hard physical jobs, but mate just because i sit behind a desk now doesn’t mean i don’t work hard!
I just get the shits when people see the car i drive and the suit i wear to work and immediately make assumptions, just the same as you feel when people stereotype you just because of the dirt under your finger nails and callous on your hands…
The only difference is, people dont wish bad will on you mate! But everyday i meet people who hate me purely because of the salary i earn! I had one bitch who i had parked next to come over, look at my car and said “fckin prick in your fancy car, who’d ya rip off to buy that ya fckin asshole!” when i replied “well the taxpayers i guess who funded my public education but i’m guessing you don’t even earn an income let alone pay tax so you wouldn’t fall into that bracket would ya” you should have heard the language coming out of her mouth! Sailors would have run away screamin for their mummies!
UNEDUCATED TRADIE……mate really you people believe every word you spew forth! Get in the real world and dont hassle classes as Iam a builder (LOL courier hard job) and have no time for some chardonnay with biscuit and dip in hand comments followed by a latte!
We aint on here to listen to your chest banging and self praise as we really dont care.
As for the car….what this topic is about, its hot and classy – but still Commodorish front and rear lights and grille. That should of been changed a lot!
On Behalf of Bavarian Missile and Myself; I would like to wish Matt Brogan a Happy 31st Birthday.. Today.
You’re doing an excellent job looking after the site whilst the rest of the boys are travelling the world visiting motorshows etc
Happy Birthday Matt
hahahaha…….great minds think a like honey, just said Happy Birthday as well to Matt.
Matt…happy birthday and doing a splendid job.
WOOO HOOO “LOVE IS IN THE AIR”….cant help but notice last couple comments!
I say Happy birthday too Matt.
If this coup’e goes into production, wouldn’t it have an LS III 6.2? And I doubt if the side pipes would be there.
Yep, belated happy birthday
Oz: I’ve seen pics on the interior, and big and clear is ‘boost’ on the dash, making me believe it’s the 6.2L LS9 supercharged rather than 6.2L LS3, though I doubt it would receive that engine in reality
Chastising awaits, No Name! Not for not liking it, but for spotting an Astra Coupe in there. Where? I remember the Astra Coupe. It was never sold here, but it copped a bit of a sting from the UK press for being a mini-me Calibra, which was a gorgeous looking car.
In profile, the rear passenger windows of both ended in a point rather than the pronounced BMW-like kick.
If there’s anything it bears a passing resemblance to, it’s the recent Opel GTC Concept Coupe, particularly in profile.
No Name was last seen on the same plane as Prince Harry…hehe
Maybe he could ask Prince Harry for an autograph! If he’s sober.
whats with all the happy birthdays? i had one the other day and didnt get a mention ha ha ha ha
If this goes into production which i’m sure it will, Ford will have got a real problem on there hands. The FG will not be able to remotely compete with it nor a derivative of it. The swinging buyer who are not hardened Ford or Holden fans will alway spend there 80K on this rather the equivalent Ford. It’s a shame as Ford are a great product.
ANDREW M…Happy Birthday for the other day mate! Come on others cant leave him out! SLACKOS….Ha Ha Ha
Poor Baby….well you would if you told me when it was Mr Secretive….so how old were you ? 25……..Just a guess!
Happy Birthday for the other day.Hope you had a good one and got lots of presies. So your a Pisces?
gee i love the guessing game……
the only thing u got right was my star sign
about time ha ha ha ha
oh and im not 5ft1 either like you guessed a while ago ha ha ha
ANDREW M…gee just over 5ft! Iam 6ft 4in and medium build and weigh 110kgs! You have not got the rare “SMALL MANS SYNDROME” as I have sighted this in many small men!
Bait cast!
Well I take it you must have Marfan’s Syndrome then Naughtyius?? I mean I am 6″1 but your height is rediculous.
NM,
hey i am not 5ft 1!!!!!!!!!
wait oh yes it was a bait ha ha ha ha
NM,
with your build you should be on biggest loser,
actually arent you a member of the red team?
bait cast…………….
SNAP….gee shivers where did that come from; I cant remove the hook! Ouch.
Ha Ha – syndrome! I have rode bikes in a velodrome…does that count!
Hey I seriously am not fat. But I do like big fat pizzas, there big and there cheesy!
I do own some ripper fishing rods and have many Penn reels. Will put the burley out…as I always do!
Naughtyius – mate you’ve completely missed my point, i was trying to appologise for any offense i had caused by people miss understanding what i was saying. Mate i’m no latte sipper either, my point was that people make assumptions about so called “professionals” just like they do towards tradies, and quite often they are wide of the mark. In my instance, i drive a fancy car that is actually a company car, i don’t own it, and i wear a suit 100% because my job requires me too, not because i want to. Mate i pull in 45k a year, hardly big bloody money! most tradies pull in a fckn lot more then that! That was my point, that people make incorrect judgements on people all the time and its not just against tradies but its against other people too, that was my point, sorry you missed it.
And mate 14 hours a day is a hard job as a courier, don’t forget out of that 14 hours your spending atleast half that time lugging heavy boxes and building equipement around (i wasn’t a bloody letter courier, i carried heavy stuff) and i didn’t sit back having a forklift unloud me either, it was all done by hand. I’ve worked as a labourer on a building site aswell and i reckon the job i was doing was just as hard
oh and the “uneducated” part of the uneducated tradie comment was not meant in offence, i was saying that that is the stereotype which other people use in relation to tradies, i wasn’t saying that that is what i think, quite the opposite. Surely if you read my comments you would have seen that i was trying to stand up for tradies with my comments, not have a go at them. I say again, i said uneducated purely as that is the stereotype and i was having a go at other people for using that stereotype and i was saying that i dont believe it for one second and i hate it when other people think it
geez i was trying to stand up for people like you and instead you attack me! lol
Is cool Richo and all I did was look at two words “UNEDUCATED TRADIE”. Sorry for any hassle mate!
ADDENDUM TO “BIGGEST LOSER COMMENT”…why would I watch as Iam most certainly not a smidgeon of fat on me – but I have to sort through the quagmire of them in my capacity as a builder. There everywhere! 2,789,000wide and 16,458,032 deep and still they march forward.
NM,
yep there have been plenty of “over weight” people who have come knocking on my door for a job.
the reality of it is they are not only a danger to themselves on a building site but also to others.
also they are also unable to do the physical tasks asked of them.
i wonder how “over weight” are you referring too? I’m not anywhere near “biggest loser” sized overweight, but at 103kg i’m not exactly an athlete either however i’m confident that i can hold my own against anyone in any kind of physical job! At the end of the day its not really the physical attributes of a person that establishes how well they will do the job, its the mental attitude. Theres plenty of skinny pretty boys out there who would be too affraid of breaking a finger nail
Gee Andrew you are tease. So your not 25 ? I thought you said your around Tonyns age!
Its like extracting teeth getting info from you.
So your taller than me?
oh and i’m around 5 foot 6 or something, so at 103kg = overweight, but thankfully not stupidly so, i should probably be at around 90kg
Hey Richo where are you in OZ?
Join a GYM and become a junkie like US disciplined people ….
Wheelnut could give you some tips on how he got his 8 pac! Lucky me ha!No Easter eggs for him when Im over there at Easter, but Im guessing he wont need gym for 6 days either..hahaha
richo,
fair comment,
i also believe its the mental ability of people which is a big factor in their physical ability and weight.
an active mind is as good as a decent work out in the gym
on the other hand im no big unit but as far as power to weight goes i score pretty damn good.
i still remember the day i out arm wrestled my dad who tips (or did tip) at over 100kgs
sorry but balancing on top plates is no place for 110kg guys. unloading trucks at 110kgs is different. one of the blokes that has approached me actually used to deliver hire equipment so he was used to a work out.
the thing is though once he got above 2 rungs on a ladder he realised how agile he wasnt.
ive also worked with big guys that play footy and claim “i can bench this” and “i can bench that” but huff and puff and groan trying to keep up with me on the end of a beam let alone trying to climb a ladder with it.
the thing is its all well and good to bench 150kgs or what ever but using it in a practical situation is another story.
ive also had a cabinet maker tell me of a time they had a hot shot footy player working with them with the i can bench this attitude but struggled to manouver a carcus through a living room and over furniture etc
for the record im just under 6ft and BM, i dont need a gym to keep me fit. my daily lifestyle ensures i dont put on weight
GEEPERS…Survival of the Fattest chat here!
Agree with you Andrew M. I can say I have had many when did karate for 4.5yrs huge come in and they all get tired and have no stamina. It is the ticker and I have heaps and with physical stuff when did it used to run rings around all. Most are like some on here…BM AND ANDREW M YOU KNOW WHO – THEY ARE FULL OF TALK AND HOPELESS ON THE WALK!
RICHO – mate is cool and sorry you took umbrage at me. But mate 103kgs and 5ft 6in makes you a tad overweight. Go for walks and you dont need to go to Gym! The new Holden coupe is hot as! I will call a spade a spade (unlike TP) and not support one car maker. Like I rate this coupe above Fords offerings, the i30 Hyundai diesel above Toyota equivalent, etc. I like the Falcons but think it may count a tad against them for headlights and tailights pretty much as last model! It will still sell well. Holden on the other hand….supercar mayhem as what next a 11litre 525kw motor?
hahaha.NM.
Sounds more like a I’m fitter than you blog!
Andrew wow you finally told me something I didn’t have to guess!
Gym does help more in keeping you focused than doing it by your self, plus its a great catch up on the gossip when you doing Cardio. I know what your saying about weight lifting Andrew but that depends on how many reps they do…better to do smaller weights and more reps than large weights and less reps.
Mind you saying that Im one of the strongest females at GYM,no Im not built like Arny but have been doing GYM for 20 years. I can leg press 200 kilos so I don’t think Wheelnut will be leg wrestling me ,or will he? hahaha
Muscle weighs 4 times as much as fat and no Im not telling you what I weigh……
^^^^^^^^^^^
162kg????????
doesnt matter what you say, the scales are just marketing hype (just ask TP about that when you tell him something he doesnt want to hear) ha ha ha
Looks great! Big pat on the back by HOLDEN!
Love the recaro seats and the new rear lights, side exhausht pipes and the new speedometer
Vey impresed Holden!
^^^^Meant Very Impresed!
